Lorthalium becomes hostile after a Frayfeather hatchling rides on your shoulder. It drops a Spectral Feather which extends the hatchlings duration on your shoulder from one day to five.

During the Hatching of the Hippogryphs micro-event on February 23rd, go to the Frayfeather Highlands in Feralas. Get a Frayfeather Hatchling to ride on your shoulder by incubating an egg. Once you do, Lorthalium will turn hostile. Kill her and loot a Spectral Feather to extend the duration your hatchling stays with you from 1 day to 5 days.

The rare also has a faction specific tag, and is limited to 5 tags at once.

There's a lot of competition for the kill on this, and it's not an everyone gets loot kind of thing. Your best bet is to join a raid that's killing it. Then as long as the raid tags it, you will hopefully be able to get a feather.

Buff will disappear if you join any BG or arena. So don't waste this item as I have done.

Go to the SW corner of Feralis. Find an egg and stand in front of it until it hatches. You will have a buff when it does. Find the rare at 55,74. Make a macro;

/tar Lorth
/cast **** (whatever instant cast spell you have)

Kill mob. I got the feather that extend the baby hippogryph buff for five days, not sure if it is guaranteed drop. Good luck!

The 幽灵之羽 she drops is unique, and you can therefore only carry one in your bag.
While I can't confirm it as of yet, I think you can maximize the time you have your hatchling if you use your first feather, then get a second one to use when the buff is about to wear off.

Only 5 people can tag it; whether this mixes faction or not I'm unsure of.

Make a macro,
/tar Lorthalium
/cast some-instant-ranged-spell
and spam it until it spawns.

Note: You must hatch an egg first before she becomes attackable. Go to a nearby nest and warm up an egg by being near it. You'll get little messages in the chat if you're doing it right.

I wonder if Lorthalium will be tamable next year once Hunters can tame hybrids. She is listed as a Beast, so it's possible.

As this boss seems to be faction tag only, I think its really crappy move by blizz. On my realm I see a giant raid grp spam tagging the boss just so others cannot. Blizz should have made this boss taggable by anyone to keep with the fun level and not one of frustration.

This is a decent way to get some XP on an alt if you are multitasking throughout the day. I'm eating dinner and shooting him about every 3-5 minutes. At level 100 I'm getting about a bar of xp per kill.

Two things to keep in mind: regardless of whether or not Lorthalium is being tanked by someone in the group, he will periodically ignore aggro and attack other members of the group (3 of us in mine) and...even more fun - he sticks you with some invisible (not indicated anywhere on my screen) debuff (called Grievous Wound) that continues to damage you (in my case, 5 or 6 repeating clicks of 45,840 each) even if you're not close to him. You can outrun him when he flies at you but you need to watch for when he starts to do that. We had a Feral, a Pally & a Shaman and it took us about 7 minutes.

It took me a while to figure out where to click to pick up the loot but it's there - just keep looking for the right spot. You can't just click anywhere on the corpse; it's close to his head.

Edit: Later did the same fight with my 100 Prot but many others to help, so it was really easy. The kill was worth about 15K XP in addition to the feather. Not bad at all.

Just a heads up, her Grievous Wound hit for over 30 million on my 934 geared WW monk. I think that's a bit more than she did last year.

Sadly, Lorthalium is not tameable again this year 2021. I also can NOT solo her as a iLvl 200 BM Hunter.
