Erudax does every so often a
Shadow Gale
named ability, get to middle of the Gale and you wont get killed.
He hits the tank with
Enfeebling Blow
, so tank should try to avoid contacts with the boss until the debuff wears off.
He also summons
adds
which will
hatch
some Twilight Whelps. Whelps works similiar with Val'kyr on Lich King heroic encounter, flying high and dealing a lot of damage, so kill the hatchers asap.
He also shoots random players with
Binding Shadows
, which will root player and deal shadow damage-over-time. Root can be dangerous when combined with Shadow Gale
Encounter works mostly this way at least on normal mode.

How to successfully beat this fight on heroic:
Setup:
Protection paladin (me)
Restoration shaman
Shadow priest
Shadow priest (left after a few tries)
Feral druid (replaced the priest)
Fury warrior
First of all this fight is very hard if you have just reached level 85.
The boss will spawn a small shadow circle on the ground.
The whole room except the area of the small shadow circle will be affected by his aoe (Shadow Gale), which makes heavy damage.
This means stack up on the small shadow circle, this is prio number one. The adds are slowable but not stunnable, therefor we had one shadowpriest on each add, slowing them. The shadow gale will spawn on a random place in the
central
room(This excludes the area with the eggs, and the coridor from where you enter)
Prio number two is to DPS the adds that he spawns. They will run towards the eggs and hatch the dragons inside them, which will greatly heal the boss. The adds should die before they even reach the eggs.
Do not try to tank the boss by the spawning area of the adds. We tried this, and ended up wiping because the free-zone of the shadow galed spawned too far away.
To kill the adds fast enough, run to where they spawn slightly before Shadow gale ends and start nuking them like mad.
In addition to that, the boss will make an ability called Enfeeble body on the tank. This will reduce the armor. The tank will have to kite the boss for 5 seconds, but normaly takes one hit anyway.
Shield of nightmares will be cast on both of the adds and will cause
nearby
attackers to take 20k damage. The range of this attack is 15 yards, so melee should back off when the shield is cast.
Binding shadows roots a player, and causes moderate damage. Not interuptable or anything.
The hardest part about this fight, is that the adds are very hard to dps down fast enough. It's actually a dps race. Spread the dpsers on different adds helped as each add has to be slowed. And since they spread out after a few yards, you'd have to run across the whole room once one dies in order to dps the next one. Replacing one shadowpriest with a feral druid did the trick for us, since he did almost twice the damage.
Lastly: Good luck! It took us many tries till we got the hang of it, but mainly because we couldn't read about tactics anywhere.

Heroic ; spawns 2 ads , Slow them / Kill them so they don't spawn little whelps, the whelps they spawn just sit there and bolt you in the face.

OK a little hint you can completely dodge Binding shadows if you move right as he casts it. Also if there are like 3 or 4 guys in the binding shadow area they will all get hit. its not pretty but it can be dodged.

As a frost mage, I am able to solo one of the adds on heroic mode
and
snare the other for 8 seconds, leaving the other add with two designated DPSers and plenty of time.
When he casts Shadow Gale, just spam Frostbolt, and possibly Flame Orb, nothing else. The idea is to build up
Fingers of Frost
. If you get unlucky and don't get any Fingers of Frost procs before his cast is over, tell your elemental to
freeze
the boss. It won't actually do anything, but
it gives you two stacks of Fingers of Frost
.
Once you've got your Fingers of Frost procs up and the adds spawn, Blink to them (I have
Improved Blink
in my PvP spec), Cone of Cold both of them, then pop Deep Freeze on your add. Since they're immune to stuns it'll hit for insane amounts (I've seen a 93k crit). After that, just burn it down as you would any boss.

