We have a special guest article by Hidden Azeroth on how to put together the perfect Pirate Transmog! You may remember Hidden Azeroth from
The (almost) Complete History of World of Warcraft in 23 Minutes.
Ahoy, ye landlubber!
Do you wish every day of the year was Pirate's Day? Do dreams of plunder and grog fill your head? Do you just want a really good Hallow's End costume?
Than this guide is for you!
I've spent years perfecting my pirate transmog, and to celebrate
Pirates Day
I'm here to share that knowledge with aspiring cutthroats around Azeroth! Rest assured, by the end of this article, you'll be among the fiercest swashbucklers ever to sail the South Seas.
The first part of any good pirate outfit is, of course, the outfit!
If you want to start raiding galleons, you need to make sure you've got the armor for it.
I've laid out three rules to keep in mind when assembling your pirate transmog.
Keep it simple
: Pirates dress light. Try to pick plain pants, a loose shirt, capped boots, and a buckled belt as a base.
Spruce it up
: Stand out from the regular deckhands by adding some layers. Thin vests, gloves, and 3D belts all help an outfit pop!
Add a hat
: Every pirate needs a good headpiece! An eyepatch, admiral's hat, or headband are all good options.
I've assembled one basic pirate set for each gear type.
If you're really new to transmog, this can serve as a good jumping-off point for you, but remember to look through the appearance tab too, you might see something you like!
Note, the swashbucklers shirt is bugged in the model viewer. In-game the sleeves puff out around the cuffs.

There's also some great cosmetic items you can use in any outfit!

You can't cross steel without steel to cross!
Now it's time to choose your weapons! Luckily, every weapon type has at least one good pirate weapon, so every class can join in on some good-hearted murder!
I'm also listing the Dreadblades for outlaw rogues because they are the quintessential pirate weapon.
Freeport Falchion
Daelin Proudmoore's Saber
Revilgaz's Cutlass
Bloody Tideturner
Excavator's Brand
Tremendous Tankard O' Terror
Broken Silversnap Bottle
Direbrew's Shanker
Mutineer's Fate
Reinforced Thunderstrike
Stagheart Staff
Teriffic Tankard O' Terror

