The drop rate on the brain is no where near accurate. The Cleveland Browns have a better chance of winning the super bowl than you do of getting a brain drop.

The basilisks seem to be on a shared spawn table with the rest of the wandering mobs for the buff quests (Boars, Scorpids, Felhunters, Vultures). Basically, if you find very few basilisks, you need to clear all the wandering mobs at the points marked on the map where basilisks are and each spawn location has a chance to respawn as a basilisk.

Do you remember the good old times before Cataclysm, when we had to get basilisk brains? Well, somehow at least 95% of them seemed to be totally brainless. It was really creepy. Or maybe I just squashed them by beating them too hard...

I don't know if the Cataclysm fixed this problem, I have yet to see any brains at all. They do however seem to have a descent amount of blood, which is not so creepy. Pretty normal I would say.

These beasts are now tameable by Hunters. Note that there are two crest colours to choose from, blue and jade, which are only subtly different. The blue is a richer colour, the jade is a washed-out green.