Heroic Strat:
Tank
Keep him in the center of the room.
When he uses
Enfeebling Blow
and knocks you back, wait for him to come to you, and reposition him.
Heals
Nothing specific for you to do, just heal!
DPS
After he casts
Shadow Gale
, 2 adds spawn at the room entrance, slow them with whatever you can (Chains of Ice, Crippling Poison, Mind Flay), and burn.
Back on the boss once the adds are down.
Everyone
Erudax uses
Binding Shadows
, which throws a Shadow Crash like missile, targeted at the ground under who he picks, move from that area, as it heals him for the damage you take, and paralyzes you.
When Erudax casts
Shadow Gale
, a purple vortex will spawn on the dirt part of the floor(ie not where the dragon eggs are), everyone has to move and stand in the purple vortex. Note: the boss takes increased damage during this ability, so casters go nuts, and if the tank can drag Erudax to the vortex, melee should join in the fun also.
Things to remember:
Adds only spawn AFTER Shadow Gale.
Kill the adds asap, using whatever slows you have, as if they hatch any dragons, you'll have the little beasts flying around the room shooting you with fire and bad things.
The boss may use
Shield of Nightmares
on the adds that spawn if they don't die quick enough, in this case, melee may have to run out and let the casters finish the boss off.

Just killed him on heroic difficulty after several wipes. The key is to have at least two people capabale of repeatedly snaring an add.
We were:
Paladin (healer), 2 warlocks, a hunter and myself a death knight tank. The time between add-phases is easy, just tank Erudax somewhere in the middle and have your healer keep an eye out for binding shadows. People have to split up which shouldn't be difficult. If he knocks the tank back he just has to run a few steps backwards. The debuff will be off by the time the boss catches up (also be sure never to stand between a bracier and the boss or your flight backwards may be a short one).
Once he casts Shadow Gale run to the "eye of the storm" and wait it out/dps the boss if he's within range.
After wiping a few times we then decided to simply have all the dps attack/snare one of the adds and the tank snare and beat on the other one. This way of course requires a tank capable of snaring, but the strategy made the fight almost trivial. With no whelps to bomard the raid with fire our healer had no problem keeping everyone up.
All in all it's an awesome fight that simply needs good execution on everyone's part.

This Fight is Simple - the guide to HEROIC DIFFICULTY
1 - Sometimes he will cast a spell named Shadow Gale , go inside the Gale , because if you are there you wont take damage from the AOE spell that is to come
2 - He will summon 2 add that has 300k hp , the adds will run to Alextrasza 's Eggs , the Dps'ers must BURN the adds as QUICKLY as POSSIBLE , because if they cause the Egg to hatch , it will summon 5 Whelps that can turn the fight into Chaos , Erudax will cast a shield on the summoned adds if they dont die fast , cuasing 20k damage to be dealt to the attacker
3 - He will cast a debuff on himself , it will deal 75% melee damage as shadow damage , it will knock the tank and the tank must kite the boss around because when tank get knocked it will receive 200% more damage , fotunately it's only a 5 seconds duration debuff
4 - he will cast a spell that drain the life from a random player , and root it , if you have it while shadow gale is open , you must dispel it very fast and run to the gale
And that's it , Hope you Enjoyed

This has got to be the the first of many, many bosses with a "hug me"-mechanic that doesn't totally screw hunters.
Mixed feelings between "wh00t, awesome!" and "it's about *beep* time!".
One wonders why they just don't give every boss a hitbox like this.

This fight was actually very easy for us, if only because of our arcane mage. Otherwise, you will want to have ranged classes as much as possible.
Protection paladin
Restoration druid
Enhancement shaman (me)
Unholy DK
Arcane mage
Don't screw up when he casts Shadow Gale, make sure your tank stays away from him after Enfeebling Blow and damage should be minimal. Our druid finished this (6.6mill hp) fight with full mana.
When the adds spawned, we started by having the arcane mage slow the one on the left. The DK and I would then quickly kill the un-slowed one, then switch to the other. They never even started casting. The arcane mage stayed on the boss the whole time.
If you have a 2nd dps that can slow them down, say a warrior, this should be cake.

