Also, NPC's with 2 marked spawn points, such as the Great Turtle Furyshell, Monstrous Spineclaw, Bufo, Python etc. are known to spawn in multiple areas between or around those two points. So the co-ordinates I've listed are more of a point of reference than a place to stationary camp.

I'd highly recommend farming Ancient Spineclaws at (20, 33) if you want to try to make the Monstrous Spineclaw spawn. This spot has about 6 ancient ones all within arms reach as opposed to killing them along the coast where there are sharks that will aggro, as well as a lot more distance between each ancient spineclaw.

It's 100% related to killing Spineclaws, it has a chance of spawning instead of them.

Farmed them for a few hours and eventually it spawned instead of 1 of them underwater.

I farmed at the north just south of the elementals as stated above, had 7 crabs pulled at a time

Edit: I have no clue why I wrote bulls, probably because I was farming them at the time I wrote this, anyway fixed.

This is going to prove to be one of the harder rares to actually farm. Near as I can tell, a Monstrous Spineclaw has a chance to spawn in place of any Ancient Spineclaw that's been killed anywhere on the Island. There is almost always some ppl killing them by both the Horde and Alliance camps, so it could spawn in either of those locations, or anywhere else that someone just randomly killed an Ancient. Your chances are improved by farming a certain location, but there are still a few more variables then the other more static rare spawns.

I spent about 3-4 hours farming over 100 Spineclaws today, near the horde base, and never got a rare to spawn.

It is highly discouraging to kill that many and see half a dozen rare snakes spawn in the same time.

You can pull the ancient spineclaws to the individual faction camps and get help from the sentry guards (make sure it's your faction camp, or you'll end up a bloodied pulp). The crabs claw flurry will aggro the guards and speed up the process slightly.

Just to reiterate, there are 5 areas along the coast of the timeless isle that these guys spawn. The spawn rate is affected by killing the Ancient Spineclaws, but if you are going to farm these guys, keep in mind that they do spawn in 5 different areas. So killing a bunch in one area may not necessarily spawn the rare in your location.
I have added a screenshot to show that it is also possible for two of these guys to spawn in the same area at the same time, as each area has a different number of spineclaw spawn spots.

IMHO, this rare would benefit from sharing its pet drop with the Ancient Spineclaws. I don't care if the Ancients have only a chance equivalent to 10% of what the rare's chance is, but having the pet available on those mobs will mean every kill has a chance of ending your suffering, which is very motivating, as well as increasing the number of people killing the mobs, which naturally leads to an increase in the number of Monstrous Spineclaw spawns.

I wish these guys didn't have SUCH far spread out spawn points. By the time i'm done killing something on 1 side of the island, the Monstrous Spineclaw spawns well on the opposite side & of course on Area 52 US, goes down within seconds. I don't even have time to take 5 steps before it's massacred. This is the last pet I need for the achieve too. I don't even know how i'll even begin to farm this mob.

Oh how I wish these guys only spawned near the Horde flight path.

For you Bigger Baggers out there...

To clarify, the Monstrous Spineclaw spawn is clearly tied ONLY to killing Ancient Spineclaws. That means that even if people are killing Spineclaws elsewhere, you're still better off camping north of the horde flight path where there are 7 crab spawns in easy reach (don't forget the one near where you can summon Archierius of Flame/Three Breeze Terrace, east of the 6 clumped spawns).

My point is that your chance to spawn one near you and tag it in time is not changed by other people farming crabs elsewhere (it's just a bummer if an extra one spawns on the other side of the map and you can't get to it/don't know where it is). Every time a crab dies it has a chance to return as a Monstrous Spineclaw. There can be multiple Monstrous Spineclaws up at once.

After diligently camping this for over a week, I got mine after 16 kills (~80 stacks of Raw Crab Meat) and I felt lucky. On my high population server I would force a Monstrous Spineclaw spawn about once every 90 minutes, although the respawn timer was HIGHLY variable and I literally missed 4 kills from getting up for a glass of water. I would farm for 5 hours and see 2 spawns. Then 3 hours and see 2 spawns. Then 3 hours and 0 spawns.

Tips: Encourage everyone to loot him so that he despawns quickly (so you can reset npcscan more quickly after every kill once his body has disappeared). Note that Chelon is nearby and can be activated by you only once per day (like the purple crystal), so call out for someone to spawn him if you see his shell. You can farm Jademist Dancer pet while you wait, get 5 Condensed Jademist to avoid bloody coin farmers and 10 Scuttler's Shell.

Good luck getting your Spineclaw Crab, easily the most difficult item to obtain for your Bigger Bag achievement.

I hate this guy so much. I'm looking for him for a week now. I farm every night, tried all the tactics I could find, but nothing. One night I saw him 3 or 4 times, but no rare loot. I never saw him on the other nights. I tried, the allience fp, the horde fp, running around, I never see him around. So annoying.

