Watch out for the Aimed Shot, especially when fighting two or more. If you die before looting one of these mobs, they will despawn before you have a chance to pick whatever loot you gathered up.

Druids, I kill these guys just south of Dragonmaw Fortress and I found that if you entangle them as they fly by, they'll stay in the air and can't attack. Then you can nuke them all you want. Be ready to entangle again if your first disappears though. As long as you keep them in the air, you're perfectly safe from harm.
And if you accidently kill the transporter while it's still in the air, just shift into flight form and you can loot him.

Paladins are totally screwed on this unless they have holy shock or avengers shield... damn im glad i aint retribution build anymore
Edit: also ive found that if ya manage to stand RIGHT below where they are landing and dont move... they cant land properly and will stay stuck in the air just above you and unable to attack... but they can take damamge and be killed :)

atm these guys are bugged for me (feral druid). i use my maim on them and it doesnt incapacitate them. any other druids having the same problem?

Pretty sure the drop rate on all items off these guys has been nerfed, i remember getting alot of greens and expensive grey items off these guys everytime i did the quest. If not maybe i've just been unlucky since i started doing these dailies again D:

As of Patch 2.4, the transporters no longer dismount.
Instead, they will just fly down to you, and hover a few feet in the air and shoot you. They're still reachable with melee attacks, but it changes kiting a little bit with them.
If you notice that they bug right above you, try running from them in one direction, and they will usually give chase and descend towards you.

you are totally not right that Ret paladins are screwed. On a floating stone 72.74 on a corner Transporters are have their waypoints set so belof the surface that you can hit it with a weapon, or cast a judgement on them. After you kill them, the respawn rate is barelly 5 seconds, not even enough to get your mana full. I collected all 10 relics in few minutes as a Holy without using holy Shock at all.

Well i find killing these guys most annoying thing in the game, even as a hunter.
1. If you just shoot at him, and he shoot at you, he'll start evading attacks but continue to attack u;
2. He will also heal himself to full hp while shooting and evading (God-mode on?)
3. You have to run around like an idiot taking all his arrows, serpent stings and aimed for 2k dmg (!!!), hoping that he'll be nice enough to land on a rock.
4. If he lands at last you still can't be sure whatever he'll start evading and healing self or die at last.
Have fun.
Btw. There's something wrong with informations about his Aimed Shot in Abilities. Says that it increases damage by 1,5k (WTB THAT!), while his normal attacks hit for about 200 and aimed for 2k on me.
200 + 1500 = 2000 ?????? And where's reduction from my armor?

Ret paladins are by no means totally screwed-- even though they're immune, repentance will pull these guys. A Blood Elf can also use mana tap to pull these. To aid in a rotation with repentance, there are also a number of trinkets with a ranged ability from 20 yds to 45 yds. Here's what I've found scanning the list of trinkets:

BTW .... they drops not only quest items and cloth... as WoWhead says there are a lot of "gray" and "green" items , but for my surprise they drops also "blue" Crystal Pulse Shield. Beware!

So just to summarize how extremely bugged & annoying these guys are:
Must be pulled from air from almost every spot, and will shoot at you a few times before descending.
Sometimes will not descend correctly and will reset after being pulled.
Cast aimed shot and serpent sting from point blank, WITH NO CAST BAR or animation.
Immune to gouge and (I think, hard to tell WITH NO CAST BAR) kick, I assume other incapacitates and spell interrupts.
Can evade bug in mid fight and still be shooting at you as it full heals.
Hopefully they fix most of these in the next patch or two...I'll be happy to be downgraded when they do!
Strategy for melee classes:
There is one spot where they skim the surface just in melee range. Facing north from the dock, there are two main islands floating just a little ways out at a medium height. The west one is what you want (it has a much higher neighbor to the west of it). In the northeast corner of that island is where transporters on north-south runs touch the surface for about a second before lifting up again. You can charge or cheap shot or use whatever opener you like here; you'll probably need to watch it at least once to get the positioning right. If there's lag however the mob could end up in midair, having just taken off in the lag after your attack, sometimes up so high you need to jump to hit him.
If you're a rogue,
I recommend distract: It makes the transporter stand still, resolving lag positioning issues, and the guys don't aggro until you attack them, so you have as much time as you need to set up. You can even use it from out of stealth to hold them in position until you're ready to attack (still waiting out a serpent sting for instance). One final note: Aimed shot CAN be stopped with a kidney shot despite the cast bar absence, it's just hard to tell when to do it. With practice you can get good enough at recognizing it that you avoid it on most battles. It's well worth sacrificing that full duration stun to avoid the 2k damage hit. Good hunting...

i must be nuts... but... i can hear the string pulling back for the Aimed Shot and i can interupt it. even tho they removed the cast bar for the skill it's still casting and you can totally stop it
don't get fooled just cuz you hear the string, tho. the autoshot sound is the similar if not the same exact sound. you can tell he's casting it cuz the 200 dmg hits stop coming for a few seconds. if that happens INTERRUPT... no more 2k hits

These mobs are ridiculously annoying and I am left wondering why they didn't fix these bugs in 2.4.3. They don't follow any of the rules of hunter combat or movement, and are the only mobs I've ever encountered that always get stuck in evade when you shoot without moving (yes, that includes all other flying non-friendly mobs). I know Blizzard could have done so much better with these.
In my opinion, these
should
(as soon as you aggro) fly down to you after shooting once (if at all), dismount, and begin either attacking with melee or ranged abilities, but not a ranged ability in melee reach (well... you don't let players get away with it, why should we have to face a mob that disobeys all the laws of the hunter class?). I've aggroed flying mobs before, but none of them (even dragons) began evading and self healing while continuing to attack with abilities that probably out-dmg any other non-elite in the game. Their damage should also be properly mitigated, because I shouldn't see my warrior friend taking 2k+ damage from a 2.5k unmitigated aimed shot when he has well over 12k armor and a good deal of defense rating.
Blizzard should either do 1 of 2 things: make the drop rates for their quest items 100%, or fix the evade and melee-range aimed shot bugs and make them dismount within 4 feet of ground level. The only other alternative treatment is fix the evade glitch so hunters can at least give a fair fight against them and make them fall to the ground like the flying mobs on the Isle of Quel'Danas once they die (so far I've died 8 times fighting these 1-on-1 and having been at full health at the start of each fight, and I wear T5).

I found another bug.
If you're a hunter, note that transporter is casting Aimed Shot, dont bother using Feign Death. Before switching to your pet, he'll finish casting Aimed Shot on you.

strategy
for 4.0 (Cataclysm) as "low" level melee class. It really helps, I haven't found an better way, they also come at a regular interval so it's not like it takes ages for the mobs to get to you on that edge.
