Easiest place I found to grind for these is the Den of Flame in Dustwallow Marsh. I averaged out to about 10 an hour or so. If your lucky, you can skin 2 of one corpse

If you are still not lvl50, i suggest two locations. Of course, if you're a skinner. 1st one is the Swamp Of Sorrows (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=742) and the 2nd one is Dustwallow Marsh (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=4329). I suggest the 2nd location since the skinning % was a bit higher than on 1st. I managed to get 11 pieces in less than 1 hour. But, on 1st location, you will get 10 pieces in approx. 2 hours or more but you will also get alot of Green Dragonscale (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=15412) used for Green Dragonscale Mail armor (if you are a Leatherworker that is).

Drop rate on these is very bad. As a lvl68 got 16 scales and 2 blues. It took me about an hour of farming. An hour to craft one item!? Now thats a bit extreme at this skill.

The best place I found to farm these was in SoS, the dragonkin there also drop green dragonscales, and you will see in other forums to ignore the elders and go straight for the captains, its untrue. I've got just as many worn scales of the elders as the captains. Also this is an easy farming ground theres tons of them, you won't have to wait on respawns. You can continually make circles and there won't be an issue of sitting around biding your time.

they must have nerfed the hell out of these drops because I tried grinding in dustwallow, 3 scales in an hour. Went to SoS, another 2 scales in an hour. The only good thing about this is I've skinned about 200 pieces of thick leather in the process.

Good luck grindin these, your gonna need it.

If you are high level, you should clear sunken temple, I got 10 @one run :) Those bigbossdragonguys drops 1-2 always

I just made a full circle around the Pool of Tears on my 72 Hunter (Skinner). It took me 14 minutes to kill and skin all the dragonkin in the area. I got:

40 Thick Leather
20 Heavy Leather
8 Worn Dragonscale
7 Green Dragonscale

It took me like 1hr. and 30minutes to finally get the 10 Worn Dragonscales i needed. It is a very easy and long quest. Perfect place is to rotate from the Den of Flame to Stonemaw ruins in Dustwallow Marsh.

Lvl 68 Hunter soloed ST and killed EVERY dragonkin in sight, not one drop. Farmed the Elder's in Sorrowmurk and found about 5 in an hour and a half. Den of Fire found a couple more. Not very good drops in either place really.

Just did a Sunken Temple run. Got two off of the dragonkin, and each of the drakes except Eranikus himself dropped at least one. Made out with nine altogether.

Yeah its confirmed. They nerfed the drop rate! I did like 10 circuits in 2 hours on my 53 Shaman and only got 10.

The best place I have found to farm this is at Mazthoril in winterspring, the dragonkin here are all elite at 54-56 bare in mind. but they drop alot of worn dragonscale and blue dragonscale, the other bonus is they also drop a decent amount of greens, and not forgetting the ton of rugged leather to be had here also, with 2 rugged leather skinned per mob, there is also the schematic for budding engineers that drops ONLY from the mageweavers in the area, which is pretty nice and sells for a decent amount of gold if lucky to get it. I have been going to this area to farm for some years now, I clear all the mobs (that includes the whelps) working my way outside the cave and eventually inside. once ive cleared all, i then do a short trip to the frozen lake and kill the wailing highborns for a chance at catching myself the icy chill enchant. Winterspring is a great place to farm.

Unfortunately, most of the dragons listed on here don't exist. The green dragons outside of Sunken Temple are gone, the green dragons around the Emerald Dream trees (where Ysondre, Taerar, Lethon, and Emeriss spawned) are gone. The blue dragons in Azshara and Winterspring are gone. Your best bet for these is to go in both Sunken Temple (which is mostly green dragons now) and Upper Blackrock Spire. I haven't tested it yet, but I would think the black dragonkin out in Burning Steppes could drop these when you skin them as well.

I have an old 60 NE hunter that I haven't played in years.

Did a FULL clear of UBRS/LBRS. I got a stack and half of Black Dragonscale. I got 4 Worn Dragonscale. I got one or two of each green, blue, and red dragonscale from the mob wave before the Warchief Rend.

So it would seem BRD is the best place now, despite the extremely low rate.

Am in Dustwallow Marsh now, and killed every last thing flying or vaguely dragonlike, and not a single one dropped. :( My single achievement for this misbegotten grind was that I made lower level player happy - he could just saunter in for his quest eggs.

I bought 5 on the AH just in case, and it looks like that may have been a good move. Can I just say, it is a lot less fun to spend all your time grinding just to go up a little. What's the point after all, if it's not built so you can enjoy some aspect of your work? And I do mean work. I'm tryin' to be a leatherworker, but the big B ain't makin' it easy.

Well, off to try the other two locations.