Emerald Gander, Imperial Python, Ironfur Steelhorn, Great Turtle Furyshell and Monstrous Spineclaw are all spawned by killing the mobs of the same type. They can spawn in place of them in almost any spot they spawn. As far as I know there can be any amount of them up at any of the spawn points they just usually die pretty fast so normally only one or two.

So if you are looking for them just keep patrolling the spawn points killing any placeholder mob you see below and it will spawn. Spawns are random and probably just have set chance to replace a placeholder. Also USE NPCSCAN nothing helps more for rares anywhere!

Dear Bigger Baggers,

I just looted my 钳爪小螃蟹 from this extremely elusive and frustrating rare. This is my first post on WoWhead so bare with me. I am not writing this to exclaim in a excited though useless fashion that I got mine. Instead I would like to share my experiences, observations and tips with my fellow pet and achievement hunters and hopefully help end this horrible grind for you.

My first strategy was to kill 20 crabs a day (for the daily quest) and camp the spawns until I killed 20 and hopefully one would spawn now and again thereby making it feel less grindy. This net me about three rare crabs over the course of about a month. I would only recommend this method to anyone in the very early stages of 需要一个大背包 or if you absolutely want to avoid a grind.

As I became more desperate for the rare spawn and crab I begin to look for tips online and the most popular method as well as my second strategy was to camp the location just above the Horde flight path. While a valid and proven approach I felt it to be too tedious (as if committing crab genocide could be anything but). As I'm sure many of you have felt, killing crabs in the same spot for a couple hours and see not one spawn can get a bit frustrating. This got me thinking, well if every kill is theoretically a chance at a rare spawn than logically more kills means more/better chances at the rare and thereby the coveted pet. This thought process led me to my short lived third strategy.

My third approach was, simply put, kill 'em all! So I did. I circled the island and killed every last crab, went back to where I started and did it again. And I must say that it did work! Quite well actually! The problem was I was never the one killing the rare spawns. Of the three hours I did it this way I saw eight spawns and only actually got to kill one. Needless to say, this didn't sit well with me but I did get one thing from it and that was that indeed killing all the crabs made them spawn more quickly and with more spawns came an increase in the chances at a rare. I then took all of my experiences and knowledge of this rare and put it together in my final and, I think, an extremely effective method.

My final strategy involved killing all the crabs along the southern coast (about 24 crabs) from the Alliance flight path to the Croaking Hollow. Essentially I could kill all the crabs in this route in 8-10 minutes and make it back to the start roughly when the crabs I first killed began to spawn and would simply repeat for however long I could bare. The results were in about six hours of doing this circuit (broken up over a few nights) I saw more than 20 rares and killed all but one of them. Many of the rares that did spawn were back to back. In fact, when I got the pet it was the last rare in a chain of three near the Alliance flight path. I saw many spawn before my very eyes. The tools I used were some kind of waterwalking for speed ( and 天蓝水黾缰绳) and being fully buffed from the island (赤精之愿, 歌唱水晶 and 纪元之书) and 钳爪蟹壳 (which you should have plenty of) to keep monsters away while you travel.

This worked very well in my opinion and kept me sane as I was not just standing and staring at empty space while I waited. Sure the risk is that you may miss some spawns if you are just a little to slow or it spawns a little faster than expected but I feel the benefit far outweighs the risk.

TL;DR
The simplest way to put it is, to optimally farm this rare you must kill as many crabs as you can while still allowing yourself enough time to be within range of each spawn as it spawns.

For me this was the 24 crabs on the south coast, for you it may be less or it may be more. Heck, if you can kill all the crabs on the island and view each spawn as they come, do it! You'll get it really quick! Most can't do that however so here are my tips.

1) Pick a route!
- Select a route of crab killing that includes as many crabs as you can in an area that you can reach the starting point in about 8-10 minutes of starting the route.

2) Be strong, be swift!
- Gear, spec, glyph, and buff yourself so as to move fast from crab to crab and be able to kill them quick.

3) Don't waste time! The clock is ticking!
- Loot them! But don't waste any more time than that. (Sorry skinners!) Keep moving as the faster you go the less likely you are to miss a spawn.

4) Moderation!
- I don't recommend doing this all at once, an hour or two a night to preserve your sanity.

5) Don't give up!
- Keep at it! It is out there waiting to be looted! The moment you give up is the moment the crabs win!

DISCLAIMER: This method proved more effective for me and I stated my reasons though you need to keep in mind that as much as we can manipulate the system we will always be at the mercy of RNG. This method should increase the number of rare spawns you see but will NOT increase the chance of the pet dropping from each kill.

Monstrous spineclaw seems much harder to make spawn than the Imperial Viper... I've been doing continuous circuits from Old Pi'Jiu upto the area north of the Horde landing zone. This means i'm killing around 10 death adders and 10 ancient spineclaws each circuit.

