In terms of art direction, Sanctuary feels like the world of the people living in it. The development team wanted to make Diablo IV feel like a painting.

All five unique zones are heavily inspired by vastly different concept art.

Zone transitions will make sense from a realistic point of view, e.g. ice-melting waterfalls between the snowy Fractured Peaks and the swampy Hawezar.

Dungeons within those zones will fit the artistic theme of their zone.

Monsters

Monster families are an essential part of Diablo IV. They have unique abilities and their family members synergize with each other.

These families also adapt to their surroundings, e.g. the snowy goatmen of Fractured Peaks.

A new monster family named the Nengari are twisted amalgamations of both human and snake body parts.

A small but significant detail: You can pet the dogs in Diablo IV!

Exploration

The pacing of gameplay is very different throughout the game. Diablo IV has both short and longer, narrative-heavy side quests.

There will be a side quest that leads you into a dungeon under the chapel of the By Three They Come cinematic!

An important design detail was to balance dungeon size based on both player enjoyment and the build-up of atmosphere.

Discovery

Loading screens will not be a thing in Diablo IV's open world - exploration should be seamless.

The overworld is obviously made to be discovered with lots of things to do like World Bosses, Strongholds, and much more.

As we already know, Altars of Lilith are hidden throughout the regions and will provide permanent stat boosts to your characters.