Upper Blackrock Spire 2.5 turns produced 13 worn, 34 black, 5 blue, 2 brilliant chromatic, 7 red, 8 green.

Thought I had time to skin between waves in the gladiator arena because they run all around the edges looking for you (in plain sight), but there is a time limit. If any of them disappear, you don't get to the other bosses.

Bosses and mobs near bosses seem to have more scales, plus at the father flame crystal, but any dragonkin can drop them.

Crummy drop for the effort I think, but I'm glad there's anything at all. Didn't get anything any in lower BRS, but maybe I didn't find the right area yet.

Scoured lower BRS, and found exactly one elite dragonkin crammed in a far corner, who dropped an epic carapace - that has become unusable in this version of wow. :(

Lots of rugged leather and skinning from worgs and silthids but no scales. Don't bother.

For some reason, no one seems to have noted that these still drop from the mobs INSIDE sunken temple dungeon. Just got a dozen by clearing the instance and skinning all I could.

I had to farm these for my shaman's legs and was surprised to only find 1 on the AH. After reading the comments here I decided to go to Sunken Temple to farm them with my druid. It definitely seems like the best spot but if you need ~10 you will need to do at least two runs (unless you get lucky).

After one full clear I got:
6x Worn Dragonscale
17x Green Dragonscale
30x Rugged Leather
25x Thick Leather

...and Embrace of the Wind Serpent dropped off the Avatar and me without a cloth class :(

Update: Second run wasn't as generous. Almost all skins were Green Dragonscale or one of the two types of leather. I got to the wing of the last boss with only 2x Worn Dragonscale and another dropped off a trash mob by the last boss and I was feeling really dejected about having to run it a third time, when lo and behold my last dragonscale was skinned off the boss himself. >:) Still brings the grand total of the second run to only 4, so this could easily be a 3-instance run for anyone who needs 10 scales like I did.

It looks like that as a 47 shammy I am pretty screwed about dragonscales. Where can I go to get them, can't solo ST.... back to farming the AH i guess.

Just to confirm that Sunken Temple is a good place for Worn Dragonscales despite the changes since WotLK.
You can shorten your time by avoiding the bosses and trolls if you wish, but you are still limited to the 5 runs an hour.

Patch 6.0.2 I farmed 17 Worn & 60 GreenD in 4 runs of dragonkin in the Temple of Atal Hakar dungeon. As of Patch 6.0.3, they did not drop ANY Green or Worn Dragonscale from skinning. Ran the place 4 x to make sure. Ironically, came away with 25 patterns which use GDS. Seems therefore your only chance of obtaining these is from Chromagnus in BWL, while the offer lasts.

Ran Sunken Temple 30 times in 4 days, not a dragon scale of any kind to be had by loot drop or skinning. Nothing but thick and rugged leather. After discussing this with my guild-mates, we are agreed the only place one can now pick up dragon scales is Northrend. It's like the spider silk issue for Horde, Blizzard broke it and never fixed it, and likely has no plans of fixing it since they only seem to care about end-game players.

Edit 6.2.0: Just ran Sunken Temple for the first time since 6.2 went live, three runs on a skinning toon yielded:

BUT not a single pattern dropped, whereas before you'd come out with at least two of each every run. Seems to be broken in the other direction now.

Edit 6.2.4: Skinned 112 x 火鬃斥候 in 尘泥沼泽, didn't get a single 破碎的龙鳞. From discussion with my guild-mates, I don't think 火鬃斥候 have dropped 破碎的龙鳞 during skinning since Cataclysm.

Have run ST 3 times since the pre-patch dropped and managed to get 10 WD and 4 GD on those runs so they are still dropping and it appears with slightly more frequency...

Plus lots of recipes (more than 5 every run), greens and blues, some junk.

Best place I found was Sunken Temple. I also found that instead or running the whole dungeon the best strategy is to just kill the mobs in the inner circle, port out, reset and start over.

As of patch 9.05 whatever LBRS is full of orcs and trolls. No green or worn scales dropped.
Sunken Temple 1 worn and 3 green in one run.

Notes up there mention a broken drop rate. AH has very few and are $$$ for when you need 30 green for one pattern. Dunno where these guys get em from.

Black wyrmkin in Burning Steppes also drop these. Drop rate is low but I have found a few while farming for thick and rugged leathers. Good spot for lower level horde to farm outside of the dungeons..

I didn’t feel like grinding Sunken Temple. I wanted the whelp pet, and decided to grind whelps in Badlands. You can skin soldiers there for scales. I got my pet when I was at about 30 scales. Few leatherworking levels later I got the pattern for green dragonscales, and ended up having to go to Sunken Temple. It took about 40 runs to get 80 green dragonscales, and I got about 100 worn dragonscales, which I didn’t need.
