We're not horsing around about mount collection - we've previously reported on
a mysterious mount that dropped from a Stronghold zone event
, and after hearing more rumors about mounts and mount cosmetics dropping in the Diablo IV Early Access Beta we were spurred to action! We've rounded up as much detail as we could find about mounts, bardings, and trophies - read on so you're not stuck in the night-mare situation of walking through Sanctuary when Diablo IV launches!
Mount Drops in Diablo IV Open Access Beta
You won't need an ex-horse-cist for these mounts - even if some of them look a bit demonic!
Wowhead user beanman12345 wrote in a comment that they received a Decaying Steed from a random Treasure Goblin, and user un1ty was able to provide a screenshot of the mount:

Unfortunately we don't have an image for this mount skin, but Wowhead user pallybeb also mentioned in a comment that clearing a dungeon northeast of Kyovashad rewarded them with a skin called Reins of the Fallen Star. We were unable to obtain this drop ourselves to verify, so it's likely exceedingly rare - if anyone is able to find this mount skin, let us know in the comments below!
Barding Drops in Diablo IV Open Access Beta
Don't you guys have horse armor? You'll certainly want it after seeing some of these gorgeous bardings - and don't worry, unlike horse armor of lore, these aren't microtransactions!
Wowhead user un1ty not only provided a lovely screenshot of the Decaying Steed, they also provided a screenshot of the Brigandine Barding:
Lilliretta on the r/Diablo4 subreddit was able to boast this barding drop from a Whispering Chest - take a loot at what seems to be holy icons hanging off the tack!
Another user claimed to have found the Barding of Mount Arreat during the Nostrava Stronghold - and Youtuber Mattjestic Multigaming found the same barding from a Treasure Goblin!
Trophy Drops in the Diablo IV Open Beta
While trophies seemed to be the scarcest drop type in the Early Access Beta, at least one was found by reddit users kjersgaard and madroxide86. The Shield of Mount Arreat is a cool shield that you can hang off the side of your mount's saddle!
How to Find Mounts, Bardings and Trophies in Open Access Beta
Keep in mind, players won't be able to use any of these mounts or accessories during Open Beta Weekend - unfortunately, the quest that unlocks the Stables and Mounts is further in the campaign and will only be available on Diablo IV's launch. That being said - learning some of the more lucrative routes and spawn locations will give you another horse in the race when Diablo IV releases!
The general consensus seems to be that high-end content such as dungeons, Strongholds, zone events, and Treasure Goblins are the way to go when specifically farming for mounts and mount accessories. Youtuber Mattjestic Multigaming created a great guide on how to maximize your spawns, gaining both Legendary drops and Mount drops alike - with maybe a visit from the Butcher as well!
