Blizzard has recently revealed a massive amount of new information about what to expect in Patch 2.0 of Diablo 4 with the release of the Vessel of Hatred expansion - however, one new Mythic Unique item brings along with it some interesting implications!
Diablo 4 Patch 2.0 PTR Notes All 4 New Mythic Uniques
The new Mythic Unique Helmet,
Herdeiro da Perdição
, has a fascinating special effect: it grants a large damage bonus while active, and when Enemies are slain, you may
steal
the very same buff from
another player
, adding it to your own for a time. While this effect is very thematic for Diablo as a whole, the Inherent Affix
+200% Damage to Angels and Demons
tied to the helmet tells an interesting story of its own.
Ever since the finale of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, we haven't seen nor heard of any Angels save Inarius. Based on the definition of "perdition," the name of this helmet literally reads as "Heir of Hell" or "Heir of Damnation". The flavor text also warns people not to be deceived by those who wear the trappings of the benevolent or well-intentioned, as their intentions will be made known by their actions.
This helmet more than anything serves as a
warning
for things to come. Players will indeed be fighting Angels in the future in some capacity based on the Inherent Affix the helmet provides, but the question at that point becomes
why?
What Does This Mean For Sanctuary?
Based on available information, there are currently two standing theories, the first of which is much more probable:
After the death of Inarius at the hands of Lilith, the essence of the father of Sanctuary should manifest as an entirely new Angel due to the resonance of the Crystal Arch within Heaven. But what if it
didn't?
The Crystal Arch itself seems to display some will of its own, and the Angels could just as well simply choose
not to perform the Lightsong ritual
, thus once again denying Inarius from returning to Heaven in any form at all. Well at that point, Inarius would have to go somewhere...
If this has come to pass, then a certain Lord of Hatred and his minions would be thrilled to get their claws on the forsaken Angel once again. Based on the overt symbolism of Lilith ripping the wings from Inarius' back and the timely return of the Father's Judgement Armor sets with an all-new Father's Blasphemy Mount Bundle, it is safe to assume the Blessed Father is blessed no more. If this is the case, we may soon be fighting Hell corrupted Angels, and former attendants or adherents to the Cathedral of Light. These Angels would likely be none other than the renegades slain by Lilith, who in ages past abandoned the Eternal Conflict. If Inarius was denied the chance to reform his essence atop the Crystal Arch, this could have just as easily been extended to those who chose to follow him.
The intriguing flavor text for the Father's Blasphemy Mount Bundle.
The second theory is
much
less likely to happen, but is undeniably interesting nonetheless:
Speculating highly based on previous lore, it could be that while the Diamond Gates of Heaven are closed, they may not be for much longer. The Aspects of Wisdom and Justice are missing from the Angiris Council, no longer maintaining order in the High Heavens. With the increasing instability of Imperius throughout Diablo III, it is quite possible that the events throughout the previous game and thereafter have finally driven the Archangel of Valor to become the Archangel of Wrath. There is the distinct possibility that Imperius has seized control of the High Heavens and wishes to wage war on Humanity itself, breaking the agreement set long ago at the end of the Sin War.
Only time will tell, but one thing is certain - the
Herdeiro da Perdição
is truly a portent of dark times. What would you like to see happen with the Angels next in the Diablo universe? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
