Make sure all your casters stay at max range during this fight to avoid impale. And bring light feathers to slow the fall should they get impaled.
Oh, and keep the entire raid topped at full hp, whenever someone dies they spawn lots of little scarabs which are a right pain.

Hunter specific tips:
** Tips for those not running with mt **
- Add-tanks will need a hunter each to pull adds for them as this needs to be done super-fast
- Help clothies aoe the corpse bugs, with volley and multi
- Corpse bugs can't trigger Frost traps but are affected by them
- Adds can trigger Frost traps but are not affected by them :)
- Feign death and drink when add-tank gets a bit of aggro, you need lots of mana here
** Tips for those running with mt **
- Drink major nr pots!!!
- Get ss'ed!!!
- When mt is tanking, cast aspect of the pack and measure where to stand just so that mt isn't affected by it
- When mt stats running decide on a point on the ground, when mt is there you start running too. Players buff display can lag a bit and you might run too late
- Run on the outer side of the slime, I've heard about many who think you are supposed to run on the inner side :S

As of 2.0 Anu'Rekhan has had a slight DPS increase along with his impale now having a slightly longer range. Keep this in mind when doing this encounter after patch.

This character was a playable character in WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne, and was an invaluable ally to Arthas during the third war. He's almost exactly the same as he is in WC3: TFT, except for a little rounder around the edges (most other characters have a lot of detail put in, looks like Anub'Rekhan missed out), and his head is smaller. Really, there were no extra details put in, and when I first saw him, I thought Blizzard just ripped the model file from WC3.

A tip for Death Knight tanks is to use Icebound Fortitude just as the Locust Swarm begins to cast, before kiting him to the other end. If you wait you will not be able to use it because his silence affects IBF. By popping IBF at each swarm, the healers did not have to worry about getting too close (and silenced) until Anub'Rekhan was in his final position.

Impale
: While not under the effect of Locust Swarm, Anub'Rekhan will target a random player (usually one within 10-15 yards of him) and shoot spiked tendrils out in a straight line towards his victim, causing 3938 to 5062 damage to his target and damaging all other players in it's path. The target will be knocked into the air and will also take fall damage,
which can be fatal if the person affected has a very low health pool. In which case,
the use of class-specific skills such as Levitate or Slow Fall or possessing a passive fall-damage reduction can help prevent high fall damage.
(Health pools post Vanilla WoW have gone up considerably, thus the danger of taking fall damage on this fight is not as severe as it once was when this was a 40 person raid.)

While doing this fight, it is suggested that all DPS avoid stepping into the slime while the tank is kiting him, it will put a nasty DoT/Slow on you, its avoidable and just puts extra pressure on the healers.

Anub'Rekhan
10 Man
MT
: Tanks Anub'Rekhan against back wall. We put a feral tank on him. Watch for Locust Swarm. Take off running along the extreme edge of the room as Locust Swarm begins. AVOID green liquid ooze in the drains as they will gib your stats by 90%. RUN RUN RUN away during Locust Swarm. After swarm stops, drag him back to the back wall again. This is to avoid the add spawn area during your Lucust Swarm Run.
OT
: Tank add spawns.
DPS
: Spread slightly to avoid aoe dmg of impale. During impale use slow fall or levitate or cat form to lessen dmg if you can. Focus boss until adds spawn. DPS adds down and then back to the boss. Kill the adds when Locust Swarm occurs then move back to the boss when it falls off the boss. Rinse and repeat.
Healers
: OT will take big spikes during add waves with multi-adds on him/her. Just a warning to the OT healer.
MT healer will need to follow MT during Locust Swarm sprint to heal spike dmg from impale etc. Just stay far enough away inside the circle of the room to avoid the Locust Swarm debuff.

10 Man:
When I did this we found it much easier for melee DPS to back out and just have heals heal through Locust Swarm. This makes it much easier on DPS and tank and reduces risk of others getting hit by Locust Swarm. However it does have the following problems.
Pros:
1. Easier on DPS and tank. Much less chance of them getting hit or tank moving out of range of healer right before a big cast or something similar.
Negatives:
1. More healing is needed to you may need 3 healers if your gear is still in the blue and green range.
2. Off tank is taking damage too and it can be hard to balance the healing. Especially if the acid of the OT stacks high and he frenzies.
Might be worth a try.

A few random tips:
- Facing him east allows melee to get behind him and not get impaled when the ranged do. This also allows the tank to immediately turn and run during the swarm.
- DK's are great against adds with death grip and all that. DPS should take down adds first to allow for a more controlled environment.
- OT's that have sub par DPS, or a class with some AOE should pick up the little scarabs when they pop, or else it can cause slight knockback issues on the healers.