Ok, so here's some stuff I haven't read elsewhere yet.
From the perspective of the healer.
You get a damage buff while fighting in the eye, my dps tells me.
The normal phase is a joke. I threw Lightning Bolts. Riptide whoever didn't manage to avoid Binding Shadows, go back to LB. Occasionally refresh Earth Shield on the tank. Yell at the tank for charging back in after the knockback.
The phase after Shadow Gale is the killer. I was actually helping to dps the adds, we were having so much trouble. On heroic, they must die before they finish the channeled spell "Twilight Corruption". If any of them successfully cast that spell before about 20%, it's a wipe. You'll never be able to heal through those little bastards shooting the whole party with shadow bolts. On the 11th try, we finally managed to get it almost right, our boomy on the left add went oom and it channeled the spell. The boss was at about 20%. I blew Heroism and we rolled face on teh boss. He died, right before we all did. I was spamming Healing Surge like there was no tomorrow. I had no mana left. I was using bandages to keep dps alive.
As a result of this, the interrupt doesn't even come into play on heroic, if you need to interrupt it, it's a wipe already.
When you screw it up and they finish the channel at anything above 20%, run out. He'll reset. Save yourself the (admittedly small now) repair and the (not so small) run back.
I found the easiest way to handle the adds was to put your 2 highest dps on one add, and the healer the tank and the other dps on the other add. That usually balances it to where they die before they even get to the eggs. Usually. If they get snared from almost the moment they spawn, which is what I did, ghost wolfing through the last 2 seconds of shadow gale and earthbinding them.
Hope this helps.

A rogue with crippling poison on his thrown can use Fan of Knives on the adds just as they enter the room to slow both at once.
70% reduced speed = easy mode.

Interesting trivia: This boss and the eggs are apparently in the room Alexstrasza was imprisoned in while the Orcs were keeping her under their control. You can notice the massive chain and manacle near the doorway, and her claw marks on the floor.
Also, notice the room is marked 'Lifebinder's Cell' on the map.

Completed this boss yesterday on Heroic mode
Setup:
Paladin tank
Druid healer
Fire Mage (me)
Shadowpriest
Rogue
We had absolutly no problem with the healer/tank dying, all our wipes were because of the Faceless Corrupters summoning the dragons.
We had the rogue switch his poison to crippling poison, after the Shadow gale, i blinked towards the entrance and Blast Waved and Cone of Colded the Faceless, and the spriest using mind flay. Basicly you must keep them slowed if not, they will spawn adds and they will kill you.
Preventing the Faceless Corrupters from reaching the eggs is key for this fight.
Good luck:D

Seal of Justice will not slow the adds to 100% movement speed. Ended up wiping like 5+ times as we only had frost shock as a slow and it was from an elemental shaman which screws up his dps rotation.

Our heroic strat :
Deathknight (tank)
Feral Druid (dps)
Enhance Shaman (dps)
Survival Hunter (dps)
Disc Priest (healer)
The fight is quite simple after a couple attempts but it has to be done really well to win.
Avoid the missiles he throws as those heal the boss and root you. If you see him cast it, simply move away 5-10yd if your sure he isnt targeting you.
Second thing is gale, our group found out it doesnt necesarily spawn near center, but it does near a member of your group, for us, stackin around the boss guaranteed the gale to be close by.
IT IS CRUCIAL YOU KEEP THE BOSS IN MELEE RANGE DURING THE SHADOWGALE
this way your melee dps will be able to whack at it, your healer cast something if he is good on mana, etc. Without the boss nearby in gale, the fight will grow much longer, harder, and you will most likely die.
Immediatly after the gale 2 adds will spawn at door. They are
slowable
but not stunnable/fearable/rootable. Split your dps accordingly, but dont forget to count things like dazing shot and infected wound which slowed the adds buying more time for the dps, our tank also threw in some frost chains to slow some of the adds. Without slows and good dps, it is quite likely the mobs spawn several eggs.
Also during the fight the boss will cast feeble body on tank, knockin him back and making him vulnerable to attacks for 5 seconds, the tank should kite the boss to prevent himself from taking tons of dmg.
After this the boss will start a new cycle again, dodge some missiles, stack around boss so the gale is close, enter the gale WITH THE BOSS IN MELEE RANGE, then immediatly after it ends go for adds. Rinse and repeat. In 3-5 cycles, depending on your dps, the fight should be over.
======== Sidenotes========
-The reason you split your dps and not just focus one is because the boss, seeing that one of the adds isnt dying fast enough, will give it a buff dealing 15-20k shadow aoe dmg, making it harder to dps safely, giving the add time to heal the boss or hatch eggs.
-If one of your teamates gets hit by the missiles and you can dispel it without seriously diminishing your dps, do so, specially during adds so your teamate can catch up or get into a better position.
-Make sure you plan ahead of time what to do if the boss gets within "killable" hp (less than 5% or so depending on your dps) when the add spawns so you can decide to play it safe and kill the adds once more or race him down (if this fails he will be healed and its a wipe). The worse you can do is have a confused team with some killing adds some staying on boss.
-DONT GIVE UP. It took our group 6 tries before getting this down perfectly.
*Good luck!*

