Elite NPC, designated for the kill quest: Wanted: Blacktalon the Savage. Found in the cave at 35, 63. He has 3 or 4 Stoneclaw Alphas ahead of him in the cave.

Solo'd him as a 61 BM hunter. It's fairly easy. Clear the cave and pull him out after dropping an immolation trap at the mouth of the cave. Turn off growl and put your pet on him. Arcane Shot kite him to the RIGHT, hug the wall, then you should get to a small incline(where theres usually a mob, but you should kill him prior to attempting this). After making it up the incline, make a left turn and have on track humanoids. Avoid the humanoids and the 1 or 2 boars until you get to the path(if you do pull a mob, frost trap him then feign death immediatly, your pet will get aggro and you can proceed to kite him). Once you make it to the road, head left and its just a straight away kite down the road. Try to not blow mana on serpent sting and keep the arcane shots to a 10 second interval, otherwise youll run out of mana too fast and end up reseting him.

Did this guy solo as a 60 Frost mage (41 pts in frost, 10 in fire) He was very difficult. Frost nova -> frostbolt + fireblast crit, run to other side of cave Water elemental freeze, frostbolt +fireblast, just gotta time your roots so that he is rooted almost the entire time. Had to pop Cold Snap so that i could use my Water elemental again (time ran out) got him down to 3% before oom, just wanded until i had mana for a Fireblast (use frost nova rank 1, otherwise you will go oom far faster, plus, when you are oom, you have a quick root). Used one mana gem and one hp pot.

Level 61 Mage kited him to Falcon Watch with Frostbolt Rank 1 and used frost nova on adds, was easy after clearing his cave.

I soloed this as a 62 BM hunter... the fight wasn't that hard, I just cleared the cave without aggroing Blacktalon and a Stonescythe behind Blacktalon.
I just had my pet tanking him with Mend Pet casted on him all the time, while I just Serpent Stinged him and used Arcane Shot sometimes, just to save some mana. And I used Intimidation and Bestial Wrath for some nice dmg ^^.. but when my pet died when Blacktalon had about 35% left, so just place an Freezing Trap that'll freeze him for 20 seconds, enough time to use Revive Pet and cast Mend Pet again (I have Improved Revive Pet, but I don't think that it'll matter much if you don't have it) and have your pet tanking Blacktalon again, and now just waste all your mana on Arcane Shots, and if you happen to get aggro just Feign Death.

As a 61 Paladin with around 7k armor, mostly plate, he hit me around 300-400 with the largest crit I saw of 823, and he attacks pretty quickly but not as quickly as an enraged Alpha. I did not notice him ever pierce armor like the trash mobs around him, as I would have had a hell of a time with that. Bring a mana pot if you take a while to burn through 27k like me.

Unable to solo as a lvl 60 BM hunter, buffed on my max, i only got him to half his health, mend pet was on all the time, used my trinkets, bestial wrath and rapid fire but it didn't wrk, if you are the same as me, simply bring a friend.

Easily soloable by a 63 Feral Druid. On the quest page someone recommended pulling him outside, which I did just in case (in case you need to root), but it wasn't necessary (actually I found it a bit risky considering all those ground worms roaming about).

I had just under 8k health in Bear form. And the Charm of Alacrity helps a lot. Keep that on cool down. Keep Bash on cool down. Keep Demoralizing Roar and Faerie Fire(Feral) up. When you're at about half health pop your Enrage + Frenzied Regen.

Wasn't a hard fight at all. Just be careful if you pop out into caster form to heal. He hits hard. Give yourself plenty of room to cast (and of course don't forget Barkskin).

Post patch 2.3 I have just soloed him with my level 61 Demonology spec Warlock. It was pretty easy really just kill all the adds in his cave and keep him feared and dotted up healing your felguard as necessary.

I personally pulled him to the front of the cave, and into the small part onto the left, so when I feared him he stayed put in the side of the wall, instead of running around and aggro the other mobs.