In around 5 hours of doing this i've spawned the imperial viper at least 10 times (and got the pet) but haven't spawned monstrous spineclaw even once.

Finally got it aswell and here's my feedback

Heathmonn's strategy is very nice, even though it didn't work for me, but yet there's an addition to it.

- You can greatly improve your effectiveness if you have 波塞冬斯的缰绳
- Don't forget you can use your flying mount if you're far enough from the coast (dark waters)

Your route can be as follow : go from A to B, killing crabs using Poseidus, then go back to A using your flying mount to be there when the respawns occur.

Another addition that is very important, and noone around mentionned it.

I hardfarmed this pet, really hard. I farmed something like 4 days in a row, consecutively. When I wasn't awake farming the pet, I had the sound to maximum while sleeping so NPCScan could alert me if there was a spawn.

Something like 95% of spawns somehow occured at day. It's not the fact they only spawn at day, but there's a relationship between the number of people on the isle and the spawn rates.

Remember there are 5 rares that are based on "normal" elite versions.
- Cranes
- Snakes
- Crabs
- Yaks
- Turtles

Somehow, everyone figured out that killing turtles triggers the rare version to spawn. everyone also agreed with the rest of the monsters of this list.

But there's one thing that has been noticed for the Adders farm. The 帝王巨蟒 won't spawn just because you have killed enough of adders to trigger him to spawn.

In fact, all the rares that have a normal version seems to be linked. There might be a chance, when any normal version dies, that a rare version spawns. That would mean, if you want to make an Imperial Python spawn, you should rampage the whole isle, not only kill adders.
If a kill triggers the rare spawning, the game would probably choose an available spawning point, which means if an adder is dead, an imperial python can take this slot to spawn. Else, it will spawn something else where it's available.

Still the crab is alot rarer than the emerald gander, why is that ?
I think there are two factors :
1 : Blizzard might have put a factor of rarity that is different for each kind of rare. The crab can be 5% chance where the turtle can be 15% on any "rare spawn trigger event".
This we can't and will never be sure. The second point, yet is much more important.
2 : If the game takes at random any available spot and spawns a rare version there, it would explain the odds. Snakes, turtles, cranes ... Everyone is always killing them, there are plenty of spots for the game to spawn a rare version for these. But crabs ? Noone is ever killing them. And when someone is, it's at the horde flypath, meaning there are, at best 7-8 spawn spots available at maximum.

Here's my conclusion : Heathmonn managed to increase the amount of spawns for him, beacause he increased the number of possible spawns spots for a crab, if a "spawn rare event" triggered. Still this is going to be uneffective if there are not enough people on the isle to rampage adders, windfeathers and so on.
One last thing that is EXTREMELY important in Heathmonn's strategy : you have to be there when the crab respawns. The important point to me isn't that you dont miss the respawn of an elite (of course it is important) but that you rekill the crab instantly, thus making the spawn point available 95% of time.

TL : DR
Try to farm at day (mostly), or when there are enough people on the isle farming other types of elites.
Try to get as many spawn points of crabs available (crab is dead) at all times.

One last advice : it's okay to have to go to piss or to grab some food. It's smarter to do it right after you clean your farming spot and you know you have 2 minutes before any respawns

Looking for those who are actively trying to farm the Spineclaw Crab pet off Monstrous Spineclaw rares on the island for the achievement . Being able to have access to multiple server's spawns can reduce the time required for this achievement significantly.

If interested add ************* and I will notify you if it spawns on my server. Vice versa if it spawns on yours.

This can spawn at any point that an Ancient Spineclaw could respawn in. This means it is very inefficient to kill all the spineclaws on the island to force it to spawn. It is better to kill all of them in one spot. Also, you can tell soomeone's character by how they react to it. Nice people announce it before nuking it. Horrible people just nuke it.

I've killed this thing so many times on my main,...yet, for fun, logged in to my alt and got it first kill. So, my advice is to try logging in to an alt. Now that the achieve is account bound,...alts make life so much easier :) Yet,...Huolon has yet to drop his mount for any of my toons.....after 300 plus kills.

So I've been farming this guy for about 2 weeks now. Up till this week he had a HORRIBLE spawn rate that was driving me crazy. It seems that he's been hotfixed or something this week though. I've seen more rare crabs in 2 hours than I have in last 2 weeks. Am I just having a lucky streak, or are other people experiencing this as well?

Best way to get the pet is make a grp of 5 ppl and kill every single crab there is we got a spawn every 30 mins (sometimes we had 2 or even 3 rares up at the same time) if 1 spawns we waited till everyone was there and then we killed it ive seen 9 ppl get the pet i was lucky number 10 after killing 122 monstrous spineclaws
Cause the loot is personal everyone got an even chance of getting it

Based on the information from comments written by other player, I've come up with a timeless isle theory that for rares that require kills to spawn, there is one individual mob that triggers the rare spawn. Killing rares in one area doesn't seem to be effective at all. After that mob is killed, another lesser creature becomes the spawn trigger. I've noticed, while hunting the Imperial python that killing the ones where less players travel seemed to spawn it. This would explain why camping in one spot is not effective. Hence why the monstrous spineclaw is a rough creature to bag up considering there are spineclaws all around the island.