I agree with you minus the tanking with his back against the wall. He does NOT have a knock back. Facing him east allows melee to get behind him and dps without getting impaled when the ranged do.

Point of irony: In lore, Anub'rekhan was a subordinate of Anub'arak. In Wrath, Anub'rekhan is a 10 and 25 man raid boss and Anub'arak is a 5-man boss. Yet more evidence Blizzard utterly wasted an important lore figure. Hell, even putting Anub'arak in Anub'rekhan's place in Naxx would be better than the fate he got. Sad, so very sad.

Something I noticed while tanking on my DK
I decided to soak the Locust Swarm and here is how I did it with minimal strain on the heals. (Note I did this with crap gear. My OT was even worse gear so I considered us getting this boss down spectacular.)
1. Wait for Locust Swarm. Right as he cats it hit Anti Magic Shell. This prevents you from getting the debuff while it is up. Be sure to hit it right as he finishes casts.
2. Once magic shell debuff is up hit Icebound Fortitude. Assuming are Def cap this shoulder reduce damage taken by around 35%. If you want you can also pop Bone Shield, Unbreakable Armor, trinket, ect
3. Because all these CDs only have a 1 min cooldown they are up all the time. They also reduce damage taken to a minimal. Due to the magic shell you should max out at 5-6 stacks insteasd of 8 stacks without it. Which is around 5000 less damage per tick. Makes it MUCH easier for healers to heal through. In addition because you can wait a bit IBF should last through the whole Locust Swarm making it trivial to heal through.

Get your main tanks to:
1) Have as low lag as possible.
2) Bring these babies:
Swiftness Potions
(Once per combat of course but dead cheap and good to have).
On heroic:
3) All the above plus someone to intervene.
This should get the tanks out of most of the debuffs.
While on heroic it is night impossible for the MT to avoid all stacks of te debuff, running keeps them out of melee range of the boss for some time decreasing the heals needed.
Tanks: Remember, once Anub'Rekhan starts hitting you again, even if you are still kiting him - Face him. You can no longer outrun him, and although you cannot attack, your avoidance still works fine.

I went to work within a war factory of the mighty Scourge today! Naxxramas bristles with activity. I was saddened to learn that they were using more foolish puzzle mechanisms to power mission-critical teleport devices, but otherwise it seemed to be a tight ship. My thoughts turned toward gainful research, until I ran astray of the perverse nerubian...
The Nerubian's overtures are without number. Always calling to me in that creepy, droning voice of its. Invitations to study in his 'parlor'. I've taken to sequestering myself in the broken pipe behind Gluth's chambers, as it's the only place he won't follow me. My mind is wearing thin!
How does this lackadaisical cadre of misfits and rotting corpses intend to conquer all of Azeroth? Their self-defeating disingenuity falls short of any reasonable appearance of effort at self-preservation! I can make no effort to effect change with the detestable nerubian hounding my footsteps and blackening my dreams!
Though this may seem a trend in my recent ventures with employment in the Scourge, adventurers have broken into the necropolis and are killing my colleagues. Alas, even the hot redhead in Faerlina's cult, slain, before the creepy spider would let me talk with her! I hate this place, as soon as I turn undead I'm SO out of here. It's time to fight!

it is, in fact possible to outrun the locust swarm without a speed increase. When you begin kiting, there is a very slim area where you can run from the corner where you were tanking him straight towards the outside wall of the outer ring without having to turn to avoid said wall. If you do it right, you can outrun the swarm every time. I am speaking from the MT perspective (10 man, id assume the same on 25) so i know this works as untill VERY recently i had no speed increase.
Wish i had pics, would be easier to show the path - ill try and get a map or something.

well, when DBM (and every raider should have that addon) says Locust Swarm, the MT already should start running. this way he has a pretty nice distance before the boss starts moving himself. if the tank is fast enough, he even doesn't get hit at all. and to the healers that have trouble not being hit by Locust Swarm, try run on about 30 yards or something before the MT, and spam instant heals. that way, you're about 40 yards away from the boss, and you're still able to heal the tank

I did this (10man) with my guild. Its very easy! We were almost only newbs exept tank and one healer and maybe one or two DPS's! Rest were newbs..
The only time he is hard is when he does Locust Swarm. Its smart to have druids in the raid, because they can ress tank.
When he does Locust Swarm its smart to run away to the entrance.
When an add come all DPSs quickly kill it!