I couldn't solo him as a 62 subtlety rogue. I got him down to 7%, but he just hits too hard. Keeping him stunned was the only way I could manage to even get him that low. I was, however, able to solo all of his adds without pulling him, though sometimes he would wander in and aggro if I didn't pull them back after attacking.

Just soloed it as a lvl 62 Feral Druid.
Regrowth + Rejuvenation ticking, bear form, FF pull. The most important thing is to Bash whenever you can to heal. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25787#comments helped a lot, as well as Frenzied Regeneration. I also spammed Swipe whenever Mangle was on CD, the extra attacks coupled with Imp. LotP and the Dire Bear health bonus gave me that healing edge to survive the fight.

Yes, very easy as Affliction lock. Amp Curse and CoD, and just keep dots and fear up. I killed him with about 1000 health and 1000 mana left and dealt with three adds.

Easily completed as a 61 demo warlock (7/41/4, lol) with no help:

-Kill all the mobs except for the one in the very back that you can't get to without killing the big guy.
-Throw a Curse of Doom and corruption on him, as the fight will most likely last more than a minute.
-Run around the corner down by there an Alpha usually was, by a mushroom spawn. (It is a small tunnel to the left of you when you enter the cave).
-Throw your Felguard on him along with immolate.
-Just keep him dotted up and feared, you'd most likely want to CoA after the CoD goes off, since you might not have enough time for another CoD.
-Keep up your dots and Drain Life as needed, also take advantage of your Felguard intercepts as you will be able to use a few of them.
-???
-Profit.

When I feared him, he picked up and add outside of the cave, which didn't even really slow me down. If you get an add, just kill it while the big guy is feared. I only had to pop one mana pot, which really wouldn't have been necessary if I had more outland gear. I have no doubts that this can be done as affliction, it would most likely be easier.

Soloed with a lvl62 feral druid. She is kinda easy, clear the place and just dps her in bearform. Spank spank spank, bash, healing touch, spank, spank and so on. Bash will cool when you need it again.

Easily soloed by level 61 balance druid. Just get him out of the cave and use Nature's Grasp and Entangling Roots to keep him locked and spam him with Wrath and use Insect Swarm every time it's out.. I got agro from a tunneler when he had around 75% health tho, so I died just as I did the final blow to him. But if you clear the area outside the cave first he is very easy.

Soloed as a level 65 MM hunter, and I can confirm that even at this level, she is not an easy battle. I took the adds out one at a time first, then pulled her out to the cave mouth and started alternating between pet-tanking and kiting to let my pet heal. Unfortunately, I didn't watch where I was kiting and pulled adds, which finished the job she started. Fortunately I ressed at the body fast enough to grab my claw and run out of there before things got hairy.

This mob is not an easy fight. If you are in proper level range, you need at least one other to help handle it. You will pull the add beside her, or vice versa. And Blacktalon has a LOT of HPs, and hits pretty hard. Mend was not enough to keep my level 62 boar alive through the fight. BM hunter using all cooldowns with a paly was able to 'just' handle this mob with the one add. Bring a friend. Blacktalon has 27k hps, compared to the Raging Colossus who has 16k hps and is also a lvl 63 elite to give you and idea.

Soloed him as feral druid@62, mostly outland quest green's and blue's from Hellfire Citadel. Took out the two mobs closest to him, inside the cave. If you clear these mob's you'll have to pull rather quickly after they're downed, if you do this it will be an easy fight.

First try I got killed by respawning guards. Didn't pull fast enough! Second try the closest one respawned about ten seconds after I downed Blacktalon. Phew..! XP

The healing was easy since Blacktalon didn't hit me harder than I could use either barkskin or bash at every heal. Just remember to keep the Demo Roar and FF up all the time!

This quest/mob is soloable as level 60 frost mage called Lehu, with aproxx 200+ spell dmg.
Keep the fight under your control.

Use the water elements frost nova first
Then your own
Then blink
In the meantime there should had been a frostbite procc in the middle, which also helps with the kiting.
Then cold snap and start over with the water element.
Very easy, think i had 2 resists under the fight.

