Bone Necromancer Overview
The Bone Necromancer build deals heavy damage through the use of various Bone spells, mainly . The Bone Necromancer uses bone magic to charge up its power mainly through and then unleashes deadly s to destroy its enemies. The Bone Necromancer also makes use of to deliver on-demand crowd control and vulnerability upon its enemies, which further increases its damage, and to bring damage reduction.
The Bone Necromancer can regularly crit and one-shot elite monsters in World Tier 1-4.
The Bone Necromancer build sacrifices all but Bone Mages to benefit massively from these sacrifice bonuses. Essentially, the build relies on casting a few and to handle most enemies and with buffs rolling, if the situation fits it, you can unleash a devastating , which can stack many buffs to deal massive damage due to the synergies of the build. The Bone Necromancer works great in dungeons, boss fights, and any type of PvE content because it deals extremely high damage. Strengths and Weaknesses for Bone Necromancer
The Bone Necromancer Build can deliver high damage while also providing crowd control and on-demand vulnerability. The build's damage rotation requires a bit of practice. For advanced players, monitoring your buffs to optimize your damage may feel unnatural, but it is required for maximum performance. We can say that this build has a high skill ceiling, and it is also beginner-friendly as with the other Necromancer builds. However, in the hands of a strong player, the Bone Necromancer is a force to be reckoned with.

How to Play Bone Necromancer
Generally, the playstyle while leveling cycles between Bone Mage upkeep while utilizing corpses from and to deal damage. Corpse Explosion has a high base damage value compared to Bone Spear until the mid 30s. So, you may find it easier to just run Bone Mages and manage corpses.
This is a common rotation for the Bone Necromancer. The goal is to get your critical strike and damage buffs rolling, then apply vulnerability on top and unleash a devastating Bone Spear.
- This is best used as a frontal spell with a shotgun-like spread, mainly to sustain and Essence.
- If we have a corpse available to us, we use to apply for Critical Strike Chance and a multiplier of Critical Strike Damage! This coupled with allows for us to have a on-demand crowd control and source of Vulnerable!
- We use Bone Storm to apply 20% critical strike chance and 15% damage reduction. With we gain a near 100% uptime on these buffs and this is critical to get us to critical chance cap.
- We use this skill specifically to sustain Essence and deal massive physical damage to the enemy.
Necromancer Overview
Best Leveling Skills for Bone Necromancer in Diablo 4
Players earn Skill Points through two methods:
48 points for levels 2-49.
You start at level 1 with no native Skill Point, and you transition from Skill Points to Paragon Points at level 50.
10 points from Zone Renown.
By earning 900 Renown points with each of the 5 zones, you earn 2 Skill Points per zone for a total of 10 points. These points are account-wide and will be available to all alts when earned on one character.
Because of this, we can't say what character levels correspond to which skill points. Some players may choose to push Renown early by prioritizing high-Renown activities such as Strongholds, Dungeons, and Side Quests, while others may focus on the Campaign, which is great experience but rewards no Renown, or by grinding a small group of Dungeons (you only get Renown the first time you complete a dungeon).

Leveling Build for Bone Necromancer
As you level, please use the multiple talent trees as guidance. By level 35, you should have the entire core of the build available to you as we unlock , which scales our damage from 0 to 1.5x multiplier. So if you were hitting Bone Spear for 50,000 with 100 essence, you will be hitting it for 75,000!

We choose Bone Splinters due to the fact that they have nice base damage and help us generate Essence. We take , which gives this spell a shotgun-like effect for more sustain and uptime.
Points Recommendation
: 1 point and get the 1 modifier.
Bone Spear

Modifiers:
is a great ranged damage ability especially when synergized with skill points and legendries. It pierces through enemies, which makes it great for both single target and AoE scenarios. We take which makes it break into 3 shards and reflect back from walls. This mechanic makes narrow corridors an excellent environment for the Bone Necromancer because after piercing through the enemies, the Bone Spear will likely hit a wall and break into 3 shards, which bounce back and hit enemies from behind. In mid-endgame we switch to to increase our damage significantly.
Points Recommendation:
Invest 5 points into Bone Spear and spend 2 more points to unlock modifiers.
Hewed Flesh

Hewed flesh is a passive ability which helps us generate corpses. Passively generating corpses will be helpful as Bone Spear has a base 50% Lucky Hit Chance making the odds of you getting a corpse on the initial hit 6% per monster hit!
Points Recommendation:
Invest 3 points after level 25.
Unliving Energy

Unliving energy allows us to reach and adds 9% damage to !
Points Recommendation:
Invest 3 Points after all core abilities are unlocked.
Imperfectly Balanced