With 6.0.2 and people farming the isle once again I decided to stick to the strat of camping the area near the horde flight path. It took me several days, but by doing this I was killing about 3-4 Monstrous Spineclaws per session (2 hours tops)

Today I spent about 5 hours camping the spot. Here's some advice:

Kill all 7 normal crabs that spawn at once, or you know, as fast as you can and then tab out and do something else. I was doing the farming on my boomkin and all I did every 5-8 minutes was use star fall, loot and tab out.. .OR
Kill all 7 crabs and head over to check on another rare you need. During my first attempts I used to kill all 7 and then head to the cave with the spirits and clear them because I still needed the pet, by the time I went back the 7 crabs would spawn and I'd star all over.
If there's someone else also farming the crabs, let them do the work and tab out with your NPC scanner on. Sometimes they'll go AFK and then it's your turn to do the kills for them.
Avoid the crabs that are by the frog area, I found that spot to be too slow, stick to the horde FP, it has the highest number of crab spawn points in a tight area.

After killing 5 rares today, I was about to log out and take a break after the the 5th kill where one of the people in the area got the pet. I was mad/sad and everything in between… then, before the logout was completed, another crab spawned! I killed it and finally got the pet. I have a screenshot of the 2 rare crab corpses and was going to submit it but I see someone already posted one of these events.

Keep at it, specially during these weeks before WoD, so many people in the isle are making the spawn timers very fast. Good luck!

I have no idea if its luck on my part (I doubt that since I have had zero luck at drops for 7 years now)

In 30 minutes
Jademist Dancer: got 4 drops. two in the same set<<omg right.

Dand Frolicker: got 2 at same time on 1 toon and 1 on another I have not done a third.

spine claw: two Toons and one drop each.

Not braggin at all Im just saying if your like me and want every fracken pet Id say its a good time to go check it out now.

From my point of view its 2 things: a 6.1 glitch in our favor. If youve noticed 6.1 right now has a ton of glitches especially in everbloom instance.

or #2 drop rates went up.

dont spend 1 to 5k in ah right now and hop over to the isle for an hour.
Hope someone that wants a pet finally gets one.

I have been working on farming these critters all week. I have about 14 hours into it so far. I can say without any doubt that there is zero correlation to them spawning from less actively farmed versus more actively farmed areas. I have worked in just one set of spawn points and have roamed around as well. It doesn't matter how many or how few crabs have been killed in an area in terms of the chances for this rare spawning to occur. A dead crab is a dead crab and the re-spawn has the same <rng> chance to spawn an elite. I have 3 spawn in less than 15 minutes near the Horde flight point one day and then only once every hour or so the following day. This is an area worked over all the time so I tried farming near frogs and near the alliance base as well. I found no notable difference in the elite spawn rates over the normal spawn in any specific area. If anything, I had less running around working over the Horde area in terms of spawn per kills.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been farming these for the pet lately? I read all the comment to see what people thought, what some people think etc etc, but I just about lost it on the weekend going mad lol. I have been farming the horde flight path area for 4 days, the first day I was able to get 3 spawn in 2 hrs and the next day 3 more in 4 hours. On Saturday I was really bored and all I did was farm these beautiful animals, 6 hours I got 2 to spawn within the first hour and then none.

I thought maybe the person was right that there is a predetermined crab you have to kill to trigger it going to another crab etc. I know no one else was around when I tested this because the crabs were slowing re spawing in the same order I had killed them. I went over to the frog area and started from there and cleared every single crab along the way to just near the flame rare spawn corner and went back. They all spawned normal crabs, did this over and over for about 2 hours and not one rare.

Sunday came along and I gave up after 5 more hours of no spawning. Was this just horrible rng or is it getting harder and harder to do the crab one since im on a dead server/crz (Earthen Ring rp) ? It got me really bummed out and I started to think that there might be a crab out there that triggers the spawn. I noticed this weekend was really really slow for activity on the island, I think I saw 2 or 3 people all of Saturday (they could have been up killing houlon and stuff).

Just curious if others are going insane or just my bad luck lol

I farmed all the crabs around the isle in the middle of the night to prevent anyone from killing it without me being aware. Took about 15-20 minutes and he spawned.

Just wanted to add a helpful tip to anyone camping the 7 Ancient Spineclaw spawns at (23, 32) just north of the Horde camp. Be aware there is an 8th spineclaw spawn over at (30, 30) past the Jademist Dancers. I had a Monstrous Spineclaw spawn there today as I was doing my Jademist kills between spineclaw kills. Its my 3rd day now of casually camping and I've had maybe 5-6 Monstrous Spineclaw spawns with no luck on the pet just yet but this 8th spawn could help you if you aren't willing to run all over the isle like I am.