Soloed as a 61 prot paladin. She was hitting plate for about 250 so the damage isn't massive, but she does have a lot of health. It's a war of attrition, which is what paladins are good at - took six and a half minutes.

Usual prot pally tricks - judge/seal light and wisdom to keep you alive and stun her or bubble to heal every so often. I find I'm better judging wisdom rather than light so you can keep a holy shield up and have enough spare mana to heal often.

Be aware that the mobs are on about a five-minute respawn so if it takes too long you'll have double the fun.

Solo'd as a 66 Marskmanship Hunter, without any pots.

The key here is to not, under any circumstances, let your pet die. If you're forced to take the damage, you'll fall quickly. It took me two tries because I couldn't keep my pet alive. The second time was easier for me, since I let my pet get some threat before I started attacking.

Key Notes
Always keep Mend Pet up.
Aspect of the Hawk is great for added damage
Always keep either Serpent or Scorpid Sting up. I used Serpent for more damage, but I'm sure decreasing the number of times he can wail on you is also good.

I opened with my pet (Scorpid) and lured him to the cave entrance.
Once I could, I used Hunter's Mark -> Aimed Shot -> Serpent Sting -> Arcane Shot
From there, I spammed Steady Shot while my pet held aggro, while constantly casting Mend Pet, Arcane Shot, and Serpent Sting when I needed to.
Trinkets and Rapid Fire were also beneficial.

I managed to end the fight with only Mend Pet. However, if you need to heal your pet up (again, it dying is failure for you) lay a Freezing Trap at Blacktalon's feet (Scatter Shot if it's really urgent, followed by Freezing Trap) and bandage your pet up.

And I didn't check, but Scare Beast may work as well. Although with the others that may be in the cave, this could be a terrible move.

All in all, not too difficult to solo if you're a high enough level. A difficult fight, indeed. It's best if you have a partner.

Soloed as a 62 Feral Druid. I started out by clearing the Tunnelers outside the cave and the mobs inside leading up to Blacktalon. Started the fight in Cat Form with the usual Pounce>Faerie Fire>Mangle>Shred combo and switched to Bear Form before the stun wore off. I then used Demoralizing Roar and Mange while backing out of the cave. As soon as you are outside it gets easy, whenever you get low on health use Bash>Entangling Roots (or Nature's Grasp), step back and Heal/Bandage to full health and back to Bear. By the time I was low on health again my Bash was ready so just repeat the Roots+Heal as many times as necessary and he'll go down.

Soloed by level 60 Beastmaster Hunter. Skills used:

-Scorpid Sting to minimize pet damage.
-Frost Trap (CC) when pet health was low.

I've also bandaged my pet when blacktalon was CC and my pet died when blacktalon was at 10% just kited him with Aspect of the Cheetah, luckly there were no mobs around.

Solo'd as a 62 priest. 29/21/3 was my spec (a leveling smite spec, if you will). It is very difficult as a priest, with only being able to use one pot while in combat (as of patch 3.0.2). I found it helpful to try to keep up sw:pain and holy fire (devouring plague has a fairly high mana cost to be able to keep up all the time) and fear as much as possible. I tried to keep pw:shield up as well, but she hits hard and eats through it pretty quickly. Try to bandage during fears instead of healing to keep up mana.

Also, you can do the quest A Debilitating Sickness at the same time, as the mushrooms you need are in the same cave.

Not too hard on 62 Enhancement Shaman. Used Spirit wolves first, popped Shamanistic rage halfway through, popped a heal every time Maelstrom Weapon was up.

One note, there are 3 Alphas in the cave. If you haven't killed your quota already, they're all there. Clear them before taking on Blacktalon, they're close enough to add.