Just tried soloing him on my prot paladin, I died. I had just hit 85 so all my gear was greens and blues and a couple Wrath epics, and I had about a terrible 45-50% total evasion and I lived a decent length of time.
I think it is for sure soloable when you get enough gear, the only issue I see is impale or the add DoT stacking too high. You can just kite him on insect swarm (You know, the way you are *supposed* to do it).

Alright, tried soloing him *again* this time in all blues (A few of which were PvP, hey better then using Wrath gear) with one green, went much better this time. You can negate the impale fall damage by tanking him with your back to the door that closes when you engage him, you must be touching it with no space.
His impale will knock you up and you will hit the low part of the roof, meaning you only take about 3% fall damage, so that leaves the adds. I killed one, but right as I did a second spawned leaving no room for the debuff to wear off.
Again, I still think this is doable, just need to get some more gear.

This boss is easily soloable by a DK with engineering on 10-man at 85. Blood spec / DPS gear (359 with a few 372 items).
Just tank him in the doorway entrance to his room to avoid most of the fall damage from impale (I took about 9K give or take).
When the add spawns, it will run to you. Burn it down. It should die before you get more than 4-5 stacks of the poison debuff, which is very little damage.
When he is about to cast locust swarm, AMS and run to the other side of the room. An add is most likely spawning around this time so this is a good time to DPS it. Remember to be standing right in the doorway with your back to the wall if you choose to use the rocket belt as a failure will then not cost you much time or fall damage. As soon as you reach the add, start DPSing it in place. Anub'rekhan will come to you and cast impale before you can kite him back to the entrance. Parachute cloak, no fall damage, easy gold. Took about 4 minutes to kill.
You don't -need- engineering to solo this boss but it makes it a lot easier as there's then no significant fall damage to worry about.

Update again!
Blizzard changed his berserk enrage timer to 10 minutes, whether this was recent or awhile back I am unsure, this time I did it as ret since a healer friend wanted to come and see what we could 2 man, the boss had 5% or so left... (I would of killed him, but my 2H was a level 81 weapon. I'll try again when I get an 85 one tomorrow).
http://i54.tinypic.com/f51s41.jpg
Also note, if doing this as ret (Solo is unlikely, but at least 2 manning), kiting with insect swarm will by annoying since the corpse scarabs daze you.
Of bonus note, we 2 manned the whole plague wing with absolutely no problem at all.

MM hunter in 350 gear can solo this boss easily (10 man). Damage from impale is minimal standing in the doorway or not. CS and spirit bond make up for it for the most part. You may find it more comfortable standing in the doorway but positioning your pet so that he doesn't end up right on top of you after a few impales is tricky.
One important key is to MD the guards to your pet and burn them down fast with your CD's. This really stresses any pet other than maybe a turtle, which I didn't use (bear), especially when one comes out during locust swarm. This is the only time the kill is in jeopardy. At 359 this fight will be no more of a challenge than any vanilla boss.

No trouble at all as a 352 MM hunter. Just FD immediately whenever he summons a Crypt Guardian, they'll bug out at the doorway. I positioned my beetle (Don't really need one as my pet never dipped below 70%) just before the darker ring in the circle and stood in the doorway.
At around 700k HP left my pet did get a little too close from all the Impales but I just set him back to Passive so he'd go back to where he started off at.
Never dipped below 90% hp either.

I just soloed him on 10M as blood knight DK. Some tips:
1. Use Anti-magic shield on the first Crypt Guard to negate his poison. It should be ready for the first Locust Swarm, use it right before he's finished casting. Then use it again for the next Crypt Guard - it should be ready about mid fight. Poison damage was was about 30% of my damage taken. Be sure it's glyphed.
2. When you're fighting him under the door and he impales you, be sure to move him back into the room. For some reason he will glitch out and reset.
3. Glyph path of frost - not sure it it worked or not, but I think if you hit it just before you land, you take less fall damage. I couldn't tell it worked or not (due to combat)... If someone can prove or disprove it let me know.