After weeks of hardcore farming crabs to get the Monstrous Spineclaw to spawn, after 187 kills, the Spineclaw Crab finally dropped. To date, this has easily been the worst, most time consuming grind I've ever done in this game. (Insane in the Membrane was a walk in the park compared to this.)

After spending hundreds of hours grinding crabs, I thought I'd share my strategy as well as some observations I made during the grind. Some of this will reiterate what others have said in the comments.

Strategy

1.) If you're serious about getting this pet, you probably don't want to simply camp the crabs at the Horde flightpath. I found this method to be excruciatingly slow. I could go 4-6 hours without a single Monstrous Spineclaw spawn. This method is certainly okay, however, if you want to casually camp for the crab. But beware; unless you're very lucky, it's going to take an extremely long time to get the pet using this method.

2.a) What I did at first was kill about 24-26 crabs from the Horde flightpath to the dock where Karkanos spawns. I found that, on a level 100 mage with Blazing Speed (which works underwater), I was able to kill these crabs and get back to the Horde flightpath just as they started respawning. This method worked pretty well and I found that I never missed a Monstrous Spineclaw spawn that I caused by killing crabs. The obvious issue of this method is that it requires you to be playing/paying attention for the full duration of your farm. You cannot go AFK and wait for NPCScan to go off. However, I definitely increased the amount of Monstrous Spineclaws I'd see a day by using this method. (Camping the Horde flightpath, I was lucky to see 2, maybe 3 a day. Killing the crabs along the west and south coast yielded, on average, 6-8 Monstrous Spineclaws per day.)

The primary issue with this strategy was that other players killing crabs could throw off the relative order in which they respawned, making it much more difficult to anticipate a respawn. Therefore, if you use this strategy, I strongly recommend doing it when no other players are killing crabs, or in a group with those people.

Also, one very important note: The crabs do not respawn in the exact order they were killed. Their respawns seem to vary between 5:30 and 8 minutes. Therefore, crabs you killed later in your path can spawn before those killed earlier. You need to cover a fairly large distance when running back and forth waiting for respawns.

2.a) The final strategy I used involved investing in a second WoW account. I was looking to get a second one anyway (with the introduction of WoW Tokens), and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to pick one up. While having a 2nd WoW account isn't mandatory to kill crabs in the manner I described above, it does allow for 2 separate loots per kill (since the loot from rares is Personal). However, due to how respawn timers of crabs vary, having a second account allowed me to cover a little more area without having to worry about missing a spawn. Feeling more confident about catching any spawn, I expanded my grind to include every single crab from the Horde flightpath to the crab right below Zesqua (a total of 30 crabs).

After killing the last crab and working my way back up the coast, crabs were already respawning at the Horde camp (where I had my level 90 character from my 2nd account parked). After observing all respawns, I'd gradually move my two characters down the coast, keeping them 100-150 yards or more apart as to not miss any early-spawning Monstrous Spineclaws. It took me about 12 minutes to kill and observe all 30 crabs to respawn, so you're looking at killing roughly 150 crabs per hour. That's more than double the amount of crabs you would kill and respawn at the Horde flightpath in the same amount of time.

There were only a few occasions where I went more than 180 crabs (or 6 clears) without seeing at least 1 Monstrous Spineclaw spawn. I think the most crabs I killed without a spawn was around 540 (but that was over two grind sessions).

Observations

After spending an absurd amount of time killing crabs, here are some observations I made about the Monstrous Spineclaw and how it spawns:

1.) First-and-foremost: Its spawn is completely random. There's no way to predict when one will pop up. You can go hours without seeing one, then get 4 in one hour.

2.) The Monstrous Spineclaw does not have an internal cooldown on its spawn timer. I've literally seen 3 Monstous Spineclaws spawn in a single 30 crab kill session.

3.) A Monstrous Spineclaw can spawn from a dead Monstrous Spineclaw. This occurred twice during my grind.

4.) There is no "trigger crab" that must be killed before a Monstrous Spineclaw can spawn. I completely ignored the 9 crabs from north of Zesqua to the frog area for nearly my entire grind. No one ever killed those crabs up there. (At least, I never saw anyone killing them in all my times of being up there camping Bufo.) Simply pick a set of crabs you're comfortable with camping, and just kill those.

5.) There are 2 crabs that, when respawned as Monstrous Spineclaws, won't set off NPCScan when you run over them on the water with your Water Strider. I assume it's because they're deep enough that it outranges the scanner. The first crab is the one just south-west of the crabs near the Horde flightpath (around 16,36). The second is just behind Zesqua, in the water.

