This guy really tore me a new one as a level 9 rogue. It's nearly impossible to survive anything past 1 maybe two mobs at this level without heirlooms..

As TiredSloth said, this guy is an INCREDIBLE pain in the ass for level 9 rogue. To make it less painfull for those withour heirlooms, here is a short guide.

How To Solo Hammerspine As A Level 9 Rogue (1 man)

Before the fight:

BE SURE you have cleared the corridor leading to Hammerspine of mobs. It is a must if you want this tactic to work. Also, you should eat Beer Basted Boar Ribs, provided by an earlier quest. Check your weapons - if you have similiar dagger to another kind of weapon, use your dagger.

Phase 1)

Hammerspine hits quite hard and its a quite RNG fight. To survive it you may use Evasion (I did not, class trainer was too far away). Boss hits for about 15 damage, and on this level it does hurt. Start with Ambush and start stacking combo points - you want to have 5 before P2. Be careful not to pull a Trogg sleeping nearby.

Phase 2)

Hammerspine enrages and DOES hit hard. You dont want to risk your life here. Run away as fast as you can. Jump off the plateau where your fighting him, he will have a slightly longer way to reach you. Kiting is easy if you had cleared all mobs there. Otherwise its a spirit corpse run. If you see his enrage is gone, use Eviscerate at once. If hes not dead yet he will be soon - or you will.

He's inside the cave at the Quarry, in the very back on a platform overlooking the frozen lake.. If your doing him for xp then it's worth it to pick up the four quests in the cave as well. You'll have to kill stuff to get to him anyway, might as well get bonus xp for it.

Clear the two mobs before you pull him because otherwise you'll have three mobs on you when he does his special move. The special move does triple damage about four times in a row. With full heirlooms this can easily kill you if your not prepared for it.

He gave 1900 xp (and level 10 ding) for my priest in full heirlooms and a green with +1 intel.

I happened upon this guy while flying to the NPC that you can buy the snowshoe rabbit pet from to add to my collection...I flew all around that stupid rock and couldn't find a way in or out. ._.

In the mine, at 54,40.

The location shown implies that he is above ground in Dun Morough. He is actually directly below that location, and can be found deep in the Gol'Bolar Quarry Mine. One you enter the mine, you get new coordinates, and you should find him at 54, 50 (Go down to the right and wrap back up a bit).

Hammerspine used to be level 12 prior to Cataclysm and was demoted to level 9 when Cataclysm went live.

Respawn time is now in the 15-30 minute range. I killed him, sat there for 15 minutes, he wasn't up yet. Went and ate some food, came back 15 minutes later and he was up.

The coords he is at is /way 55.51 39.17

The cave entrance is /way 77.74 55.08

At /way 37.11 55.84 drop down and circle right. Use target Hammerspine to see if he is there or not and mark him.

If you can't find him inside the cave--go way down the tunnels to the right. It's NOT the ramp that goes up with the hole above it--it's another ramp that heads up after that, sort of hidden around the corner to the right.
