This is the final boss of BRD. Relatively hard for a group his level, however if your group is cooperative and alert you should be able to take him down fairly easily.

Fair warning would to be to clear all adds in the room. They will aggro if you do not kill them. This includes the adds on the top of stairways as well.

The princess, (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=8929) who stands right beside him, is immune to sap and sheep.

Solo'd as a 70 feral druid in tank gear. Popped regeneration during fight otherwise just wear him down. Easy 'nuff...

Unforuneatly no-one around this instances level even knows who he is they think that flamelash is te last boss and i say "no dagran is" good luck finding a group for him
TIP: best if the rogues stealth and kill the flamekeepers and light torches so the group can get through
TIP 2: HIGH LEVEL ROGUES! or feral druids

And princess becomes friendly during the fight if you have quest and she runs back to throne and stands there. p.s. YOU CAN SIT ON HIS THRONE!! i think its cool. dont know about you.

Soloed as a 70 combat sword rogue...very easy fight. Popped blade flurry and evasion right away, took out the princess fairly quickly and moved on to the Emperor. Never got below half health. I also had deadly poison on my blades.

rogue. tried to solo him at 63, didn't even get to him, magmus(the giant before him) owned my @ss. then tried again at 65, took princess out, vanish and then killed him after about 5~6 tries. should be an easy fight once i ding 66 and get cloak of shadow/better gears.

He is changed from lvl 59 to 56 in 2.3. Very suprised.

A note on Princess Moira Bronzebeard: I can verify that she can't be shackled, Mind Controlled, feared or seduced. We just tanked her, though there is probably a better way using a hunter to kite or possibly netting her.

Just know that she will try to heal Emperor Thaurissan, so make sure your strategy handles this point.

If you have the princess quest (so you have to keep her alive), you don't generally have to worry much. I've downed the emperor several times... as long as you have a good tank/healer, you can leave the princess to hit on the tank and it's not a big deal.

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T USE AOE IF YOU NEED TO SAVE THE PRINCESS!

Also, be sure to clear EVERYTHING in the room before the emperor. Easy enough, mage AoE is helpful here... and if you pull correctly, you can get the elites seperate from the other mobs.

The Emperor yells things out as you're clearing the room. Finally when the room is clear he will yell:

"Thank you for clearing out those foolish senators. Now prepare to meet your doom at the hands of Ragnaros' most powerful servant."

Then you know it's safe to pull with no adds.

Do you have a tech to solo this guy as a frost mage ? I tried to burst him down without success because of his Avatar of Flame ability which he casts very often. I tried to kit him but it's very long and i run oom, and the princess casts a hot on him (i steal it but just when he's not in avatar form). I got 3 s2 pieces and the s2 staff but I couldn't manage to kill him.

little tough for a 70 ice mage who just hit 70 but with some real gear a mage should be able to solo him and princess.

soloed as 65lvl subtilety-rogue.
the one difficult was the emperor himself and "the seven". I died while trying to kill 'em, and decided to swim in lava instead of fighting.
that worked. the golem giant before emperor and packs in his room are easy. just sap elite mobs and kill non-elite. they are 55-56 lvl.

I killed emperor on the 2nd attempt.
I'm not sure if it is possible to do by any other class on this level, but for rogue its a challenge , but not impossible one.
So. I started with premeditation+garrote, ripture, evasion. got some combo points by dodging his attacks. then used evasion again, shadow dance, premeditation+garrot , etc. had to drink 1 healing potion. Anyway, I still got only 200 hp when Emperor died, and cheating death helped a lot :)

I could NOT solo him as a L73 fire mage, fairly poorly geared. The 10 second spell immunity is a crusher. I'll be back but not alone or not L73...

As an 80 hunter I was able to kill the boss without killing anything else in the room and then aoe down the adds with no problems, I had about 6k health left when I was done. So if you're doing this and you're confident in your aoe, hit the boss hard so he dies, you get the achievement and then see what you can get your dps up to by aoe'ing the rest of the room. It's pretty fun, pointless, but fun.