6.) Finally, any Ancient Spineclaw spawn point can spawn a Monstrous Spineclaw. There is no preference. A lot of people talk about commonly seeing them near the Horde and Alliance flightpaths. This is simply because these crabs are the ones that are killed most often. Most people don't want to swim down the coast and kill the ones that are further out in the water. For me, I personally observed a Monstrous Spineclaw at one point or another in nearly all 30 spawn locations along the west and south coasts.

As a final note, here are some funny, yet depressing statistics to give an idea of just how many crabs I relentlessly murdered:

1.) I looted 83 Spirts of Harmony (830 Motes of Harmony)
2.) I looted 38 Ghost Iron Lockboxes
3.) I made 22,000g just vendoring greys, greens, and Timeless Isle Tokens.
4.) I looted 3 Jademist Dancers from the ones that would randomly aggro me when I went to check on that one crab at the very back of that little island.
5.) I looted 14,000 Lesser Charms and 375,000 timeless coins.

TL;DR
To optimally farm for the Monstrous Spineclaw (and the eventual pet drop), kill as many crabs as you can that will still allow you time to get back to the beginning of your path and observe their respawns. It doesn't matter which ones you kill. Just pick a path your comfortable with and stick to it. Also, consider investing in a 2nd (or more) WoW account if you're very serious about getting this pet and the "Going to Need a Bigger Bag" achievement. The amount of time you'll save from doing this will be tremendous. Otherwise, just be patient and spread the grind out. I do not recommend hardcore-farming crabs until you finally get it.

Good luck! It will eventually drop, and you'll be so happy when it does!

I have been farming crabs for about two days now, perhaps. Only player farming, I know because I sometimes set target markers on crabs and return to find the same crab is still there. I have not seen a single elite spawn from them. I am not even after the pet, just a single rare spawn kill to finish off the rare achievement. I have gone and checked some of the more obscure spawn points to make sure he is not lurking.

I've 20k Achievement points, done some nasty ass grinds in my time, stuck through the worst of them. But I can tell you now I don't think I will ever ever ever bother trying for this pet, because I've been stuck here two days and can't even force a -single- Monstrous Spineclaw to spawn. Talk about terrible RNG and horrid luck.

I've been hunting this rare for a while now by going back and forth from the horde camp to the pier at the south-west(just a little bit up from Alliance camp-to no avail after a week of killing endlessly the ancient spineclaws....then just started camping the horde base where there are a nice little bundle of them....sure enough it finally spawned maybe an hour into the camp...so if you don't want to constantly go up and down the water killing them all, i'd just camp here, no movement involved really and about 8 spineclaws to kill on a 2 minute spawn timer, the lazy farm method i think lol

So the crab pet was the last one I needed for the Bigger Bag achievement. I spent 3 hours one night killing everything from Horde to the Frogs and got zero spawns. There is a comment in here about a higher probability of getting a spawn during the day so I tried that. I camped the horde crabs, took 2 hours. 63 kills yielded 2 monstrous crabs. I had two toons (two accounts) parked there, one tagged then my hunter killed. Hunter got it! So takeaways...during the day, yes, two toons, yes. Personal loot, yes. I had the same thing happen with Watcher Osu. A toon looted the Ashen Stone that was not on my main account. Blizzard said the Ashen Stone part of that achievement would not pop if I transfer the toon. It did.

I spent a good portion (unhealthy amount) of time farming it in MoP, days and days.

After a very long break, I went back a few months ago and finished the remaining items I needed on Going to Need a Bigger Bag. Making this horrible crab my last item.

I returned to my MoP dedication, and went in complete grind mode for almost 2 weeks. I'd log on check missions and head there until I logged off. Day and nights. Sometimes even forming groups to cover the whole island.

It took me, 5,186 tracked normal crab kills, plus whatever the people around me were killing while I was there.

Tonight, after the 73rd tracked rare kill (I didn't have Rarity during my grinds in MoP, so my actual number is unknown.) the pet finally dropped on my second kill. 71 normal crabs in for the day.

I usually tried to kill 3-5 rares a day before I would stop. Unless the spawn rate was higher that day, then I'd try to do as many as possible. 12 was my highest in a day ever.

Some days I'd get 2 in under 100 normal kills. Some days I wouldn't see a rare spawn in hours, going hundreds of normal kills before one would pop. I mostly stuck to the horde flight path area, and the one just past it. Killing those 9.

What a horrible grind!

I am NOT looking forward to this grind. I have the mount, most of the pets and trinkets, just missing a few items, this one, I'm saving for last.

Well, turns out it only took 4 rares for the pet to drop. After I spawned another rare just to tame it lol.

Highly recommend using the Cursed Swabby Helmet to farm this.

In particular, the fastest "crabs per hour" I have achieved is by having four characters on the isle and rotating between them every 15 minutes when the helmet buff wears off. This will allow for 100% helmet uptime (at least until they change it or make it a toy). This method is so fast that you will need to decide if you are going to wait for the slower respawns, or bypass them (waiting for respawns was higher crabs per hour for me).

