many adjustments throughout Legion
, and another one is on the way on the 7.3 PTR.

have noticed that the cap is extended beyond 40 on the PTR (the data shows it scaling up to 50). Instead of completing Work Orders, you will automatically gain one level per week.
We tested this on the PTR and it appears all characters on the PTR, even those without maxed out traits or Artifact Knowledge previously, have been set to 41 on the PTR. While at first this seems like it may be for testing purposes, it could actually be intended as a new catch-up mechanism.
All of the Artifact Compendium books, such as

, are now marked as obsolete in the 7.3 data--so the old method for alts to reach AK 40 quickly is removed and another catch-up mechanism must take its place.
There's a new form of Artifact Progression in Patch 7.3--relic customization via the Netherlight Crucible, and even a related legendary

--so it makes sense Blizzard wants players to focus on the current content instead of having to worry about Work Order timing and low Knowledge.