Just did this today with a guild group and a pug hunter in LFD. Never got past Forgemaster Throngus on
Heroic
mode until today, having to go through about three unsuccessful Heroic Grim Batol runs.
Our group composition:
Protection Warrior (me)
Feral Druid
Restoration Druid
Destruction Warlock (was Demo up to this fight after many unsuccessful attempts)
Survival Hunter
At start, I pulled him to the center of the room. I'm pretty sure like everyone else said, if you know the Binding Shadows is coming for you, be sure to keep yourself on the move! The healer can just apply HoTs while running around.
When adds spawned, I helped the side the feral druid was on. The feral druid has built-in slow in his abilities, so it was very easy for the druid to keep one slowed and DPS'd down. The warlock and hunter was focused on the other one.
After many failed tries, the warlock decided to go destruction. This wasn't necessary or seemed to be the reason why we downed him, though. I would emphasize on how helpful it is to slow these mobs. The hunter was focusing on the one the druid was attacking, but I believed he misunderstood since I marked him as skull. I stopped doing the markings because it was making the hunter quite confused (and perhaps the warlock, too). I didn't intend skull to be the FF target, I was just trying to say that skull = feral druid's target, X = hunter and warlock's target. We never got past the first wave of adds until we realized not both of them adds are being slowed. After that, it just becomes a repeating process like most boss fights - keeping the effort up.
When eggs do hatch, it's almost a guaranteed wipe because of how the whelps heal the boss along with some sort of shadow missiles on the party, which becomes a nuisance.
If you're the tank and would like to assist by doing damage on one of the spawned adds, be sure that if you do get knocked back at any time, don't get hit by the boss. He hit me for like 50K (while most other times, I would parry/dodge/block by luck). Be sure that he doesn't hit you, and if he does, you're facing him so you can at least have some chance for parry/dodge/block.
As a warrior tank, I kite the boss by Intervening party members, but mostly by Heroic Leaping a far distance away from the boss. Max distance, if possible.

How not to fail on heroic
Keep in mind this fight
IS NOT
a DPS race. You have time, use it. Taking care of the adds is absolute priority.
Adds can't be stunned/feared/sheeped, but can be slowed. 2 DPS should focus on 1 add, burn it and afterwards assist the 3rd DPS with the 2nd add if it's still up. Then focus again on boss. Repeat
Tank kites boss when he has
Enfeebling Blow
debuff and waits for it to wear off. If tank doesn't, it's a wipe.
When boss casts
Shadow Gale
on the ground, everyone moves inside. It looks like a kind of "eye of the storm" graphic. Failing to do so will cause a wipe.
It's not a hard fight, but if one person is slacking, it will be. :)
Happy looting!

Thanks for all the great advice! Especially the frost mage and rogue crippling poison suggestions.
Don't forget destro-locks though. When talented, conflagrate is a slow. And if they set a portal near the entrance, they can port out of the vale and immolate/conflagrate one (or possibly both with a heroism or haste pot). This slows them for 8 seconds, and does some good burst dps. Shard a soulfire for instant damage if you have to. With the help of 1 other dps, its pretty easy to down him before he starts casting. Then tab to other one and help there if needed. Also, a sharded port will give a lock a movement speed buff, useful if they are not getting close enough to the guardian fast enough. The lock should collect his 3 shards from the guardian for the next post-vale phase.
This isn't ideal, but if all you have is a lock for slows, it is possible.

This fight is hard not because of the strategies but because of the execution. Everyone has to execute perfectly in order to down the boss. If the execution isn't perfect, from getting the adds, to the healer dispelling, to running into the shadowgate, it's a wipe. There is no margin for error. Because with any error the damage taken is so high there is no way possible for a healer to catch up.