Managed to solo her as a lvl 61 warrior. It was a tough fight because she critted me for over 500 damage. I died once before I perfected my strategy to beat her. My idea was to limit her damage potential by stunning and blocking her attacks:

1. I started off by charging her and using shield block (charge gives DR on controlled stuns like concussion blow and shockwave).
2. At the end of the shield block I used demo shout and thunderclap then I ate a few seconds of damage waiting for the DR to reset on stuns. After about 6 seconds I used concussion blow on her followed by shockwave and then war stomp.
3. I used shield wall after the stuns were over then just waited for shield block to pop again and used it. After the shield block (and a 2nd shockwave) she died so I didnt have to use a healing pot or last stand.

Expect a tough fight but if you play your cards right she is definitely soloable as a prot warrior with the quest reward gear from HFP. Just watch for the diminishing returns on stuns (its 15 seconds).

Soloed him as a 64 fire mage, though some luck with fire stuns helped. (Combustion wasn't even up!) Pyroblast, fireball, fireball, frost nova, scorch, scorch, fireball, blast wave, dragon's breath, one health pot, few more hits and he was down. (Good thing, too, 'cause I'd backed myself down a tunnel.) No adds.

Solo'd as Frost-heavy lvl 63 DK. Started the fight (with Blood Presence active) with Death Grip (both to avoid the add to the right and because I love the spell), then popped my "^&*! you" macro (Lichborne, Unbreakable Armor, and Icebound Fortitude together). Layed my diseases on her, then just spammed Blood Strike and Death Strike, renewing diseases when needed. Layed down D&D at about 25%, and had to use a pot at about 35%.
If you want to make things a little easier, you can use one of the Rockflayer Alphas to spawn a Ghoul (I didn't use a Ghoul myself, but I'm positive it would be a big help).

This is was easy to solo as a level 61 shadow priest with 349 spellpower.

Make sure your dots are up all the time (including devouring plague) and VERY important to have vampiric embrace up.

Did not use dispersion nor a single potion. HP never went below 80%.

Tactics for a DK: Attack him, damage him, untill you are at 2k-3k health, then kite him with Chains of ice and use Death and Deacy + Death Coil. Good luck :) Having a pet helps ;D

Soloed as a 63 S Priest wasn't that hard. Put a shield up and waited 15 secs for weakened soul to end before I pulled him so I could use another shield right after(Which I needed cause he hits for like 500 on cloth and demolished the shield pretty fast) Threw up dots and MB while shields were up, and then used dispersion when they were both down and let the dots tick. I managed to kill him with about 35% health and mana left without using any pots.

Soloed him and an add that spawned when he was at 20k as a 61 feral druid, opened up in cat form to put bleeds, mangle and Infected Wounds on him, then went bear and mangled and Mauled for the rest of the fight, used Bash to get free time for Regrowth + Rejuvenation, no potions or cooldowns (except Bash) used.

easy mode as blood dk, just summon ghoul, spam death strike, activate dancing rune wep and hope for bloodworms. i was on 80% when i killed him.

I just soloed him as a 61 Rogue. It was pretty hard since Rogues aren't able to kite and can't take too much damage. I simply pulled out on my cooldowns, used Evasion till the end, and then KS right afterwards. When you're at low health, Blind -> Bandage yourself. He should be at least 30-40% health left. Then continue attacking and use a second Kidney.

Easily soloed with a 62 Ret Pally with quest blues and greens, only had to heal twice and didn't use anything else. Would have probably been once if I didn't miss the add that I aggroed along with the boss. It was hiding "inside" the boss and I didn't see it until the boss' corpse dropped.

61 Unholy DK, easy as pie. Diseases -> SS -> BS -> BS -> Gargoyle -> UHB -> DS when needed -> normal rotation. Went down in less then 30 or so seconds.

Took less then 7k damage total in the fight. Death Strike easily outhealed it.

I tried to do this quest, i went to cave, killed everyone except the boss, and then wrote /target bl, this targets the boss.
I was able to target it, but the problem was, even hunters mark (100yds) can't reach him. Maybe he can be somewhere else, not that cave?

Easily soloable as a lvl 60 Frost DK. Barely went below half health even though I had 900+ latency.