I even had troubles with this as an 80 frost mage, because I was trying not to kill the Princess for the quest. For casters, it all depends on whether or not he uses the anti-magic shield. So I dualspecced to arcane and popped Arcane Power and Icy Veins. I won, because he never had time to put up the shield.

So for casters trying to solo it, the key is to kill him before he can pop up his shield.

Anyways, if you want a way to get to him fast (just to get the achievement kill or for a quest)

Shortcut to the Emperor

For this method you WILL need the Shadowforge Key. In addition, a high amount of fire absorption, a health potion, bandages, and maybe a shield/damage reduction spell would help, depending on your level. As a mage, I just used ice bubble/fire ward.

1) Enter the instance and take a left. Unlock the door.
2) Walk down the hall and unlock the door at the end. You'll be in a long hallway
3) Go right and pass through the gate. Continue along until you reach Lord Incendius. Kill him or not, then put on your shields and fire protection and jump off the west side of the platform that Incendius is on into the lava.
4) Head north and a bit east, stopping wherever there's a platform to heal the lava damage. Watch out, because there are fire elementals in the lava that will attack you.
5) Head to the Molten Core bridge and look for a ramp on the western end of it. Climb up, go to the hallway to the west, and take a right.

Now, you've skipped almost all of Blackrock Depths. All that's left is the torch room and Magmus, then you're at the boss room.

Ridiculously easy solo as a 74 shadow priest. Probably could have done it at 70 or even earlier.

Pop Shadowfiend on the princess; this will prevent her from getting heals off. PW:S and dot up and Mind Flay the emperor until he's dead. Should take 30 seconds or less. Turn in your quest and enjoy.

Oh, and there's no way to skip Magmus.

Other hints: Spam Holy Nova in the Lyceum if you pull the mobs there. They go down very fast. They also respawn very fast. Watch your mana while you're in this room.

Bronzebeard, Wildhammers and Frostborn Dwarfes = Alliance
Dark Iron = Before - Ragnaros, Now - Alliance
Iron = Loken

Leaders:

Bronzebeard = Representative Muradin
Wildhammer = Representative Falstad
Frostborn = King Yorg Stormheart
Dark Iron = Representative Moira
Iron = Loken

Capital City

Bronzebeard = Ironforge (Dun Morogh)
Wildhammer = Some in Aerie Peak (The Hinterlands) and Some in Ironforge
Frostborn = Frosthold (Storm Peaks)
Dark Iron = Before - Shadowforge City (Blackrock Mountain - Searing Gorge) - Now - Ironforge

Brought him down to 50% hp fairly easily, but at that point the Princess started spamming heals on him. Only managed to kill him when she went oom.

Otherwise a fairly simple fight.

If, using the Random Dungeon tool, you were queued for Upper City, just killed him, and got no Random Dungeon completion message, then you likely killed High Interrogator Gerstahn before him.
This makes the random dungeon tool bug out and not reward any sachet at all.

Most of the times, you can tell whether you are queued for Prison or Upper City by looking at the level range of your group. Once Prison is green to you and Upper City yellow, you are likely queued for Upper City.

In 4.0.3a his aggro quote changed from "Come to the aid of the Throne!" to "I will crush you into little tiny pieces!". In addition he won't aggro the remaining adds anymore.

The most badass character in the game. He rules a friggin empire of fire, he is a dwarf and he has a booming name. He has a lot of experienced lieutenants who command thousands of skilled soldiers, engineers and golems. His capital isn't ruined (heck, it isn't even slightly damaged), his squads patrol the place, he has dozens of captured people in his prison, he has a bar with ETC, mindf**king mechanism for gaining access to his chamber and unique Dark Iron anvil and forge. He isn't sieged by Blackrock orcs from nearby BRS. I hardly notice his slavery to Ragnaros.

And ye, he also has a lady. Under his full control.

If he wasn't killable, I'd say he's the most successful NPC in the game.