Hi all,
To quote PhoenixWright:
If you're the tank and would like to assist by doing damage on one of the spawned adds, be sure that if you do get knocked back at any time, don't get hit by the boss. He hit me for like 50K (while most other times, I would parry/dodge/block by luck). We wiped several times on this boss and then I started to help out with the add that the warrior had.
If you want to do the same, try and have the boss on the opposite side of portal as far as possible...when the boss knocks u back, you should be close to the portal and with the debuff you should be able to help dps the add down, while the boss runs to you.
Also, if you are a feraltank (like me) barkskin helps if the boss is close by and you still have the debuff.
If your group has enough "slow" options and high enough dps, just ride it out :)
Thanks for all the help :)

This is probably one of the hardest heroic 5 man bosses in cata so far. Its not the boss itself thats the problem.. its the adds.
The adds need to be slowed... unless everyone in your group is pulling around 12-14k of dps you need to slow them. Arcane and frost mages you guys will do well here...
paladins i don't think your seal of justice works on these guys.. (for some reason our paladin couldn't slow them with it...)
Anyway i've only had one group do this fight perfectly without any of the adds touching the eggs... all the others have either failed...
Also Next patch the Adds are going to get a 10% movement decrease so it will be a little easier. they might nerf them more since those PTR notes are not final.

I haven't seen anyone mention on here regarding a list of potential/useful slows that could be used when fighting this boss, especially one of the most powerful ones considering some enhancement shamans have been commenting and I guess not taking notice of Unleash Elements - Frost...
If you have any shaman in your group at all, Frost Shock + Unleash Elements: Frost will slow the adds down hugely, you don't even need to be enhancement, but enhancement can help because on top of frost shock, your swings also have an added chance on top of that to slow them down.
Shamans can also Earthbind (has been mentioned).
Death Knight Chains of Ice, and I am assuming Desecration would affect both while they are walking down the hall if you are able to get there in time. If not, and you are short on slows/snares, consider Chaining the add you are not DPSing, and using desecration to slow yours. I am also going to safely assume Chilblains from a frost DK will affect both (howling blast is AoE, too, so it will slow both).
Druids get mushrooms that slow as AoE in boomkin spec, which isn't anything to be extremely excited for, especially when I tried it myself I always missed, but if you place and use them better than I did, I'm sure you could get it right. This would be incredibly useful when you get an eye that is quite a ways away from the hallway where the adds spawn, and you can explode from the ridiculous range that mushrooms have. Especially after 4.0.6 when they have a bigger radius and more damage, it will hurt both adds which is nothing to complain over. Feral druids obviously get Infected Wound, and if you have Glyph of Maul (feral bear), you can slow both. Otherwise, just tab target and mangle both, then focus yours.
Shadow priests get mind flay. That's about it, sorry... They can disperse early out of the shadow gale to get to the back of the room quicker, as well.
Affliction warlocks get Curse of Exhaustion. Destruction Warlocks with the Aftermath talent can daze for 5 seconds with Conflag. Also, placing your Demonic Portal at the back of the room is a logical solution for warlocks to make up for lack of slows with increased DPS time.
Warriors can use piercing howl, hamstring (and, since I don't play a warrior, but an arms warrior may be able to hamstring both using sweeping strikes?), and thunderclap.
Frost mages have been mentioned to be able to effectively solo adds. Arcane mages obviously get Slow. Fire mages get Blast Wave. In addition to the slows that all mages get, though, mages are pretty set. They can also use blink to mobilize quickly to the back of the hall, and fire mages, if on a crunch or maybe a DPS has died, can take advantage of Cauterize possibly to run early in the shadow phase then ice block once cauterize has taken effect. Considering the number of slows that I am compiling here, I am hoping some of these more drastic measures won't be needed to do this fight, but you never know.
Paladins are pretty much screwed unfortunately. Prot paladins can use avenger's shield maybe. Also, if of course there is a need for it, bubbling early during the shadow phase then running to the back room might be more beneficial, especially if the boss is out of melee range (if this is the case, use a judgment to also increase your movement speed -- but more on this later).
Hunters can launch traps, and I suggest pre-setting traps at the beginning of the fight... (notice the plural). Concussive Shot will also help, and I haven't actually looked at a list of pet skills lately, but I'm sure there are pets that aid in snaring movement speed out there that aren't roots like Spider Web, etc. Use disengage for increased movement speed to the back of the room.
Rogues get crippling poison, so they are pretty much set regardless of what spec they pick... very useful and similar to feral kitties.
---
Other tricks that I have picked up for this fight. First of all, tanking this as a feral tank, I noticed while he is beginning to cast the Shadow Gale, he can be moved. So, tank should position him to almost always be within melee range during the Gale phases, thus speeding up the fight, especially if your random heroic is melee heavy... because that never happens on a random.
A lot of the slows I mentioned are probably common sense, but like I said, one of the best slows... Unleash Elements - Frost has not been mentioned anywhere here, so I felt obligated to make a compact list for easy use for all classes, in case they were simply forgetting or overlooking some. Also, classes that lack comprehensive slows don't forget some mobility tricks they can use to at least get them to DPSing sooner to make up for their lack of snare.
In addition, I felt obligated to post this because it seems a lot of Cata will start favoring going outside of a standard rotation to complete many fights, of course. We were seeing in Icecrown the need to slow adds, and I am 101% sure that will be the case in Cataclysm (worms in Magmaw, anyone?). While this fight doesn't cover every stun and slow in the game, this is one that applies here and hopefully broadens your knowledge for future use on future bosses.
Good luck! Hope this helped.

