These are randomly scattered around the designated quest area, They are separate to the spores that you plant for the other half of the quest. (Do not wait for your spores to grow!) It's also worth noting that Find Herbs will not show these up on the minimap.

You can find these little guys scattered by the undergrowth near the trees in the area. However, I make a habit of planting my seeds first, doing the other dailies, and coming back since your seeds DO grow into collectible truffles about five minutes after planting.
