The Night Elf heritage armor questline is now available on live servers in Patch 10.1.7, so we've played through to find out what happens and earn the Kaldorei Protector's Adornment and extra rewards!
Warning: Major Questline Story Spoilers within!
The Clarion Call
The questline starts with
The Clarion Call
, which is a message from Arko'narin Starshade, summoning the player to the Stormwind Embassy, as Maiev has requested for us, as Tyrande has called the Wardens to action in Felwood.
Ancient Curses
In
Ancient Curses
we learn that the call is about a resurgence of demonic corruption in Felwood. Tyrande sent a contingent of Sentinels to investigate, but none of them returned, so she asked for Maiev's help, which asked for the player's assistance personally.
There we also meet Maiev's assistance during this mission, the siblings Arko'narin Starshade and Lysander Starshade. At first glance, we already have questions about Arko'narin, noting that she has a Sword for a weapon, instead of a Glaive like other Wardens. When we ask her about it, she tells us that the sword is a memento.
This... does not belong to me. It belonged to a dear friend of mine, Trey Lightforge.
Trey and I were investigating the resurgence of the Shadow Council when we were captured in Jaedenar. I... heard what these foul demons did to him from my cell. He did not survive.
I still miss him every day. But carrying his blade... I feel as though Trey is never far from me. He may have passed on, but Lightforge will always have my back.
After accepting the quest, we listen to the siblings talking about the mission.
Arko'narin Starshade: All that pacing is making me nervous, brother.
Lysander Starshade: Nari... I do not know if I am ready for this.
Arko'narin Starshade: You're the one always telling me to be strong in the face of adversity, Lysander.
Arko'narin Starshade: I don't have time to sit here and reassure you.
Lysander Starshade: I wasn't asking for --I'll... I'll be fine.
Arko'narin Starshade: Let's go.
Arko'narin Starshade: Meet us in Felwood, champion. We will be waiting for you there.
Arriving in Felwood, we find Maiev inspecting a Kaldorei corpse, a Priestess of the moon named Kaylessa Duskwhisper.
Maiev Shadowsong: Another Lost, when we've lost so many already.
Arko'narin Starshade: Did she... fall like the others?
Maiev Shadowsong: Yes. The trail leads to here. The moonwell nearby has been tainted by a foul corruption. Arko'narin, champion, I'll need your assistance to clear the area.
Maiev Shadowsong: And you as well, mage.
...
Maiev Shadowsong: May Elune welcome you into her embrace, sister.
This is a good time to highlight, but Lysander is a Kaldorei Mage. Historically, Maiev has a distaste for arcane users, so she is not too happy to be working with one.
A Grim Portent
With
A Grim Portent
, we learn from Maiev that Tyrande had sent Kaylessa to Felwood to cleanse the moonwell in the region to help fight the corruption, in order to aid the Kaldorei in reclaiming Felwood back to their territory. Our mission here is to finish what Kaylessa started and cleanse the moonwell. Also, she tells us that Arko'narin has a history with Jaedenar and she will let her tell us about it.
Lysander Starshade: This is it? Where Mother slept? I thought it would be...
Arko'narin Starshade: Nicer? There's a reason she and Father wouldn't let you come here, brother. This place was already far gone by the time you were born.
Arko'narin Starshade: Like everything else, I suppose.
Lysander Starshade: Nari, don't. We can fix this., This place reeks of foul magic--like it has been overrun--
Maiev Shadowsong: This place is riddled with satyr. You need not to meddle with the arcane to see it. Simply open your eyes and look.
Countering Corruption & Mercy or Misery
Now we have two quests
Countering Corruption
and
Mercy or Misery
. From the first one, we receive an arcane book from Lysander to cleanse the corpse of Satyrs, while the second one has us aiding Arko'narin by eliminating Satyrs or Cultists in the area. We learn more about Jaedenar from Arko'narin as well, their family used to live there long ago, before the corruption of Felwood. She tells us that even after the horrors of Teldrassil, her brother still tries to do everything he can to help others.
Maiev Shadowsong: Arko'narin, bring your mage and come with me.
Maiev Shadowsong: Meet us at the entrance to Shadow Hold after you've finished here, champion.
Arko'narin Starshade: Of course, Warden.
Lysander Starshade: Right behind you, Ma... Warden.
When cleansing the Satyrs, we learn that they were former Sentinels, corrupted to become Satyr by the cultists.
When finishing the quest, Lysander has a dialogue about his sister always seeing him as a child, despite his age, and that he is not blind to the problems that plague the Kaldorei, which is why he will not fail his people. We then ask him his age, which he reveals to be very young, born right after the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
Stepping into the Shadows
In
Stepping into the Shadows
, we enter Shadow Hold with the help of Maiev. Maiev casts
守望者的警戒
to shroud us against the demons as we go deeper into the den. Our mission here is to cleanse Felflame Braziers and discover what lurks in the depths of Shadow Hold.
