News Round Up: Season 10 Starts, Boss Strategies, and More
The first real attempts on hardmodes are happening today; so far, since the EU servers still can't complete, it's a pretty intense race between
Blood Legion
,
Premonition
, and
Vodka
. Heroic
Shannox
has been killed by a lot of guilds (20+ so far), but few others have killed another boss yet. We'll have to see what the EU guilds have in store for us later.

Although there was a lot of coverage to be had through out the past two months, we've rounded up most of it into a quick one page guide so you can know exactly what to do when the patch goes live on the servers.
As for the patch itself, it's going to be today after the servers come up. It's weird; most players don't "feel" like it's a patch, this process has been a little different than

Post
The festivities have begun as the citizens of Azeroth and Outland celebrate the hottest of seasons by playing with fire all across these worlds! You'll want to take part no matter your experience or character level, as this is one of the most rewarding holiday events of the year. It's also one of the most PvP-heavy events, so strap into your gladiator gear and get ready to desecrate or defend the Midsummer bonfires.
As with most holidays you'll want to stop by a capital city to begin the event’s main quests, including the ever-fun torch tossing challenges. While in each of the capital cities, be on the lookout for enemy players; stealing the flames from capital city bonfires is a necessary step in getting everything out of this once-a-year event.
Ultimately you'll collect Burning Blossoms through your participation in these events, a special holiday currency you’ll then spend to purchase various items and pets available from the Midsummer suppliers and m

Patch 4.2: New PvP Ground Mounts
We've posted about the ground mounts before, but Blizzard did an official preview and it's nice to see them in their actual environments. They look great and hopefully it's a step forward for mount design. Back in April, Ghostcrawler said it was hard to come up with new mount designs during their BlizzCast--we think this proves you don't have to do anything extremely fancy or inventive, sometimes adding more textures and details can be enough to create awesome new mount rewards!
In order to best accommodate players under the unique play style of Rated Battlegrounds, we’ll be offering all-new PvP ground mounts -- the
Horn des boshaften Kriegswolfs
(Horde) or
Zügel des boshaften Schlachtrosses
(Alliance) -- in a unique way. If you want to sit your knickers on these sweet new rides come patch 4.2, Rage of the Firelands, you must earn achievements for winning either 75, 150, or 300 Rated Battlegrounds. One account-bound mount will be awarded for each of these achievements earned, so if you win 300 Rated Battlegrounds with a character, you’ll be afforded the opportunity to give that character and two of your alts each a wolf or steed. Since these mounts are tied to

Blizzard has just posted a small update to the 4.2 PTR Patch Notes, adding a few class changes and some seemingly major changes to

Patch 4.2: Ruthless Gladiator Season 10 PvP Sets Preview
With Season 10
recently announced
as coming at the end of this month, we figured this was a great time to break the season 10 PvP sets out and show you how you'll look if you're a particularly
ruthless
gladiator yourself. (In case you forgot, we previewed the weapons that go with these colorful sets back in March and you can see them
over here
.)
To help showcase the armor sets, we've put together a video showing each variation and we've also taken screenshots of each set along with links to our modelviewer. If you choose the modelviewer, make sure to view them in Java for higher particle effects--you can also set your own gender and race preview there so you aren't stuck at looking at either a female Blood Elf or a male Human!
Honestly, we think you're in for a bit of a surprise. While PvP sets aren't known for their beauty, some of these sets look pretty awesome and sometimes they look even better than their tier 12 counterparts.

PvP Season 9 Ending as early as June 21st, Patch 4.2 Soon After
Blizzard just posted the speculative end date to season 9 for PvP as soon as June 21st. While this isn't set in stone, it points to patch 4.2 and season 10 within a week after this. As such, our bets are on the last week of June or possibly the first week of July for 4.2, but we'll see. It's most likely that Firelands will have some sort of gated content if this release is so soon as there has been no heroic testing thus far and no indication that such encounters will be doable on live. Several fights still have major bugs, too, even on normal 25-man. As someone who has tested every encounter, I can say that it doesn't feel as completed as it usually does.
At any rate, hopefully Firelands' gating is not one as painful as Sunwell's was, if it indeed has one.
Arena and Rated Battleground Season 9 is scheduled to end as early as June 21. At that point we will determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards, a process that should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for Arena titles and/or the Vicious Gladiator’s Twilight Drake to refrain from transferring their characters to anothe

Arena Passes for 2011 Now Open
It's that time of the year again--Blizzard has opened registration for the arena tournament realms where players compete for a chance to win exclusive prizes, including
Murkimus' kleiner Speer
and the elusive Vanquisher title. The title is worth getting for the sheer number of questions you'll get, we promise; for some reason, people always seem to think it's a bug with Twilight Vanquisher not displaying properly.
So are you competing this year seriously? Are you facerolling for that pet you've always wanted (he is pretty cute)? Or maybe you've already conquered past years and are passing this time? Let us know in the comments!
Oh and if you're just interested in the pet, it's 50 rated games to qualify by the end of the online qualifier.
Registration for the 2011 World of Warcraft
Arena Pass
is now open. Remember, this year all participants in the Arena Pass have a chance to earn the exclusive Armored Murloc pet as well as the exclusive "Vanquisher" title, so get your team together and be ready for fierce competition.

Conquest Changes and Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (April 26th)
Apparently conquest earned for rated PvP was changed to a flat amount regardless of team rating this patch. This was not included in the patch notes, but it's a fairly interesting change--one that's already generating a fair amount of negative feedback on Blizzard's official forums. They're looking into the amounts to see if they need to be changed; right now it's 135 conquest points for winning an arena match and 335 for a rated battleground.
Of course, that's if you can even login. Patch days generally mean hotfixes and today is no exception, but at least
Zul'Aman
and
Zul'Gurub
are finally accessible if you're patient enough. There are no estimated deployment times for some of these hotfixes, however, Blizzard says sometime this morning they should be implemented for all servers.
Conquest Earned Changed to Flat Rating
In patch 4.1 the amount of Conquest earned for both Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds has been changed to a flat amount regardless of team rating, to 135 and 335 respectively. This change should of course have been in the patch 4.1 notes, but due to a fairly straight forward error, was not included.

Blizzard's Second Q+A Answered, UI Selected for Next Topic
Blizzard just posted their next set of answers to the

Of course, there will be more of these sessions coming up in the near future. The topic of user interfaces is slated to be tackled next; starting at 4PM PDT today, Blizzard will field questions from NA players while

Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (March 1)
Just two little hotfixes today. Nobody liked that Tol Barad escort, anyway. In fact, I don't think anyone likes any escort quest.
PvP
Flag carriers in rated Battlegrounds now take 25% more damage from all magical and physical attacks. The 25% additional damage from carrying the flag stacks with the Focus and Brutal Assault debuffs. Flag carriers in normal Battlegrounds are not affected by this change.

Tol Barad Peninsula
The quest "