Here's what I did: Summon Ghoul, Death Grip, Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Death Strike x 2. Rinse and repeat. Pop Unbreakable Armour if you think you need to but otherwise really easily.

Easily solo'd as a 63 elemental shaman in TBC greens and 3 of my slots had no gear .. Just pop all cooldowns asap (Elemental Mastery, Vengeance of the Illidari, Thunderstorm) then use earthbind totem/frost shock to kite him and heal when necessary!

Killed as a level 62 Enchancement Shaman, without Spirit Wolves. Took 82 seconds.

Totems: Searing, Earthbind, Mana Spring, Windfury

I'd just alternate between Frost Shock and Flame Shock, kiting him back and forth between my totems. Casting a heal each time he was slowed and out of melee range.

He was susceptible to both Frost Shock's and Earthbind's slowing effects.

Good fight for lvl 61 deep shadow priest!
Soloable indeed, but I had to use Dispersion once, fear twice, heal myself (when he was feared) and dont forget to keep your DoT's active (not just refreshing your Shadow Word: Pain with Mind Flay, but use repeatedly Vampiric Touch and Devouring Plague.
He hits quite hard, my Power Word: Shield lasted no more than 2 his strikes, so don't really count on that.
As for the add, I got none, I don't know why, maybe it was because I feared him in the right moment, or maybe because I pulled him way back from the cave.
I guess the pulling will be the cause, because his add (as I noticed from the previous comments) is already spawned behind this mob.

She`s also very easy for a DK of any spec with the second armor.Just keep the diseases up and use Death Strike and she will be down in no time =)

Just solo-ed as lv. 61 Protadin. Not extremely easy, but definitely do-able.

just soloed him lvl61 death knight he was very hard and got him down to low health but got attacked by a monster while i was fighting the 2 of them together took me down to like 100hp but i just managed to kill them (if fighting this boss you should try and get someone to help you)

At the current time, Aug 25 2010, he's got around 27k health and is a hard hitter. As an Ele shammy at 61 I teamed up with a 60 DK and we had no problems at all. Just watch the add!

New patch, things change, so I figure I will post these as I go along, unless someone beats me to it.

I just soloed Blacktalon with my level sixty Death Knight, specced Frost. It was not the easiest of battles and had I not had a healing potion (major) on me, I would have probably bit the dust. As it is, he left me with just a little bit of health bar and "Low Health" floating mid-screen letting me know that if something wandered around the corner, I'd be screwed.

I changed from Frost Presence to Blood before I began to pull the two guarding mobs, figuring that the boost to armor and damage reduction would benefit me more than a damage/runic power buff and actually keep me alive. The two guards were an easy pull, Death's Grip failed on both, but it still pulled them without grabbing aggro from Blacktalon or the other guard. That done, I summoned a Ghoul and went in for the kill.

Blacktalon hits hard, no doubt, but compared to other elites at similar levels (Arazzius the Cruel, for instance) his attacks did not hit nearly as hard as I had expected. As mentioned, I switched from Frost Presence to Blood Presence and though I am sure this is what kept me alive, it is also the source of my only issue throughout the fight. Towards the end of the battle I found myself constantly starved for runic power and just hitting whatever came up from cool down first. I'd blown my pot already, so it really felt as though it was a race between my health bar hitting zero and another skill coming available. The race was close. Using Frost would have dealt with the runic power and gave me a bit of extra damage, but I am not going to go back and test out whether or not I'd survive using it.

So, fellow newb Death Knights, you can solo this (and if you do it on Frost, tell us how it went).

Very easily solo'd as a lvl 60 feral druid in cat form. Pop trinks, and racial ability along with barkskin; throu up a few HoTs on yourself and own him

Easily soloed as a level 61 feral druid. Be sure to kill the adds first, ignore the last add (you should be able to engage Blacktalon without aggroing that one, unless you get too close ofcourse). Start out in catform, then heal yourself once you're under 50% HP and switch to bearform. He'll be down and you'll still be at close to full health.