Maiev Shadowsong: Stay close and be silent, .
Maiev Shadowsong: I will shroud us from their eyes.
Maiev Shadowsong: Arko'narin, mage, stay with our champion.
Arko'narin Starshade: As you command, Warden.
As we go down, we learn more about Shadow Hold
Lysander Starshade: Are you all right, Nari?
Arko'narin Starshade: Yes. I just... I remember this place well.
Lysander Starshade: I'm sorry it's been spoiled for you. Mother loved it here, didn't she?
Arko'narin Starshade: It's not... It's fine, Lysander. Let's just go
Maiev Shadowsong: Keep your eyes sharp, Arko'narin.
...
Maiev Shadowsong: Is this where they held you?
Arko'narin Starshade: Yes. Over there... in those cages.
Lysander Starshade: Wait-- Nari, this is where you were captured? I didn't know--we never should have come back here.
Maiev Shadowsong: I have felt the walls of confinement close in as well, Ark'narin.
Maiev Shadowsong: But you are free, now. Your path is your own. That it led you to the wardens is a boon to the Kaldorei, and to me.
Arko'narin Starshade: Thank you, Warden, that means a lot.
...
Lysander Starshade: Nari... I'm sorry. Why didn't you tell me what this place really was?
Arko'narin Starshade: Because I do not need you worrying over me. Come on.
Lysander Starshade: ... let's go, champion.
...
Lysander Starshade: Warden... do you have any siblings?
Maiev Shadowsong: Have you not heard of Jarod Shadowsong?
Lysander Starshade: My apologies, history was never my strongest subject.
Maiev Shadowsong: Do not apologize. There were many days where I suspect he would have appreciated being forgotten.
Maiev Shadowsong: He was not as... outspoken as you. Nor was he keen to lead. But lead us he did--to victory. Long ago.
Maiev Shadowsong: Hush now. We have found our prey.
A Glimpse of Terror
In
A Glimpse of Terror
we discover that Cultist Nethos is the one behind this invasion. As we approach him, we discover who's truly behind it.
Maiev Shadowsong: Steel yourselves. We end this here.
Lysander Starshade: I cannot fail. Not today.
Lord Hel'nurath: What's this? The vaunted Wardens have paid me a visit.
Lord Hel'nurath: And the illustrious Maiev Shadowsong herself! I'm honored!
Lord Hel'nurath: I supposed you and these champions have come to stop me. How.. quaint.
Lord Hel'nurath: Such a pity I could not turn Kaylessa before my minions killed her.
Lord Hel'nurath: But that is all your kind are good for, is it not? Dropping like flies.
Maiev is enraged by Hel'nurath turning her kin into Satyr and vows to have his head.
Balancing the Scales & Heart of the Issue
In
Balancing the Scales
Maiev tasks us to cleanse the Shadow Hold from demon filth by exterminating them all. In
Heart of the Issue
, Lysander mentions that he knew fel magic was dangerous, but what Hel'nurath has done with it, is an affront to everything the Kaldorei stand for. He reflects on how much have the demons tainted, their culture, his family, and even his own kin. He decides to look for where the demons are coming from and disrupt their access to the Shadow Hold.
Maiev Shadowsong: Champion, Arko'narin and I will find Lord Hel'nurath. Take the ma... take Lysander with you. Put an end to the demon's minions. Meet us after you have finished.
Maiev Shadowsong: Your end draws near, demon. You know it as well, I can hear it in your voice.
Lysander Starshade: I am sorry, my friend. I did not realize what this place really was.
Lysander Starshade: Long ago, these were barrow dens. My mother used to rest here when she was called to the Emerald Deam.
Lysander Starshade: This must be why my sister came here with her friend, Trey. To fix this place for my mother and my family.
Lysander Starshade: My parents told me she was captured. But they were certain she'd return home.
Lysander Starshade: And she did. But the sparkle left her yes. I knew there were things they didn't tell me.
Lysander Starshade: Things she didn't tell me.
Lysander Starshade: I may be young, but I have tasted grief. You have, too. I can tell.
Lysander Starshade: Sometimes I feel like that's all Nari thinks we are worth. Mourning.
Lysander Starshade: We are more than that. My face bears the scars of our tragedies, but I am not broken.
Lysander Starshade: None of us are.
Lysander Starshade: We need each other. Now more than ever. I hope I can show her that, in time.
Lysander Starshade: I know you see it too. It's why you're here, isn't it? For yourself... and for all of us.
