Site Updates: Wowhead News Alerts for Discord, Layout Improvements

The Wowhead team has two site updates to share today: a
Wowhead News Webhook
to receive news alerts in Discord, as well as a revamped layout for fewer ads and some design improvements. For more site updates, check out
last month's post
which introduced the Favorites Feature and a reduced Premium price.
Wowhead News Webhook for Discord
It's a busy time in Azeroth with weekly new content, constant PTR updates, community discoveries, and other events. The Wowhead team is committed to bringing you around-the-clock detailed updates; we've set up a
Wowhead News Webhook for Discord
so you and your friends never miss any of the news. When Wowhead publishes front-page news, we can paste a link to it in your
Discord
channel.
Setting it up is easy, just head over to our
Wowhead News Webhook
page and just click one of the "Add" buttons on the page. You'll be sent to Discord to select your server and channel.

too; whether you want to ask a Wowhead Guide Writer a question or discuss a variety of topics like transmog, the PTR, or offer site feedback.
Site Layout Changes
We've made some changes to Wowhead's sidebar to allow us to permanently remove some advertising units from the site: two units from database pages, one unit from other areas like news and guides. This should in turn help pages load faster and reduce the risk of noisy ads that violate our Terms of Service. To maintain revenue and reduce the number of ads, we have had to make the sidebar ad "fixed" - always visible (essentially the sidebar does not scroll now). As a result, there was no longer room for large amounts of other sidebar content, so we've moved them to other places.
As part of this sidebar revamp, we took the opportunity to address a few other design issues on the site.
Today in Broken Isles
is now below the most recent news on the front page; previously it was quite far down on the page and many users did not realize we displayed Mythic+ Affixes or World Bosses.

in Quick Facts is now more compact; useful if you're tracking many characters on the site.
For our Guide Table of Contents, we've removed the visually-busy sidebar and instead replaced that with a Table of Contents that is always visible as you scroll down. You can hide the ToC at any time by clicking on the red X.