This passive skill adds 15% more damage to our Bone Spear while increasing its essence cost.
Points Recommendation:
Invest 3 points after all core abilities are unlocked. Also, please note: This skill is currently bugged as of 1.1.0 and has been reported to be fixed on August 8th, 2023 with the release of patch 1.1.1. 2 points were added to the skill to compensate.
Blood Mist

Modifiers:
Blood Mist is our main survival tool allowing us to get out of crowd control and any dangerous situations. We use to drop corpses down for . This is especially useful for dealing with the Suppressor monster effect, which is our biggest counter.
Points Recommendation:
1 point in early stage. Invest 2 more points for unlocking the modifiers after all core skills are unlocked.
Corpse Explosion

Modifiers:
We use Corpse explosion to maintain essence and to carry a significant portion of early damage. In the mid-late game, we use Corpse Explosion for our biggest combo, stacking 5 corpses for , a massive damage boost of 40%!
Points Recommendation:
Invest 1 point and unlock modifier for early-game AoE clear.
Raise Skeleton

We use Bone Mages to cast an extra full Bone Spear every 6th attack. This is nice passive damage.

This passive is used to help sustain a small amount of Essence, since we do not use as our main form of damage but rather as an amplifier.

This passive allows us to scale our damage by an addition 9%, when we consume a corpse using Corpse Explosion!

This is a great passive node for increasing our close range damage, and it provides damage reduction.

Invest 3 points after level 35.

This is a great passive node for further increasing our the Critical Strike Chance of Bone Skills.
Points Recommendation:
Invest 1 point after 25. Then invest max points after and are maxed.
Compound Fracture

This is a great passive node, which further synergizes our critical strikes and damage increase.
Points Recommendation:
Invest 1 or 2 points early game. Max points after mid game.
Evulsion

This is another passive node that further increases our damage when we apply vulnerability through .

Stand Alone

Since we sacrifice all of our skeletons, this is an obvious choice to maintain maximum defensives.
Points Recommendation:
Invest 1 Max points after all other points are allocated.
Memento Mori

This Passive further increases our Critical Strike Chance and damage against Vulnerable enemies because we will sacrifice Skeletal Skirmishers and Skeletal Frost Mages. This is a multiplicative to the sacrifice value.
Skrimisher: Critical Strike Chance +5% => 9.5%.
Frost Mages: Vulnerable Damage 15%x => 24%x.
Points Recommendation:
Invest 3 points after the cluster.
Ossified Essence

This is the main scaler of our damage and needs to be obtained as quickly as possible.

Best Book of the Dead Choices for Bone Necromancer
The Book of the Dead is a specialization tab where you can choose Skeletal Warrior, Skeletal Mage, and Golem types. Each has a third option that sacrifices a specific skeleton and disables summoning that Minion in favor of buffing the Necromancer. For increasing our power further, we will sacrifice our Skeletal Warriors and Skeletal Mages.
These are the Book of the Dead choices that will benefit your Bone Necromancer the most.
Skeletal Warrior - Skirmishers: Sacrifice - Increases your critical strike chance by 5%, but you can no longer raise Skeletal Warriors.
Skeletal Mages - Cold: Sacrifice - You deal 15% increased damage to Vulnerable enemies, but you can no longer raise Skeletal Mages.
Golem - Iron: Sacrifice - You deal an extra 40% Critical Strike Damage.

Although you will depend on random drops for most of your gear, you will have a variety of choices available to you. You can also make informed decisions about whether an apparent upgrade is better for you based on other properties. You may even find yourself in a position of getting a build-defining Legendary Aspect drop -- for a build different from your own. In those cases, it may be worth considering changing builds as you level, since a respec is cheap at this stage. As a rule of thumb, look for items that grant:

While you can't rely on getting a Legendary Aspect from a drop, you can find Legendaries other ways. The good news is that there are Legendary Aspects you can acquire early on from dungeons. Bone Spear Necromancer Best Leveling Gems
Gems fit into gear sockets and add bonuses depending on whether they are in Armor, Weapons, or Jewelry. Starting at level 20, you'll be able to combine Gems to upgrade them to higher quality and higher bonuses.
Gems come in various qualities from Chipped to Royal. While the gem properties do not change, the traits improve with higher quality. Therefore, while we list only one quality of gem here for listing purposes, you should always socket the highest level gem you can get and equip at your level.
Armor Gems
provides us with increased Maximum Life while also improving our Fortify due to the fact that it now scales with Maximum Life rather than Base Health. This is a solid choice to improve our survivability.
Weapon Gems
We apply Vulnerable frequently and are always looking for additional Critical Strike Damage, making the best option for our leveling build.
Jewelry Gems
reduces incoming Elemental Damage while reduces incoming Physical Damage, making both viable options while leveling. Leveling is much faster now than it was in the past and adding Gem sockets to leveling gear is typically considered a waste of resources, so don’t stress these choices too much before Level 50.