When turning the quest to Arko'narin, she tells us that she recognizes that her brother is determined... and brave.
Warden's Wrath
The next quest is
Warden's Wrath
, in which Arko'narin tells us that Hel'nurath's hubris gave them an opportunity to study what he is doing. She has a plan on how to stop him, but she will rely on her brother for it. Hel'nurath is protecting a lot of summoning portals, which can be disrupted.
We attack Hel'nurath, we must protect Lysander while he disrupts his ritual. As we finish it the following cinematic plays.
Arko'narin: Lysander, are you--
Lysander Starshade: Look... the moonwell!
Maiev Shadowsong: It is done.
Maiev Shadowsong: When Tyrande decreed that arcane practitioners would return to our numbers...
Maiev Shadowsong: I vehemently protested.
Lysander Starshade: You had every right to be wary, Warden.
Maiev Shadowsong: Yet today I have witnessed who you truly are...
Maiev Shadowsong: A strong, resilient defender of the Kaldorei.
Maiev Shadowsong: Should you wish it--your face will bear the mark of protector.
Lysander Starshade: I thought... men were not permitted such...
Maiev Shadowsong: Even sacred traditions should evolve, as should the Kaldorei.
Maiev Shadowsong: Come, Lysander.
Arko'narin Starshade: Go on!
A Mark for a Protector
The next quest is
A Mark for a Protector
, which shows the ceremony of Lysander receiving his markings. In the quest dialogue, Maiev talks about how traditions should not hold us back, they should inform the future. She recognizes that she has her own precognitions holding her back as well, but no more, she is tired of seeing rifts between her kin, regardless of what they use to better themselves or the world. She finally talks about Lysander's new markings, saying how traditions should adapt to their lives and not define them.
Lysander Ceremony
Maiev Shadowsong: Let the waters cleanse your sprit, as we have cleansed the well.
Maiev Shadowsong: Lotus petals bloom, granting color to your mark--just as your purpose blooms within you.
Maiev Shadowsong: A needle of Briarthorn to bear the ink to skin--just as you bear the charge you carry.
Maiev Shadowsong: Bruiseweed, to numb the pain--
Lysander Starshade:--I do not need it.
Maiev Shadowsong: The world gifts us with means to move beyond this pain. You prove nothing by choosing to dwell in it.
Lysander Starshade: I... understand, Warden.
Maiev Shadowsong: Maiev.
Lysander Starshade nods.
Maiev Shadowsong: It is done. Rise, Lysander.
Arko'narin Starshade: Mother and father would be proud... as am I.
Lysander Starshade: Than you, Nari.
Lysander Starshade: Let's head back to Stormwind.
Back at the Stormwind Embassy, we turn the quest to Lysander, where he reminisces about the meaning of his new markings
The ink on my skin is a tether between worlds--between the present I live in and the past my kin have walked astride. Their triumphs, their sorrows.
I will not let them forget what it is to be Kaldorei--a child of the stars. A wanderer beneath the firmament.
And I will protect their travels no matter what stands in our way. My journey has just begun, , but I will never forget the place you have taken in it.
Honor the Goddess
The final quest of the questline is
Honor the Goddess
.
Today is a day of celebration, . And a day of new beginnings.
Arko'narin and Lysander have reminded me that the Kaldorei are no strangers to change. I forget, sometimes, how long I was away, and just how much my kin have progressed in my absence.
<Maiev looks up to the sky>
Lysander celebrates this day, but your service also deserves to be recognized. Come, .
Maiev Shadowsong: Champion... despite all we have been through, your devotion to your people has never wavered.
Maiev Shadowsong: You carry the honor of the goddess with you, and you should carry the name as well.
Maiev Shadowsong: Ama'shan
Maiev Shadowsong: May Elune guide you--and may your path continue to inspire us all.
Questline Rewards
We then receive the rewards for completing the questline:
New Title: Ama'shan
Transmog:
Ensemble: Kaldorei Protector's Adornment
and the Weapon Transmog:
Traditionalist's Kaldorei Blades
Post Questline Mail
After completing the questline, we receive a mail from Tyrande, which reads
,
Maiev told me of her mission's success--and your aid.
Never forget, you are more than a defender. Your presence serves as an inspiration to those around you, bringing our people together. It is this that marks you as the most honored of Elune. And it is for this that you will always be treasured.
Maiev is right. We cannot stand forever in the traditions of old. We must continue to evolve, as the world evolves around us.
To that end, she recommended Lysander as a potential recruit for the Sentinels. I am reaching out to him to offer the position myself. If our Warden sees such promise in him, he must be someone special.
After all, she saw the same promise in you.
Rest well, Ama'shan.