No pirate is complete without their feathery friend.
Now there are a lot of parrots in game, but only one (
well, two
) can perch on your shoulder!
Crackers
and
Cap'n Crackers
.
To get crackers you're going to need a level 110 rogue (45 after the squish) to do the rogue order hall campaign. Once you've unlocked the Broken Shore pick up
The Pirate's Bay
from
Lord Jorach Ravenholdt
. This starts a quest chain that eventually leads to
Fit For a Pirate
, where Crackers decides that you're a better pirate than his current owner,
Fleet Admiral Tethys
, and joins you.
Once you've learned him as a pet you can summon him on any character, target him, and do a /whistle to have him perch on your shoulder. Plus you can summon another pet once he's perched!
But what if I don't have a rogue?
Then you've got three options.
Level a rogue or use your Shadowlands boost.
Be a lame parrotless pirate.
Get
Cap'n Crackers
.
How do I get
Cap'n Crackers
?
Give Blizzard $10.
Darn.
Yep.
Also it's worth noting, you can't have
Crackers
and
Cap'n Crackers
summoned at the same time, so choose wisely.
It's time to choose another pet, because pirates are basically boat-hunters!
Now that you have
Crackers
or
Cap'n Crackers
perched on your shoulder, you've got another spot available on your crew. Much like when you picked out armor, there are a ton of options available to you, so I'll showcase a few of my favorites while encouraging you to search through the pet journal to see the rest!
Pocket Cannon
Captain Nibs
Scuttle
Parrot Cage (Green Wing Macaw)
"
Aww, but I wanted a
full-sized
cannon!
"
Well you're in luck! Allow me to introduce
Whizzig
! He's a rare spawn vendor on the
Timeless Isle
that sells
Magical Pet Biscuits
in exchange for
Timeless Coins
! He randomly appears somewhere in the square below.
The coins are pretty easy to farm by killing elite enemies around the isle, and an hour of farming will net you enough
Magical Pet Biscuits
to keep your cannon large enough to sink an enemy dreadnaught for
months
!
No pirate is complete without their own personal hoard of booty.
You can't call yourself a true scallywag until you have a personal stash of gold and gems to flash at passersby. And while the 15 million gold you made flipping BOE's on the auction house certainly constitutes a hoard, it's pretty hard to flaunt, and the
Brutosaur
doesn't really fit the pirate aesthetic anyway.
Luckily, there's
Black Ice
!
And what's better, it's actually pretty easy to get! All you have to do is...
Head to
Zul'Gurub
.
Pick up
Booty Bay's Interests
from
Overseer Blingblang
.
Kill four bosses around the dungeon.
Kill
Jin'Do the Godbreaker
and loot his body.
Go back to the start, turn in
Booty Bay's Interests
, and pick up
A Shiny Reward
.
Head to Janerio's Point by
Booty Bay
.
Open the chest, turn in
Booty Bay's Interests
, and receive
Black Ice
!
Flaunt your newfound wealth on inferior landlubbers.
The Brutosaur may be cool, but can you use it indoors?
I didn't think so.
Alternatively, you can also just buy the
Eternal Black Diamond Ring
from
Haris Pilton
for 5,000 Gold. Sadly, the two rings are identical so you can't use them together.
You're certainly starting to look the part, but you can't call yourself a true Salty Dog until you hoist the Skull and Bones!
To hoist the black, you're going to need to buy a
Jolly Roger
from
Edward Techt
, who only appears in-game on Pirates Day. Luckily that's today! (Unless you aren't reading this on the day I posted it, in which case he'll be back next September 19th). Also it's only 1 gold, what a bargain!
But there's a catch.
Edward will only sell it to
Bloodsail Admirals
.
"
So how do I become a Bloodsail Admiral!?
" you frantically cry as the end of Pirate's Day ticks ever closer.
Well I've got good news and bad news. The good news is, it's doable. The bad news is, you're in for a grind. You're going to need to get the achievement
Avast, Ye Admiral!
, which requires you to be friendly with the
Bloodsail Buccaneers
and hated with
Booty Bay
. Do this by pulling up Booty Bay in your reputation tab, selecting "Declare War", and slaughtering
Booty Bay Bruisers
for several hours. The rate-limiting factor to decide how many guards you have to kill is going to be your current Booty Bay reputation, so I can't give you a concrete number. But it's pretty quick if you group up with some friends (
no more than 5
) and go to town.
Once you're friendly with the Bloodsail Buccaneers and hated by Booty Bay, you're ready for the fun part!
Fly over to see
"Pretty Boy" Duncan
and pick up
Avast Ye, Scallywag
.
Go over one ship and turn the quest in to
Fleet Master Firallon
.
Pick up
Avast Ye, Admiral!
(the quest, not the achievement).
Fly back to booty bay and kill
Baron Revilgaz
and
Fleet Master Seahorn
.
Return to
Fleet Master Firallon
and turn in the quest.
Congratulations, you're now a
Bloodsail Admiral
!
Assuming it's still
Pirate's Day
, fly back to
Edward Techt
and buy your
Jolly Roger
.
As an added bonus, you also get an transmogable cosmetic
Bloodsail Admiral's Hat
!
(It looked a lot cooler before we got all the new ones)
You've drawn your swords, called your parrot, flashed your bling, and raised the black; there's only one more thing you need to call yourself a Salty Dog.
It's time to get your trusty mount!
A pirate is only as good as his trusty steed. Wait, nevermind, that's knights. Either way you deserve to arrive to your plunderings in style, and there's four spectacular pirate mounts ready to get you there! You can choose between two parrots, a flying boat, and a crab.
Squawks
Sharkbait's Favorite Crackers
The Dreadwake
Snapback Scuttler
Squawks
is randomly rewarded from completing Island Expeditions, he also has a chance to drop from
Rotting Mire Salvage
(12%) and
Crestfall Salvage
(4%), which are sold by
Captain Kitt
and
Captain Nightrunner
for 175
Seafarers Doubloon's
.
Sharkbait's Favorite Crackers
has a 1% chance to drop from
Harlan Sweete
in Mythic
Freehold
, and a small chance to be contained in a Mythic+ Freehold Chest.
The Dreadwake
is a $25 Blizzard Store mount.
Snapback Scuttler
is a reward for completing
Undersea Usurper
, which requires you to complete a large number of zone events in Naz'jatar. Be advised that this mount will take a
minimum
of three months to get.
Personally, I'm a sucker for a giant parrot (
and have the 182 Mythic+ Freehold runs to prove it
), but any of these will serve as the pièce de résistance to your magnificient pirate ensemble.
And with that, you're finally ready to call yourself an official Salty Dog! Congratulations! I look forward to encountering your flag on the high seas, and remember, the real treasure is the friends we made along the way...
I'm kidding of course, it's mountains of gold!
