since armor penetration is being removed as a general stat, this will be a VERY appealing trinket to warriors (single minded fury warriors may like it even more since they'l be using faster 1 handed swords axes and maces), as well as ret paladins. if the proc is frequent it may be the next greatness card for both classes, lasting well into cataclysm raid content. watch this space!

It looks more like something for people that don't raid frequently, or alts. If you raid, you will be replacing it during Tier 11 content.
T11 Strength trinkets:
Crushing Weight
(
Heroic
)
License to
Kill
Slay
Heart of Rage
(
Heroic
)
Fury of Angerforge
(
Heroic
)
Impatience of Youth
That's a lot of options for the first round of itemization, a much better situation than we had with the T7 trinkets. Even discounting Heroic versions the first two on that list are certainly better choices. Depending on how much your spec values the relevant stats, some of the others (and even some blues) will be good too--good enough to last you until you have your BiS.
I bought DMC:G a couple of months into Wrath and it lasted me until H-WFS. The lifespan of this is measurable in weeks, not months, and I don't see the AH prices on it going low enough to tempt me.

As of the time of this post, this is the best PRE-RAID trinket for Unholy Death Knights in Cataclysm (and likely for any class that values strength). As the above post mentions, you will replace this if you raid.

Here are two important pieces of information about this trinket, which means it's at least comparable to those from raid.
A test from EJ:
I did some preliminary testing today on Darkmoon Card: Hurricane, and found some interesting results. Test results were from a period of 5 minutes (multiple tests were done).
-With no gear and autoswings, proc rate was about once per minute (~5 procs / 300 seconds)
-With normal 2H DPS gear (main hand hit capped), proc rate was about twice per minute (~10 procs / 300 seconds)
-With normal 2H DPS gear (main hand hit capped) and a normal Arms rotation, proc rate went up to roughly 2.8 times per minute (~14 procs / 300 seconds)
-With normal TG DPS gear (main hand hit capped) and a normal Fury rotation, proc rate increased to roughly 4 times per minute (~20 procs / 300 seconds)
Right now, there seems to be no internal cooldown on the trinket. I even witnessed a double proc. Given that it also provides a passive 621+ AP, it seems like it's going to be good for Arms, even better for Fury. It seems to scale with hit and possibly even scale with haste, which is very interesting.
and
Trinket selectin:
Thus, trinket selection comes down to nothing more than picking the highest iLvl trinket you can get which has one of its stats as strength, and which then has the most desirable secondary stat for your spec. It doesn't terribly matter which is the proc/use and which is the passive stat (although it's somewhat better to have the secondary stat as the passive, for reforging purposes), nor does it matter much if the trinket is a proc or a use - as discussed, the difference between the two types is small enough to begin with, and nowhere near great enough to outweigh the difference in value between any two secondary stat choices (although, yes, if there are two trinkets with identical stats and ilvls, the proc is better than the use). Highest iLvl strength/whatever trinket. It truly is that simple.