Unless the boss has less than 200k health or so, always prioritize the adds. Unslowed, the faceless start spawning whelps and healing the boss in 10 seconds. There's absolutely no point in trying to shave off the extra 20 seconds it would take to kill the adds and then kill the boss with 100% certainty only to go all-or-nothing on the boss.

I find that people often have trouble finding the eye for shadow gale. As a resto shaman, as soon as I get there I cast healing rain aimed directly in the middle. It helps those who can't find it to reach it in time.

If you have a mage in your group, have them blink to port where the adds spawn and while the adds are grouped still use cone of cold....very effective at slowing them down...using arcane blast works but takes longer to cast and mage would have to cast it twice to effectively hit both targets. CoC then DPS them down....was able to kill adds well before they reached eggs...and using mirror image helps as well for added dps.

I have found that a Holy Priest make this fight easier than Patchwerk.
If your group has a Holy Priest he must never cast Chakra and then use
HW: Chastise
on Erudax as soon as he begin casting his
, this will interrupt the Shadow Gale and will avoid the summoning of the adds making this fight a "Tank&Spank".
This is for sure a bug from the disorient effect that will be fixed in the future but in the meantime, enjoy your easy achievement (^.^)

At level 90 I could quite easily solo the Adds. As a Paladin I used Divine Shield to get through the first Gale easily, and as melee, I remained at the center where your damage is lowered noticably.
But what you have to remember is that Erudax's greatest strength lies in getting the eggs hatched. He doesn't have a Heal ability, nor do his Adds, so you don't need to hurry him. So kill off those hatchers when they appear, or the hatchlings they break out will nibble down your health something chronic.

Prot Pala, ilvl 480, soloing in normal mode. The fight is annoying as it can be, because as a tank, you may not have a high enough dps to burn the adds before they start healing Erudax. None of his abilities hit hard, unless you end up falling in the lava, so that is not a problem. You really should focus on the adds he summons via his portal.
He places the portal opening at the feet of the stairs where you enter his chamber, so that is where the adds come in. They go alternating to the left and right side of the chamber and start healing Erudax.
So here's what to do: hack away at Erudax as much as you can WITHOUT using your highest dps cooldowns (like avenging shield). (Unfortunately, Hammer of Justice won't work either on him or on his adds). Make sure you stay close to the portal opening. As soon as anything spawns, switch to that add and leave Erudax. Follow the add and use your max dps abilities (avenging shield, shield of the righteous, all you can throw at it) to kill it before it starts healing Erudax. Then move back to the portal opening, and repeat.
If things go south, you can always run up the stairs. Erudax will not follow you, and you can eat/drink in calm and peace. Unfortunately it also resets his health, so you need to start over, but it saves you a death.
I managed to solo it, but it can take time... Good luck!

Did today on Timewalking, and Shadow Gale seemed to hit ANYWHERE I stood, even dead center. Had to bubble to not die. :/

for the current Timewalking event, Shadow Gale seems to be bugged when there are player pets outside the eye of the vortex.
it will cause the vortex to disappear, trivializing the fight

It seems like they changed the fight slightly for Timewalking in BfA. Previously, the Corrupters used the Heroic version, where two would spawn. Now, it's only spawning one, like in regular.
