The Wolfshead Helm can be a very powerful item when used right as a feral druid. And, when used in conjunction with the furor talent, can become even more useful. Although this item only requires level 40, many good feral druids keep it around into the 50's and even to 60.

When used with the Furor talent, this gives the user 60 energy upon shapeshift to catform or 15 rage in bearform. This gives a druid the opportunity to bash a target, shapshift to cat form and shred TWICE instead of just a single time. Furthermore, it gives the opportunity in bear form to both feral charge and then bash the target. Although this item is somewhat situational and with poor stats for feral standards, it can be one of the most useful helms in your inventory.

Has anyone else had this award More than 5 rage/20 energy, without Furor?

I have 0/0 Furor, and yet I generally get 7 or 10 rage when shifting to bear. 7 occurs more often, but sometimes I can shift to bear and demo roar immediately afterwards.. In the middle of town, with nothing hitting me.

If I manage to get 10 out of it, it usually starts off with 5, then bumps up to 10 a second later.

With cat, it awards 20 energy, and then the next energy tick is much faster than normal. So by the time the global cooldown from shifting is up, I have 40 energy.

In short, I'm loving this helm. :)

This item can be learned without having the Tribal Leatherworking specialty.

As a leatherworker with 230 skill, i just went to the Tribal LW trainer and learned it.
Since it doesn't require the specialty to use, I suggest all of you to go learn it when you reach the lvl required, if you are a Druid.

Confirmed they still have +10 spirit. It hasn't changed yet. When this helm gets changed into +10 agility; I'd imagine its value would increase. Excellent Druid head piece for the mats. I had one made today. It goes for about 40/50g on my AH, Horde side.

still technically best in slot for feral dps at 80. powershifting adds a lot of complexity to fights though so results may vary.

But the Thick Wolfhide was such a rare skinning drop that it was hard to obtain this item, so the mats where changed at patch 3.10.

Has anyone else considered this for level 80? I'm not talking actually *using* it - just putting it on, shifting, then putting your real helm on, then engaging. Yes, its a bit of work, but you can make a macro to do it. You'd only be able to use it before pulling, of course.

The "!" is there to powershift - if you're already in the form, it'll recast, breaking roots/slows/etc. Its like rebuffing a buff - if you've still got 17 minutes on Arcane Intellect and you recast it, it resets to 30 minutes. Normally you have to remove then recast forms - like right-clicking the buff then casting it. Too slow in PvP ;)

Other thoughts: if you had the Wolfshead Helm on for some reason and had this macro with /equipslot twice, you'd still end up with this helm on. Bad. Would this run while: a) you have it on? the first line won't work, as its already equipped, but will it continue? and b) if you're in combat, will it just say "cannot change gear in combat" and powershift you?

I wonder if it has to do with bear form (as in the text) vs DIRE bear form.
I'm not getting the rage on transform either.

Unfortunately, even with "show all spell levels" I *can't* shift to simple bear form to test.

I think that with the addition of Worgen to the game, there also needs to be a to balance things out.

This item seriously needs a "brother" for high levels. The Equip proc is too sexy for me to just ignore this item as just another relic of the past. Sure Embrace of the Lycan is pretty much the item right now, but that doesn't mean this item can't be scaled up.
