Two new entries in the WoW Scenescript database file point to a new game mode being added in Patch 10.2.5. The entries are labeled as 'Vampire Survivors' which is an award-winning indie roguelike reverse bullet hell video game developed by Luca Galante, also known as poncle.
Scenescript Database Entries
The Scenescript.db is commonly used for various minigames and cutscenes within WoW. The new entries are as follows:
10.2.5 - Vampire Survivors Mode - Game Mode - Client Scene (OJF)
10.2.5 - Vampire Survivor Mode - Data - Creatures
Unfortunately information is limited beyond the above entries, so we don't know exactly where this new mode will show up or how it will be implemented. However, we can speculate what this new minigame mode might look like by checking out Vampire Survivors itself, a game that I personally have spent countless hours thoroughly enjoying.
What is Vampire Survivors?
Vampire Survivors is an award winning 2022 couch co-op roguelike bullet hell video game where players control a variety of automatically attacking characters fighting against continuous waves of monsters to survive as long as possible and unlock characters, weapons, powerups for subsequent playthroughs.
Despite the game's name and key art, none of the monsters encountered in the game are vampires. Vampire Survivors features 2 DLCs: Legacy of the Moonspell & Tides of the Foscari.
Vampire Survivors is available on macOS and PC via Steam. The game is also free-to-play on Android and iOS with optional ad-supported rewards. You can also find Vampire Survivors on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Vampire Survivors in WoW
Now that we know a bit more about about the game, how might we expect a similar mode to be implemented into WoW?
Without a major announcement from Blizzard, it's highly unlikely this new game mode will be anything on the scale of say Torghast which had similar roguelike features. It's more likely that this will be a questline similar to the Peaceblooms vs. Ghouls mini-game found in Hillsbrad Foothills but that's purely speculative at this point.
While 'Vampire Survivors' likely applies to the name of the new game mode, we could look at this from a story standpoint. Narratively, the closest we've ever come to a vampire in-game is the Venthyr of Revendreth from the Shadowlands. The notorious survivors of that covenant after the overthrowing of the Jailer are Sire Denathrius, Remornia, and the Dreadlords all of whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
While this may all feel like a bit of a stretch, we did recently datamine
Dreadlord Armor Sets & Items
. Could we see these new armor sets as a reward from this new mini-game set in the gothic architecture of Gilneas as we seek to reclaim the Alliance kingdom? Ok ok, that might be piling a lot of speculation together, but it would make an exciting and fun continuation of that narrative thread. A boy can dream.
Have you played Vampire Survivors or interested in trying it out now? Where do you think we'll see this new mini-game? Do you think it could be related to the Dreadlords?