So, I was farming Ironfoe for a long time on my warrior for RP purposes (Yes, I'm on an RP server.)
After about 50 times, I finally gave up. About a year later, I was on my friend's account running it to get him the achievement...

Thanks for posting about the doors... There are SO MANY dwarves in the Lyceum that I'd have probably been lost for awhile. You can kill the groups easily as they all have ~730 health each but once I was barely even a portion done near one of the halls, the groups respawned. None are lootable except for the more elite mobs / fire elementals in the room it seems like.

Only the Torchbearers drop torches - they were for me, hiding closely to columns and not at the center or with any groups. Once you get two torches, light each torch left and right of the doors and they'll open.

Now for the Emperor's room, I happened to clear out the room first (got the Senator removal line so knew that was safe) before I fought the couple. Killed Princess first then the Emperor - he didn't seem to do anything particularly nasty to me at 67 - just has a lot of HP (near 70,000). Barely lived by using my regular CDs and recovery pots but very doable. I presume as others said, a lv 70 would make easy work of him.

Now that's some feeling of accomplishment! To finally kill the Emperor and see the achievement for BRD!

After a quite successfull solo-run with my monk (lvl 55) i failed to kill the emperor. he delivers an enormous punch. I was too shocked to check my Battlelog, but it was about 3k (20% leather migation). I had no chance to bring guard up, or even shuffle.

Besides that, he has his 5 sek stun. Without guard active and nearly full hp, he can take you down. A intersting difficult fight. Maybe i come back later for him, with BC Gear.

And yes, for a dwarf, he is indeed a pretty impressing charackter. And shadowforge city... damn, one hell of a city it is.

I did not encounter the princess when trying to slay dagran. Instead a high priestess with somewhat 30k hp stand next to the boss. I guess it's because the quest royal rescue is obsolete. Funny that in game dungeon guide still list the existence of the princess and her abilities.

Post stat-squish this guy hits like a freight train. Ran a LFG group and the level 55 warrior tank in heirloom gear, while I was a 60 paladin healer, yeah there is no way you're keeping a lower-level tank alive.

Thaurissian will happily hit for 1.5k every 1.5s or so, combined with his Avatar of Flame ability dishing out an extra 300-400 per hit, finally combined with his Ironfoe meaning he can hit four times with an extra 10% crit on each hit? Did I mention he has a 5 second ranged stun on no CD with no diminshing returns that also does damage?

In short the tank pulled, took an Ironfoe hit right away and was left on 1k hp. I couldn't get a flash heal out before he took the next hit.

With very good 60 tank gear I could solo him (once respecced) thanks to not having to suffer his stuns. Otherwise quite a hard boss for LFG groups that range from level 51-60.

If you have to farm this guy you can exit BRD quickly by jumping into molten core and then leaving molten core, it will take you back to the molten span instantly.

Another guy who can be a real test of RNG - started farming again for Ironfoe on my paladin a few days ago. So far clocked in ~ 40 kills, grabbed his Family Jewels twice, and 3 black diamonds but no mace yet.

I hope Blizzard never nerfs this NPC. The final boss of vanilla's megadungeon should stay as brutal and epic as intended! Will give you a nice challenge as a healer that isn't insurmountable as long as you don't fall asleep when the tank takes high burst damage.

If you're farming BRD on live/retail and you're looking for a clear order:

Hurley Blackbreath (Go to the storeroom to your left and attack the three Thunderbrew Lager Kegs. This summons Hurley Blackbreath.)
Ribbly Screwspigot (Talk to Ribbly Screwspigot. Click on the only dialog option. Kill him and his goons.)
Phalanx (Buy 6 Dark Iron Ale Mugs from Plugger Spazzring. Turn them in to Private Rocknot. He will then move towards the kegs and break them open. This starts a riot and turns Phalanx hostile. Kill Phalanx.
Plugger Spazzring (after Phalanx)

(Before heading into the Lyceum, take the Molten Bridge to the right if you're a completionist and you're doing )