Summary:
In trying to price these decks in response to another thread I did the following math based on my thousands of mills, results from three scribes who have spent about 200k total crafting cards, and WoWHead's data. On average completing one deck will cost over 20k; the best possible price, the very minimum from mats if you defied statistical odds and got the 8 cards you needed in a row, is about 15.2k. I would personally price these decks at 25k until herb prices fall by about 50%.
Details:
On my server (yes it of course varies server to server) Twilight Jasmine and Whiptail are consistently priced at about 10g each. The other lower quality Cata herbs go for at least 5-6g each and have
half the pigment/ink yield
as Whiptail and Twilight Jasmine. Volatile Life seems to vary but lately is usually right around 9-11g. By my math it takes about 8 stacks of Whiptail or Twilight Jasmine (trading the lower ink in for Inferno Ink in Dalaran) or 16 stacks of the other lower quality herbs (again, trading ink in to make Inferno Ink), plus 30 volatile life to make 1 random card. I get that 8/16 stack result assuming from my own personal data from several thousand mills that you get, on average, about 6 lower inks per 20 high quality herbs and about 1 Inferno ink per 20 high quality herbs (or, if you're using lower quality Cata herbs, 3 lower quality inks per 20 herbs and half an Inferno Ink). My data seems to match WoWHeads (see, e.g.,
this link
and
this link
).
So...
8 stacks of higher quality herbs = 10g each x 20 herbs per stack = 200/stack x 8 stacks = 1600g + (30 volatile life x10g each = 300g) so 1900g per card.
Similarly, 16 stacks of lower quality herbs = 5g x20 herbs per stack = 100g x 16 stacks = 1600g + (30 volatile life x10g each = 300g) so again, about 1900g per card.
It takes 8 cards, Ace through Eight of the same suit, to make 1 deck. That means that making 1 deck, even if you got all 8 cards you needed on the first 8 tries, would cost 15200g.
However, it's very very very unlikely that you would make 8 cards and get the 8 you needed. You're much more likely to get cards in other random suits, or even to get duplicates of what you already have in the suit of the deck you want.
Finally, even assuming that a given scribe can afford to invest, say, 60k to have a chance to make all 4 decks that scribe is unlikely to actually make 4 decks. He or she is more likely to instead complete a deck or two and have a host of duplicates. My friend has spend 70k using the same numbers I quoted above as the max price he'd pay for herbs and has only completed 1 deck - he has double, triples, even quadruples of many other cards. I know a second scribe that has spent 90k and completed 3 decks (but not the main one he wanted yet) and is 3 cards away from completing the deck he was trying to make and has several duplicates and triplicates of other deck cards (but still several cards away from making any more decks yet). So in other words, every Scribe making decks to use or sell takes a large risk that he or she won't finish the deck needed for a long time, requiring substantial additional investment (e.g. an additional 10-30k).
For me, the moral of this story is that since it costs at a minimum 15.2k worth of mats to make a deck, and it takes a very long time to make a deck since 15.2k worth of Inscription crafting mats don't usually appear in your hands overnight, 20k is the minimum price I expect these to go for. Scribes have to invest too much time, resources, and absorb too much risk for 20k to be the normal price. I think 25k-30k is more likely. But, that's a lot of gold. So even if they are worth 30k they could well end up at 25k just based on the fact that 30k is a pretty huge amount of gold for most players.
EDIT: As another use accurately and helpfully pointed out:
Low herbs : High herbs are really more like 1 : 1.6 inferno inks because of the numbers of Blackfallows made. Each stack of 20 low herbs gives, on average, half an Inferno ink and 5 Blackfallows. A stack of 20 high herbs gives, on average, 1 Inferno ink and 6 Blackfallows. Since Blackfallows convert to infernos at a rate of 10 to 1, you get 1 Inferno ink per stack of low herbs and 1.6 Inferno inks per stack of high herbs.
Buying low herbs at 5g a stack is going to be more efficient, in the long run, than buying high herbs at 10g a stack.
Vilecurses said something similar in response to this post, my thanks for that as well:
If you want to do a price comparison between the greater and lesser herbs all you need to do is divide the greater herb stack price by 1.6. If the amount is lower than the lesser herb price then the greater herb is the better buy and costing less to make a card.

Got this yesterday and when I later tanked some heroics I figured it would be fun to try it with my dps trinkets and I noticed something.
Some spells and abilities seem to have a much higher proc chance than normal melee/ranged attacks and other abilities.
For instance, Avenger Shield has a 100% chance to proc this trinket, so this trinket effectively adds another 5k to all of your Avenger Shields.
I haven't had the opportunity to try it out in Ret yet but who knows, maybe some of the ret attacks does the same thing.

Myself(ret pally) and a guildie(assassin rogue) both got this trinket over the weekend. And for our Valiona/Theralion 25man kill last night(6min42sec) I had 38 procs, highest crit was 12.6k, and contributed 4.4% to my overall damage. And the rogue had 18 procs, highest crit was 7.5k and contributed 1.8% to his overall damage.
I'm glad I got this.
And to any rets reading this who don't have it, go sell your Grandmothers and get it asap.

As good as your post was you have made an error in your working out of how many stacks are required to make one card.
Please see below for workings out.
1 Stack (20) lesser herbs = 4 Mills
@ 2-3 Ashen Pigment per mill (average 2.5)= 10 Pigments = 5 Blackfallow Ink per stack
@ 25% drop of Burning Embers = 1/2 Inferno Ink per stack
Note: Blackfallow Ink can be traded for Inferno Inks in Dalaran
Now - times the above statistics by 10 stacks
5 Blackfallow Ink * 10 Stacks = 50 Blackfallow ink
1/2 Inferno Ink * 10 Stacks = 5 Inferno Ink
Trade the 50 Blackfallow inks for 5 Inferno Ink and add the 5 Inferno Ink u already have = 10 Inferno Ink
So basically u need 10 stacks of either Cinderbloom, Heartblossom, Azshara's Veil or Stormvine
to make the 10 Inferno Ink for 1 DMF card.
The formulae is slightly different for the greater herbs.
1 Stack (20) greater herbs = 4 Mills
@ 2-4 Ashen Pigment per mill (average 3) = 12 Pigments = 6 Blackfallow Ink per stack
@ 50% drop of Burning Embers = 1 Inferno Ink per stack
This equates to 1.6 Inferno Inks per stack or approx 6.5 stacks for 1 DMF card
The greater herbs are Twilight Jasmine and Whiptail.
If you want to do a price comparison between the greater and lesser herbs all you need to do is
divide the greater herb stack price by 1.6. If the amount is lower than the lesser herb price then
the greater herb is the better buy and costing less to make a card.
Now based on your sums if a lesser herb was 100g/stack and volatile life was 10g ea the the sum would be -
10 stacks x 100g = 1000g
+ 10g x 30 = 300
= 1300 gold per card
Greater herb based on your cost of 200g/stack
6.5 stacks x 200g = 1300g
+ 10g x 30 = 300g
= 1600 gold per card
Now don't forget to times the cost of your card by 8 to get the price for one deck.
Based on my earlier calculations the greater herbs would have to be 160g to be the same cost to make the cards as the lesser herbs @100g ea.
160g/stack / 1.6 = 100g
I too have been making the cards on one of my alts. I have made over 40 full decks so far. When I mill I only use the lesser herbs (namely cinderbloom and stormvine) as they work out to be more cost effective at the moment on my server.
I hope this helps.

