Watch out, the commendations count towards the weekly valor cap, so don't use them if you're on the cap already (or expect to hit it this week). Using them on the cap will just waste them.

Just in case you were wondering, you can't get away with being clever on this and sending it to an alt or selling it to another player. The bag itself doesn't bind, but the item inside disappears if it is transferred to another player. The duration of the commendation doesn't change while it's inside the bag though, so you can keep it in your bags until you want to use it, after the valor reset, for instance. It might be possible to store them in your bank indefinitely (the bags, that is), but I'm going to have to wait until next time to find out.

Update (thanks Sangnoir): It appears that they may be able to be transferred to your alts who have participated in the race recently. They will receive the award that they got for their last race.

If you are capped on honor, you will not be able to use the commendations as intended. However, it will still grant you Valor if used. If you are capped on honor, you can simply go to the level 60 pvp item vendor, purchase an item, use the commendation, earn Valor, return the pvp item.

If you are valor capped DO NOT open the bag! The item has a duration but the bag itself DOES NOT just keep the Bag until Valor resets on Tuesday :-)

If you do not get first place in the quest and keep hold of the bag. The next time you get first place use it at the same time and you get the 1st place reward.

From what I've observed, this bag contains all six commendations, but only one is visible depending on what 1-hour buff you have from placing in the race. I'd test whether opening it with the buff missing yields nothing, even on the character that won/placed in the race... but I need the VP. :)

You can get second virtually with your eyes closed and from a valor point of view 1st and 2nd appear to be the same which seemed odd to me.

On 6.0.2, where Valor Points allegedly no longer exist, the item in the bag still does indeed award valor.

I'm sitting on 15 newly awarded points—and apparently nothing to ever spend them on again.

This bag seems to be "fixed" as of 6.0.3: The rewards are now gray items with gold value.