Just to clarify, since it seems a number of people have very complicated/convoluted theories about what makes these spawn. It's actually very simple:

A Monstrous Spineclaw simply has a low chance of spawning in place of an Ancient Spineclaw. That is all there is to it.

What this means is that to farm Monstrous Spineclaws players need to kill Ancient Spineclaws and wait for them respawn a few minutes later. Obviously the more Ancient Spineclaws killed, the more will have to respawn, the more Monstrous Spineclaws will spawn.

The trick is to make sure that you don't stray too far from your kills and are in the vicinity when they respawn - otherwise you run the risk of someone else spotting and killing it while you are off elsewhere.

Just got the pet! I did some rounds running all the way from the jademist dancers to just south of where the beer elemental spawns, but ran in to so many other people farming, i was not confident I was always going to get the rares. I went north to check out the spawns around Croaking Hollow. The nice thing about being up there is there is much less traffic, so I was less worried about having my spawns stolen.

After a bunch of rounds, I really needed to get back to school work. So I would clear out the waters around Croaking Hollow, study until my last kill respawned, and do it again. This was a very convenient way to do it - of course, it dropped on my 3rd rare spawn there, so I also has some luck.

I have found a really fast way to farm spineclaw crabs. Just use 食谱：百鱼宴 to create a 百鱼宴 which will turn you into to a fish and give you 225% underwater speed while you will take 2% damage every second you are out of the water. the buff is usable while fighting and while mounted and can be extended by 1 hour up to six hours with 香脆培根, though if you have more than 6 香脆培根 in your bag you can continue eating it when the buff goes below 6 hours to further extend it. This recipe is purchased from 守护者蕾娜 for 50 腐化的水珠, which are obtained while fishing when the NPC is up. This recipe only takes a few hours to earn and using it is currently the fastest way to travel underwater. If you are thinking of farming this recipe it is best to farm it now since 腐化的水珠 are best farmed in a raid group and it will be much harder to find Legion fishing groups when Battle for Azeroth is released.

Kill it today while in a group (we made sure that we were both in loot range before killing it). I got the pet and the achievement, immediately trade the item to my friend, he logged out / logged in and then also got the achievement validated.

This guy actually has an enrage timer which will easily kill level 120's, so if you're tagging it and waiting for others to arrive, you might end up dying and resetting it. It takes a couple of minutes, but be aware.

It seems as if Blizz may have adjusted how this spawn works. I don't have 100% confirmed info, but recently all the rares on the island have been respawning 30-45mins after killing them (this I can confirm as I have timed a good number of them), but just today I found this particular critter camping around the coast at 28, 79 (near skunky beer).

I did not kill any of the other Spineclaws and there was only one other person on the island with me and he was killing Chi-Ji in the arena. It is possible that maybe it was a horde killing mobs, but I had not seen anyone around the shore when I was going around to other rares.

This may not be the most solid info, but I wanted to relay it to others so that they could also look into it and possibly see if this is true and killing Spineclaw mobs is now null.

I have also noticed that some rares are not up all the time like others. Bofu is one that I have noted that doesn't always have a consistent spawn time, maybe some rares rotate certain days?

Also, if you are a skinner, please, please, please skin the beast when you are done, Great Turtle Furyshell too. Just in case it helps these mobs spawn sooner.

*update* I was not able to keep a timer since I wasn't actually looking for him, but I originally killed him and wrote this around 10:30pm (Eastern, 7pm server). I had taken care of a couple other things, camped Garnia for two kills (45mins) and did the Celestial tourney. Went to find Bufo and Monstrous Spineclaw was spawned just off the shore of all the gulp frogs at 12-ish am. Sorry I don't have a more specific time, but now that I'm certain he's just spawning, I will see if I can get a more accurate time.

*Update 12/27* Been going back to the island repeatedly, sometimes a few times a day, spending a half hour to an hour (or longer) farming spawns and have yet to see him again. What I have also noticed is Furryshell has not spawned, Spirit of Jadefire doesn't seem to respawn until the next day and Rock Moss in the same cave has not been up either. I'm pretty convinced some of these rarer rares are on a separate spawn cycle completely.

*Update - four hours later* Spotted him again near Bofu again. Bofu was up too. I don't have the time to get a much more accurate timescale than this, but it looks like his respawn could be hours to days.

*Update 1/11* Just found Spineclaw spawned near Bofu twice, literally right next to each other. I think I'm safe in saying that these rares are indeed spawning without killing other mobs. The odds of spawning two and in the same area are so low that you could probably win the lottery. Twice.

*Update 2/9* I have found this mob spawned twice in two different areas at the same time. One near the Alliance camp/flight master and the second up the coast heading toward skunky beer, but closer to the big fish boss (apologies, the name slips my mind at the moment).

Grinding crabs since now...Here my experience.