Solo'd as 85 troll druid tank with and ilevel of 364, not enchanted with best enchants nor with best gems (completely forgot to use Berserking, the troll racial). 10 man version. Had Mending enchant on weapon, which did 70,814 healing over the fight (8% of total heals behind frenzied regeneration and leader of the pack which each healed around 350k throughout the encounter). Also had a 225 mastery potion on and a food buff that raised haste and stam by 90 (plus the obvious MotW).
Was able to do this on my third attempt (didn't even know the fight on my first attempt). The hardest part was the fall damage, since I was relying on both Feral Charge and Skull Bash to negate the damage. They seemed to work most of the time, but failed about 3-4 times so I took full fall damage (around 200k spread out throughout the fight due to falling). When the Crypt Guards spawned I would hit them with a Faerie Fire and focus dps on them. If I had Berserk free when they spawned I would use it then and spam Mangle.
On Locust Swarm I would either use Stampeding Roar to get away, or go Cat Form and use Dash (also Cat Form is 30% faster which helps get away). I still had to take some damage from locust swarm, which ended up being around 100k overall damage. Used Barkskin and Survival Instincts during this phase. Seems like the Crypt Guards spawn during this phase as well. I tried to stay away from them as long as I could until I got full use of my abilities back.
The Corpse Scarabs went down quick with Thrash and Swipe, maybe a couple Mauls in there as well since I have the glyph to be able to hit 2 targets with it. Oh, used the 3 obvious bear prime tanking glyphs (Mangle, Berserk, and Lacerate), along with the major glyphs (Faerie Fire, Maul and Feral Charge).
It ended up being a pretty easy fight that only got difficult, because of the fall damage. Some others here suggest tanking near the entrance, but I can't say whether this is good or bad since I did it by tanking them near the other end and alternating with the entrance after each Locust Swarm, but without being near enough to reduce fall damage when I did tank near the entrance.

Easy as hell to solo as a blood dk on 10 player difficulty: managed to kill him in 351 item level and I'm absolutely sure that if I hadn't failed on locust swarm at 336 gear (dps in both cases) I would've got him already.
Now in 392-392 it's even too easy, at lower item level what you have to do would be dps the boss normally, when the crypt guard spawns nuke it as fast as possible, it does a lot of damage, use ams if you can afford it (you won't get stacks of poison debuff from the crypt guard, BUT you MUST have ams ready for the next locust swarm, so if it's at less than 45 sec, don't ams the crypt guard), and when anub'rekhan does impale on you, use path of frost just before falling, reduces your fall damage if you have the glyph.
At locust swarm, run around the corner of the room with either unholy presence or blood presence but bone shield glyphed, for more speed, use ams when you feel anub'rekhan is close enough to apply you the debuff, this can be either at the begin of the cast or in the end just to be sure. At 336\351 item level, if you get hit by locust swarm IT'S a WIPE, cause you cannot use any ability for 6-7 seconds + get poison damage and at these levels you will die fast.
Now at 392-393 item level I can even fail on locust swarm and still survive, it's become completely a joke.
Here's my screenshot of anub'rekhan 10 soloed and almost dead in 351 item level:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/803/rekhan351.jpg/
.
So ofc I tried him on 25 players difficulty, the differences are: he hits a bit more, there are 2 crypt guards at the start, which also have way more hp, and on locust swarm he is not slowed by 40% like on 10, but by 25%, and this means that you WON'T be able to avoid locust swarm completely (can only think of an engineer with nitro boosts avoiding it), you will get some stacks.
Tried in tank gear for more survivability, died after 2 millions when I failed on locust swarm, but 5 mins till enrage I already knew that I wouldn't have made in time.
DPS gear boss, tried in 392, the strategy I used to survive till the enrage was: army at start and nuke crypt guards, ams their debuff; then nuke boss as fast as possible, when he does locust swarm run around the corner, but half a second before he finishes his cast AMS, at 25 the damage is enormous, definitely you should run with bone-shield glyphed in blood presence, unholy is not a good idea.
Keep running around the corner, when ams ends you will be hit by some stacks of locust swarm, keep kiting, usually in my gear (167k hp, I didn't use any buffs, though) you will have 20-30k when locust swarm ends, so vampiric blood and time to use cds to heal.
Like on 10 better using death and decay for the small adds.
Each locust swarm there will be this problem, I alternated icebound fortitude\lichborne\ghoul to heal back fast enough, you MUST be at full hp at 25 before every locust swarm, at least in my gear.
The boss has 6,7 millions hp and enraged at 1 million (10 mins enrage), a 300 strength flask wouldn't be enough, I think 395 dps item level is the minimum to do him at 25.
This is where I mean to run when he does locust swarm:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/513/rekhan25lol.jpg/
and this is as low as I can put him on 25:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/594/rekhan25enraged.jpg/
.
Afterwards, I did a try, killed him 2-man at 25 with a holy paladin friend, and he only used exorcism on the boss; (as even if hard in my gear, it is possible to survive everything solo till the enrage, just not enough dps) this was a big difference, killed the boss in around 6 mins 30 vs my most likely 12 mins or so if he hadn't enraged at 10 mins; also retri aura, as it's just a dps race.
First minute of fight:

