This cloak should be without a doubt THE best DPS caster cloak in WOTLK when 3.1 comes hits (at the time of writing at least). The stats on the cloak alone will make my mage go weak at the knees (being undead i would imagine his legs are weak enough already so that his kneecaps will fall off at the sight of this item) and will probably turn any Boomkin into a Doomkin automatically just by equipping it!

This is a drop from The Iron Council(25) Hard Mode.

The hard mode requires that you kill The Iron Council in a specific order similar to the "Bug Family" encounter in AQ40.

The current assumption is that Stormcaller Brundir last is the easiest difficulty, followed by Runemaster Molgeim and Steelbreaker.

If it weren't for the Hit rating on it my Paladin would roll on it because all the other stats and the socket are fabulous. Seeing as how there is Hit rating on it I'd totally B*%#H out any healer who rolled on this unless it was for a DPS off-set.

/grats Caster DPS, you need look no further for a cloak.

That's basically a comparison between this, the Pennant Cloak (the current BIS, and the best 'well itemised' cloak so far even with the currently released Ulduar loot) and the Shroud of Luminosity (the best itemised 216 cloak).

If you look at the comparison, you can see that the Drape of Mortal Downfall is at least on par with the Pennant Cloak. It gains 9 crit rating, 16 SP (assuming that both are socketed with 16 int, which they should be) and 5 intellect (before Kings in Divine Intellect). It loses 42 haste rating. Overall, it can be seen as: +16 SP, +0.23% crit, +90 mana, +~4 pseudo-mp5, -42 haste. Some small gains for a relatively small loss. I'd say they are even - given as such, a holy paladin (or resto shammy, or any healing priest that desires crit), in my opinion, should not even consider taking it until all dps casters have gotten one first. Even if they don't have the Pennant Cloak, I've shown that at best this cloak is a very, very minor upgrade. There's no reason to take it over someone who can use ALL of the lovely stats provided.

Summary: of course, I can only say my opinion. But again, if you are focusing on guild progression (which you will be if you're doing fights like the Iron Council on hard mode), then healers should keep their hands off this until after the dps casters all have it. If you get to the point where all the dps casters have it and you're still using a 216/219 cloak (from Naxx 25/Ulduar 10), then go nuts. ^^

Personally, I'm still using the Cloak of the Dying from KT 10. But there's no way I'd take this off a dps caster, even though it's a clear upgrade. Some things are more important than how kitted out one toon is (I sure hope I get an upgrade before all the casters get this; I'd find it somewhat embarrassing walking around with hit on my cloak - I hate the fact that my paper doll has +10 str, agi and spirit thanks to 10 stats to chest -.-).

Got this cloak yesterday. It's easiest Best in Slot for every caster, (except bufferlocks, but thats just because they scale so good with SP and spirit).

Anyway. Anyone getting this won't be changing it before the Crusader raidinstance i 3.2.

Somehow, out of all the times I have run Ulduar 25 man, after the mount, I don't have this. Neither does my SO, who is pretty much addicted to xmogs. Does this still drop?

EDIT: I obtained this at some point, but forget when and how. I might have done the kill order listed below, that sounds vaguely familiar.

I can confirm that this DOES still drop to this day. Finally got it on an alt run (still no Mimiron's head after all these years), killing Runemaster Molgeim first, then Stormcaller Brundir, and finally Steelbreaker. As I understand it, "Hard Mode" is when you kill Steelbreaker last, I have yet to find out if killing the other two in reverse makes a difference, but I kept it that order because that's what I read somewhere else. Killing them in that order also net me 碾嗜者 and 危险之噬 (finally) on another run which are also Hard Mode items. Don't give up hope if you're farming x-mog items, these just have a very severely low drop rate (like the final pair of mail shoulders from Algalon).