Amongst comments here I found very useful the one by user deadmund over here. He suggest the use of food to bolster swim speed. Me, having not that recipe, I choosed the raft obtainable from Anglers reputation. Very quick to patrol from horde flight point till the frogs zone.
Killed not so many Ancient Spineclaw in the end.
The right Mounstruos Spineclaw dropped the pet after 15 attempts.

Finally after 7 hours of farming crabs he/she finally showed up. Was the last one I needed for the achievement. It spawned in between Alliance and Horde camps.

Don't get fooled by the speculations about how to spawn this rare. It's very clear: It has a small chance (most likely around 1% in my experience) to spawn instead of a regular Ancient Spineclaw.

I've farmed for this on and off over the years. Recently I got a second WoW account and one of the things I wanted to do was finally get this pet and finish off the achievement. Leveled a moonkin druid for this purpose and had him sitting at the horde flightpoint. I picked moonkin because of their 45 yard range, you can find a middle point where you can reach all 6 spawns without moving. I used this basic macro so that I could just spam 1 button every time there were respawns:

/tar ancient spineclaw
/tar monstrous spineclaw
/cast moonfire

I estimate this moonkin spent 80-100 hours sitting there killing Spineclaws (while I did other stuff on my main screen/account). Sometimes I would see several Monstrous Spineclaws within the hour, other days I didn't see a single one all day. At one point I had two spawn at the same time near me. When I finally got the pet, it was the 20th Monstrous kill for that character, and I think I got very lucky with this. Back in MoP I also probably had some 20-30 kills on my main account.

Note that most of this time is spent idle, while waiting for fresh respawns. If you were to hunt this more actively by swimming around the island you should expect to see many more rare spawns. Though you also run a decent risk of loosing spawns to other players killing it while you're on your way back.

You can spawn it by killing 上古钳爪蟹

The most useful things for grinding it:

幽光鱼竿 with 幽光祝福 and 表面张力 in it

垂钓翁的踏水板
be druid :)
You can find some 损坏的潜水头盔 underwater which gives you 损坏的潜水头盔 for 1 minute.
Any aurelid type mount also can do your life easier if you don't have other things: 闪光元水母, 深星元水母, 晦言元水母 - these guys can swim and move on land without speed decreasing.

If you play on quiet realms this is acually fairly easy to farm for the pet.

Blizzard implemented a feature some time ago where a zone unloads if no one visits it for some time, I believe it to be 15 minutes. If you visit the zone after this point the zone has to reload, often with a long load time if you teleport there. A result of this is that every mob will be forced to respawn and each of the crabs will have a chance of spawning as its rare variation.

What I did to farm this was to first obtain an addon like NPCtime which shows how long an npc has been active for and then teleport to the island using time-lost-artifact in WM on. If the zone freshly loads of even has only been up for a few minutes I would do a circuit of the island and was usually able to find at least one rare. Once done I would visit the small inn tent to turn WM off and try again. In all it took me 101 attempts for the pet to drop with over 80 of these attempts being in a single month.

The current reset timer for 永恒岛 appears to be 15-minutes. This means if the zone has been empty for that amount time, that particular shard/layer will reset the moment you reenter the zone. This can be a highly effective method for farming rares for 需要一个大背包, opposed to the traditional camping method of every 30-60 minutes, especially on RP servers, War Mode and Chromie Time groups.

For 不朽的勇士, this method is also effective for forcing rares that share spawns with common mobs including 翠羽公鹤, 铁鬃钢角牛, 怒壳巨龟, 帝王巨蟒, 凶暴钳爪蟹.

Has anyone seen this crab in Remix? Since there are no spineclaws to kill to force the spawn, I'm not sure this rare is even in the game in Remix. I've been going back and forth along the coast for a while now, but had no luck.

- We make a group covering all the spawning areas of the rare
- Kill every Ancient Spineclaw you see
- When the rare pops, report it on the group and people will start moving
- Hold it and watch if anybody is close, if the rare is on risk, kill it, if not, wait to everybody come
- If the pet drops, DON'T LEARN IT. Gotta trade to everybody to get credit of the loot.
- When everybody got credit, pet will go to the original owner.

I'll be all day on LFG (Horde) in a custom group called "Monstrous Spineclaw camping group"

In Remix,

I took the time to farm for a second Monstrous Spineclaw spawn on the same daily lock-out, it seems to be farmable multiple attempts per day. The rare still had the silver dragon portrait.

I hope this helps people farming for the atrocious pet.

I made several class trial druids to work on the last few items I needed for Going to Need a Bigger Bag. They helped me get down to one single item needed, the Spineclaw Crab. Since I had made the class trial toons on low population servers, I used them to get the Monstrous Spineclaw to spawn. HOWEVER, the Monstrous Spineclaw drops ZERO loot when you are on a class trial character. No crab meat, no timeless coins, nothing. Don't waste your grind using a class trial character on the Spineclaw Crab. Park them at the other rares and use a character on your account for the crabs.