As of January 8th the proc damage appears to have been buffed.
The tooltip now shows damage from 4312 to 7188 for an average of 5750.

Note that this is a keeper trinket for Frost DW Death Knights at the moment. Will last through even the current heroic mode raids, along with the heroic Heart of Rage.
2H DKs will want to avoid it though.

Can somebody Confirm that it proccs off Paladin Judgement and maybe on Seal of Truth (5x stacked special) too? Would be very good to know because with the upcoming Patch(4.0.6) Seal of Truth does procc from Crusader Strike, Exorcism and Judgement, too.

Bought this card for my ProtPVP spec, and it is not 100% [proc for anything from what I have seen so far. So unless changes have been made recently this was BAD information. However the card does account for quite a good proportion of my damage. Going to do extensive testing on this card later and will post the results.

For reference, i (ret paladin) had this on during a Atramedes fight. I did 6 122 881 dmg in total, 6.25% of the total raid (25 man), and 12.3 k dps.
This trinket procced 39 times during the fight (31 @ 6336 avg + 8 crits @ 8221 avg). Thus it did 262189 total dmg (4.3 % of my total dmg).
The numbers were very similar during the Chimaeron fight aswell. (226492 total dmg, 30 + 5 procs).

Over the course of 10.2 million damage on a dummy (about 13 minutes), I only had 26 procs, comprising of 1.7% of my damage (168,740dmg). Is it me, or is this trinket nerfed? I kept seeing parses and simulations where it was almost 5% of your damage done. What a waste of 16k gold.

fury warrior, testing out on a dummy, 6mins, only 18 procs, so its looking like 3 procs per min... and the additional damage looks kinda weak.... the STR component is nice for fury though, probably good for pre-raid trinket if gold is not an issue.

I (arms warrior) feel this proccing way to less, so I asked a GM if I were wrong or not.
He told me that several other people also have said the same as me, and they are working on it.

So what im trying to figure out here is, if there is no internal cooldown on this thing, it cant share an internal cooldown if you stacked it... so would that be an optimal setup for a hunter in any specc? seems to me arcane shot is our filler and it proccs off of that... so would we get 2 rolls for this to procc if we had two on and would it be possible to procc both simultaneously? i think its worth looking into... if anyone has found anything out about this that would be cool to share it...

Got this as a Ret Paladin and I think that, as a pre-raid Trinket, it is good.
And that's ALL.
Yes it does about 4%~5% of my DPS in a fight but, I think that when you get in raids you'll get too see some more usefull trinkets than this.
If you have money to spare, buy it, but don't go saving money for it.

After the patch 4.2 proc damage will increase by 40% although no crits or player stat based modifiers. Most probably this is a buff to this already powerful trinket.

i have to say that this trinket has been somewhat underwhelming.
the best thing about it is the +str bonus.
after doing around 1bn dmg, the
Lightning Strike
trinket proc averaged only 1.7% of my total damage as a frost 2H DK. maybe better for those dual wielding.

He's confused cause of it saying
Equip: Chance to strike your enemies for 7000 Nature dmg when dealing dmg w/ melee or ranged attacks.
When WoWhead's tooltip says
Equip: Chance to strike your enemies for 5250 to 8750 Nature damage when dealing damage with melee or ranged attacks.
Ppl say that it has to get buffed to be viable but instead they nerf it.

卡德罗斯的印记
....oh well..next raid will show.
ps: it can do more than 7k, sometimes i had it proccing for 9-10k, not sure what it scales from....
edit: also confirmed that the trinket procs off divine storm (which prolly means its gonna proc off other melee aoe aswell) however im not sure if it can proc multiple times or has move chances to proc due to ds hitting multiple mobs at the same time. Technicaly if u see the description it could, but u never know with blizz ;p
