Obsidian Edge 2.0

Like some other weapons that now drop from Onyxia, this havn't used to drop from her.
It dropped from the first few bosses in Molten Core and was a very popular weapon (as it was obtainable very early)

Just had one of these drop for me last night on the opening patch night.

Although the Expertise isnt exactly the ideal stat that is generally looked for on a weapon, it helped in achieving that oh so dreaded expertise cap. Finally allowed me to drop a few gems.

For any melee class, Tank or DPS, if your not expertise capped and are in search of a weapon, this is quite nice.

This is easily one of the best DK tank weapons I've seen pre-ToCr from 10-man. This and Abaddon are close, stats wise, mostly it comes down to whether you need more hit or more expertise to get to your respective caps.

This one being so much easier to obtain than something off of 10-man Yogg.
Plus, there's likely to be a slightly better version of this off of 25-man Onyxia that hasn't been discovered yet.

The 25-Man version is called Sharpened Obsidian Edged Blade

Stats (differences) are:

255.6 (+23) DPS
146 (+17) Strength
179 (+20) Stamina

the old version did not drop in onyxia's lair but in molten core, just as some other epics from the new encounter

i would say this is going to be needed by a lot of classes, the high str/ stam are stats a 2h tank deathknight would make great use of for the massive rune strike's. but it is also going to be rolled on by warriors/ retribution paladins.
I pitty the group who has this drop, the ensueing arguement is going to be terrorfying.

Good replacement for any Tank or DPS (especially DK Tanks) if you're still using Inevitable Defeat 'cause you couldn't get to any of the Ulduar weapons. Inevitable Defeat was best suited for Tanks and seeing as DKs are the only class that ever tanks with a 2Hander, its best suited for DK Tanks.

I'm still trying to figure out why this weapon has a 900+ top-end damage but drops from a regular 10-man and not some Heroic 10-man. Has anyone done the math on the item points to see if this is over (and thus subject to nerfing) standard itemization for ilvl 245?

This is not a tank weapon for a death knight.
Because the tanking spec for a death knight
Is frost and unless you haven't been paying
any attention but frost is one handed weapon
based this weapon would be a great DPS sword
as far as i'm concerned.

Since when is the tanking spec for tanking frost?
Look at some of the blood/unholy talents, do you think vampiric blood is for dps? Do you think Anti-Magic Zone is for dps? Do you think Will of the Necropolis is for dps?

Veteran of the third war/Bone sheld are also good for both tanking and dps.

Not only would the boss parry almost all your OH attks...

Where does this come from? Dual-wielding raises miss chance, not parry, and does it equally to both hands. Dual wield tanking causes more parries because you auto attack nearly five times as often (going from a slow 2-hander (~3.5 sec/swing) to two fast 1-handers (two swings every 1.6 seconds or so)), and on some bosses it doesn't really matter because either A) they don't experience parry-haste on their auto attacks and/or B) the auto-attacks aren't what you're really worried about anyway.

The larger problem is building threat; the changes in 3.3 will allow you to A) use DPS one-handers for bigger instants (while staying def-capped with the new Runeforge) and/or B) get more out of Rune Strike, which will swing with both hands instead of just one.

Its a good weapon for Dk tanking because its speed 3.5 Which is a middle 2h speed, causes a small loss of dps (Which isn't a problem as a Tank) But also allows a slightly faster application of rune strike, which is an immence threat builder.
The Expertise is good for any class using it as dps to help you ready the dreaded expertise cap. And it has a healthy amount of strength and crit. It also looks very handsome.

Only kidding but this weapon is/was an amazing weapon for tanking and dpsing alike. Used on my pally for ret for quite a while as she was very much under expertise.

I'm very surprised that nobody mentioned this yet, but this weapon is FAR superior to http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50267 Tyrannical Beheader for retribution paladins. This doesn't have the nigh-useless Armor penetration rating, that about 99% of the non-ICC 219-232 ilevel weapons seem to have, and is a great weapon for any pugging retripaladin.

Probably noobish question, but would this be good for a Blood DK DPS?
I know it's good for tanking, but I'm wondering about using it for DPS. Have been using for 3 months now, and I'm tired of that POS (not Pit of Saron :P), and am currently doing ICC 10/25 to get a better weapon, but would this be good just to get rid of the dang axe.

I love this sword so freaking much just because everytime I see it it reminds me of the Sword of Sparda in the Devil May Cry series. It's the sword that his father wielded, then later on Dante transforms his Force Edge into this sword.

This is the Improved Model of Obsidian Edged Blade. That dropped off of a select few Boss's from Moltencore. Most notably the non Flamewaker / Salamander boss's. A few other Models revamped from Moltencore are also Snub-Nose Blaster Launcher which is based on its original Blastershot Launcher and the famed Azuresong Mageblade which is revamped as Polished Azuresong Mageblade or their other raid sized version twins. Their is likely a few other revamped Weapons dropped from MC but These are the better known ones I found.
