And here I just finished my BiS fishing outfit. Just the other week finally got the boots, so I have hat, glove enchant, boots, +40 rod with +5 line. All the best stuff you could want! Then they throw this at me...ah well, at least this won't be as hard to get as the rod or the boots or the +5 line...right...

I'm not sure if this item can be used for transmog, given it has no armour type, but it belongs to the same art set as Scouting Garb (Recolor). It's actually just a model variant on the 纹饰帽. So if you're after a leather version that can definitely be used for transmog, see that set.

How to gain Reputation:
Standing with Nat Pagle is gained by catching daily fish. 拟态章鱼 and 飞行虎皮丝足鱼 have a 1% droprate. 霸王刺皮鱼 on the other-hand has a 2% droprate. Just like real life, Best Friend status takes 84 fish hand-ins. This means it will take between 28 and 84 days depending on how many of the three fish you turn in each day. The daily fish cannot be caught from pools, only open water.

Once you have catch a daily fish you should stop fishing its water until you have delivered it to Nat Pagle. Each daily fish is unique, so you cannot catch another while you have the first in your inventory. You can however move to a new location and catch your next fish before handing all three in. Once a daily fish has been turned in, you may fish it up again, although you will not be able to hand the new fish in until the following day. This allows you to catch three fish hand them in, catch the three fish again so for the following day all you have to do is hand them in. This is useful if you have other things planed or you got lucky with today's catch and had some spare time.

1 x Lesser Charm of Good Fortune
5 x Valor Points
350 x The Anglers Reutation
500 x Nat Pagle Reutation

The Daily Fish:

拟态章鱼 - Caught from any of Pandaria's open coastal waters. Anglers Wharf is a good spot, after competing dailies or handing another daily fish.

* 刺皮鱼 infested water has unavoidable grey items, 光滑的鱼骨 and 亵渎的骨架. You can however catch 霸王刺皮鱼 with any of the unavoidable greys. Fishing skill below 625 in these areas will cause "Failed Casts" and produce any of the 8 common junk items (漂木, 空蚌壳, 病鱼, 纠结的鱼线, 破布, 破旧的船帆, 水草 and 干枯的海藻) and 5 uncommon junk items (空的郎姆酒瓶, 旧靴子, 石块, 树枝 and 淡水蜗牛). If you have the required "No-Junk" skill you will not catch any of the 13 junk items.

It may take sometime to see each fish, with a 1% drop rate, after fishing 200 fish there is only a 86.6% chance that you will have seen the daily fish. Just be patient and keep fishing. I have personally caught both the 霸王刺皮鱼 and 拟态章鱼 on the fist catch. I have also personally spent 5 hours fishing for 霸王刺皮鱼 until I finally got it, I actually started to think it was removed from the area I was in.

Okay, so here's the laydown as I see it:

That's with the best of everything available. Unfortunately, you need a mighty 825 to fish in Vale of Eternal Blossoms without catching junk. (That's assuming everything stacks, which it may well not.)

So am I completely out of my mind insofar as I'm missing something obvious, or does this hat make absolutely no difference in whether you are able to fish Pandaria's highest-level waters without catching junk?

Edit: Fixed glove link. And yes, thankyou, the spear was what I was missing.

Adding that, you can get 835, which is 10 more than you need, so theoretically you can fish in the Vale, but you will still get junk 3 out of every 5 minutes, unless you group and coordinate. (Or can you just buy multiple spears?)

For the insane grind this thing requires, it needs to do something more than just raise your fishing level (which is unneeded if you have the +40 pole, line, boots, and the old hat)

It really needs do something like dramatically increase your cast accuracy when casting into pools, or cut your average catch time in half.

The on-use for this item doesn't appear to work in the Dragonflight pre-patch, as fishing poles are no longer considered "equipped" when they're in the Fishing Rod slot in the Fishing Journal.
