PTR Patch 4.0.6 Notes Updated (1/28)
Just a quick batch of Friday night PTR patch notes updates! Notable changes include:
Tol Barad
Attacking forces will receive a 200% capture speed bonus when they control 2 keeps.
Defending forces will receive a 200% capture speed bonus when they control all 3 keeps.
Normal PvE helms (item level 359) no longer have a chance to drop from Nefarian or Cho'gall on Heroic difficulty. Instead, the Heroic PvE helm and shoulder pieces (item level 372) only require their associated Crown/Shoulders of the Forlorn tokens to purchase, and do not require players to obtain the normal helms or shoulders first.

Tol Barad Honor Reward Hotfixed Yet Again
Recently, Blizzard
hotfixed
the honor rewards for the
Tol Barad
battleground to grant attacking players a whopping 1800 Honor Points for a victory. This was intended to promote actually bothering to attack, as it appears that the battleground is so stacked on defense it was not worth the trouble. However, this led to an unintended and undesired result - players were instead win-trading and purposefully throwing battles on defense so that they would have a chance to switch places and reap that sweet 1800 Honor reward for attacking. As this was not Blizzard's intention at all, the Honor reward has been adjusted yet again for attacking players, now awarding a mere 360 Honor points (twice what is earned for a successful defense).
As you’re probably aware by now, an update was applied to Tol Barad shortly before the holidays which granted the attacking side 1800 Honor Points for a victory. While the goal with that change was to provide more incentive for the attack

News Roundup: Rated Battlegrounds Honor Change, Traveling Azeroth
Just two little brief tidbits of news today!
Blizzard changes Rated Battlegrounds to award full Honor to players already at the Conquest Points cap, and have also posted a helpful and informative guide on getting around in the World of Warcraft!
We've recently made a change in an effort to promote continued play in Rated Battlegrounds. Now when a player is at their weekly Conquest cap they will receive the full amount of Honor from kills, objective completions, victories and losses while in a Rated Battleground match. Those not at their cap will continue to earn Conquest normally, and will only earn Honor once they reach their weekly cap.
Whether you’re capped and others on your team aren’t, or you’re all capped and just want to keep playing, we hope this change will allow more flexibility for those participating in Rated Battlegrounds.

Ghostcrawler Discusses Upcoming Major Class Changes
Now that many players are level 85, Blizzard has been receiving a ton of feedback (both positive and negative) regarding their classes, specs and other balancing / playability concerns. They've taken a lot of these concerns, with their own review, and Ghostcrawler has just posted a very inclusive and informative post detailing developer impressions of the current state of the game and various aspects of it, projecting potential and possible changes we'll see in the near future. Definitely worth a read!
We have a lot of players at 85 now doing everything from Heroic dungeons to rated Battlegrounds, and the class design team is starting to prepare our list of items to investigate for our next patch.
Before you dive down into the meat below (not really a pleasant image, that), be advised that we’re still early in the preliminary stages. The patch isn’t coming out tomorrow. I wrote this before the end of the year and other things may have cropped up in the meantime. Just because your class or pet problem isn’t mentioned below doesn

Blizzard Launching "War Games": PvP Practice Matches
Blizzard is implementing a
War Game
system—a system broadly similar to the old Arena skirmish system.
Basically, with a simple text command, you can now start a "War Game" against another group in a battleground, or another arena team, the matches don't actually count for achievements or currency rewards, and you can only initiate them against other people on your realm—but it's a great way to test out new players in PvP, or hold grudge matches against old enemies.
The new system opens up with Arena Season 9!

An island off the coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, Tol Barad is a historic land now sought-after by the leaders of the Horde and the Alliance. Its strategic, isolated location makes it an ideal stronghold from which to conduct military strikes. Likely Cataclysm Release Date: December 7th!
Edit: The release date was right there all along, and we didn't see it! See

for the details!
While poking through the game files for the next patch, we found this little snippet of text!
"Arena battles and Rated Battlegrounds are only available during an active player versus player combat season. Season nine will begin on
December 14th
, so be prepared at that time to take your shot at glory!"
It's official: Season 9 starts on December 14th. Combine this with a blue post from Zarhym...
We are currently planning to end Arena Season 8 as early as October 12. At that point we will go through our normal process to determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards. This process should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for the Arena-specific titles and/or the Wrathful Gladiator’s Frostwyrm to refrain from transferring their characters to another realm or faction until after Arena Season 8 ends.
