We are deeply saddened to report that Jarod "NWBZPWNR" Nandin, aka The South Park Guy cosplayer from BlizzCon 2013, has passed away after contracting Covid-19. Nandin reported his worsening condition on
Facebook
and
Twitter
on December 18th, tested positive just a few days later, and passed soon thereafter. Despite this diagnosis, he
made jokes
, remaining upbeat and positive, as he was always known to be.
Update
: Shortly before his diagnosis, Jarod's good friend Jason Lee went through Cameo to arrange for actor John de Lancie (known for his role as Q on Star Trek) to send
a message of well wishes
. Jason also shared with us
Jarod's response
to the video.
In addition to his sense of humor, Jarod was an avid World of Warcraft fan who took pride in giving others the courage to cosplay, having shaved his own head half a dozen times to portray the
South Park reference
at various conventions. In an
interview with LA Weekly
, he spoke on inclusivity and the power of cosplay to bring people together. He was an
avid World of Warcraft fan
who spoke about the positive impact of gaming in Blizzard's
Looking for Group documentary
. A
memorial fund
has also been setup on GoFundMe, for any interested in donating.
Our condolences go out to Jarod's friends and family, as well as the millions of South Park, World of Warcraft, and cosplay fans who knew him. In his memory, we ask everyone to be mindful of safety during these troubling times, please remember to wear a mask, and take all possible precautions. More information can be found on the
CDC website
, as well as other local resources.