Boss dead:

Dps done for anub 25, most likely with even 2-3k more dps I could be able to solo it:

And at last soloed at 25, still full dps gear 392, but this time replaced my 397 pvp weapon with gurthalak raid finder, so this also needs an attempt with some decent tentacle luck.
I gave him many tries, sometimes I had problems and died to locust swarm, but on my first decent attempt I got him to 34k (he had 400k, a tentacle spawned, locust swarm in few sec, but also the enrage was close, if I had kited the swarm, then he would've done 25-30k hits and also very fast, so I nuked him with ams, ams ended at 34k, the second I died of locust swarm he became red, enraged), also using a +300 strength flask and a golemblood potion of +1.200 strength for 25 seconds.
So I tried again, also used +90 strength and stamina food, the flask ended after 5 mins in the fight, lol, forgot to use a new one, still made it, I took an incredible risk getting as much dps as possible on him, survivability was very hard on locust swarm, but killed him in around 9 mins 19 vs 10 mins enrage.
First screenshot, during the first quiet moment I had, boss under 50%:

Other 3 in which I thought "this time he's dead":

And at last he died:

Very challenging and unforgiving fight in my gear, needs to find the right balance between dpsing and surviving, good luck to everyone trying (26k dps done this time; was enough).

Paladin (Argeltal on Illidan) - soloed 10 Man as a Prot/Ret gear mix, with prot spec. ilvl is 393, got expertise dodge cap and 8% hit cap, 2PC t13 tank and dps sets both.
Could probably solo this as ret with maximum healing spec / glyphs. Biggest damage dealer is falling dmg from Impale. For whatever reason, running around the edge of the area did nothing to keep the Locust Swarm off of me. I suggest running straight away from him, then when you run out of room, hit DR CDs before you get silenced.
Also, Seal of Insight combined with WoG was enough to heal me to full, over time.

Hunter Solo Guide/Advice
Incredibly easy solo, basically a free 125~g + 2 Abyss Crystals. Even though it's easy be sure to take a tenacity pet and spec into everything tanklike in the talent tree. Also, Glyph of Misdirection and Glyph of Mend Pet are a must. MD the Crypt Guards to your pet and just multishot/explosive trap the Corpse Scarabs, when they get to you, feign and then get up and finish them off when they're all stacked up on your pet.
Make sure you're positioned as far away from your pet/anub as you can as you don't want to take any damage from the Scarab Swarm when he start's casting it. Being an engineer also helps alot on this fight as you can negate alot of fall damage by using your parachute cloak, though, non engineers can try getting lucky with a noggenfogger elixir. Disengage also works if you use it just before you hit the floor as it resets your fall timer!
Here's a link to a video I made to help fellow hunter soloers, that little bit more:

Not sure why I am posting this but I am sure some will still find it handy even though Naxx is now 2 expansions ago.
Easy solo'ed as a 474 enh shaman. Just burn him down. Simple as that.
***Correction, 456 enh shaman --- forgot to take off the kirin tor ring. lol

I'm having a little error when I kill him, the back door wont open. I think it might be because I killed him before the first locust swarm, which I didn't do on my priest, and it worked fine. At this point even after zoning out, the curtain behind him remains closed, two weeks running.

It seems that Spinning Crane Kick bypasses the silence of Locust Swarm, makes this even easier to solo as a monk.

Easy for pallies at 90... watch out for Locust Swarm and heal through fall damage after Impale. Otherwise super-easy.

There was me, that is Alex, and this time my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim stayed at home. Refreshed with milk-plus from my chorosny korova milk bar I wuz preparé for some ultra violence.
Looked in my qbook and saw a weekly quest for this boss so I decide give a try. After several wipes in blood spec I have realized that the key is burn him down before he casts dat damn silence ability. So switched to frost, drank another milk plus and used some krazy instrument called drumy of rage, given me by my lunatic droog Dip for "rly special occasion" I smak him down after 54 seconds,.
it was happened to Alex, level 80 dk, currently 333 IL and 10 man normal mode
edit:
after dat, i ran out da instance and switch to 25 mode , wanted to try the last twos
saphirrron down after 12 minutes and 31 seconds, it was eazy but long fight, every 1-1,5 million hps down he lifted off and freeze me for while again and again, then just running around him in circle to avoid falling ice stuff and it was done, now going to face the final evil kelthuzad
