Do note that this is an exception to the rules applied to most (all?) shoulder enchants currently available. After reading the above comments, I tried to apply the Hodir one to some BtA shoulders and got the "Item is too low level" error, since the heirloom items are all item level 1.

You are not supposed to be able to enchant your heirloom shoulders. Blizzard will probably make this item enchantment unusable for the next patch, like they did with the ZG enchants. But at the moment you can feel free to use this item on your heirloom shoulders and hopefully when blizzard fixes it, the actual enchant will remain on your shoulders.

nice to know:
resilience rating is lvl34 capped like dodge rating

if you are below lvl 34 you will always get 1,2% crit reduction from 15 resilience-rating. it does'nt matter if you are lvl 3 or 30.
(12 dodge rating on cloak is always 2% dodge)

well it's funny noone mentioned it yet, but this is also quite nice for tanks, as its the only shoulder ench providing 30+ stamina. So if you don't have avoidiance problems theese are good to boost your total hp. This is nowhere as good for tanks as the Hodir enchs for overall tanking, but can be slightly more useful in more health efficent fights.

For defense capped tanks, it seems these would be an alternative option to Greater Inscription of the Pinnacle; Dodge and Defense Rating suffer from diminishing returns, while +30 Stamina is static (and is certainly worth more with buffs, talents, and class abilities.

I've tried suggesting them to our 559 Defense Death Knight, and I'd like to see if anyone else has found success in using these over the "typical" enchant.

My Conclusions...

I got one today for my alt's BoA shoulders. 10k honor is worth it imo. It's an excellent opportunity risk; as 10k honor should be easy to get. Different situation's apply: I have time to farm honor, you may not want to lose a preexisting enchant, etc. The enchant may get removed, fixed, or w/e, but if you want to pawn then get it. Also, you shouldn't "rack your brain" over 10k honor. I totally agree though, clarity & posts help to understand these types of questions. I also came here 1st for insight.

Another Note, I do not have my mammoth yet. I can't confirm whether its sold in WG. I don't think it is. Even if it was, buying things with my Stone Keeper's Shard's is out of the question.

On the PTR, this enchant requires the wielder to be at level 70 or greater, but you can still attach it to a BOA shoulder piece.

My level 29 twink warrior still has the enchant on his shoulders, but it has no effect.

The inscription will be nerfed with the 3.1 patch, it won't be removed from allready enchanted shoulders, but only usable if the shoulder's owner is 70+ (for people using it on bind on account items).

This does NOT work anymore for heirlooms for you lowlvl character. The enchant will still be there but it won´t work until you become lvl 70.

Huge surprise to me. I logged in on my twink to find that I had lost 800 HP from patch 3.1.
300HP from The shoulders
400HP from my nethercleft
100HP from my head enchant.

I'm ok with the shoulders and leg enchants but the head enchant is a pain to get.

from patch 3.1 you can still enchant it to a BoA item...
then you can send the item to anybody you want...
but it will only affect lvl 70 and above characters...

This is IMO one of the best tanking inscriptions in the game as it provides the most stamina for shoulders.

A great way to quickly get this is to do 5-mans for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43228 and then turn them in for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44115. While you're doing that, you can also do PvP dailies for easy honor (the quest "For Great Honor," which I didn't link because apparently wowhead doesn't have the updated version, is generally easiest because all you have to do is participate in each BG). Add to that the fact that you gain even more honor while doing these dailies and you will easily be able to enchant a new shoulder item you get with this within a few days.

Besides its obvious PvP uses, this enchant is also an excellent alternative for tanks to the Sons of Hodir tanking shoulder enchant. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44136. (Not to mention much easier to obtain, especially if you're not much on doing the dailies for the SoH rep grind - if only they had a tabard...) Although the resilience is rather useless for PvE, the SoH tanking enchant does NOT give stamina. The defense and dodge are nice, but as a tank, stamina takes priority once you hit the defense cap. There's a reason this enchant is equal to the SoH enchant on WoW Heroes.com gear rankings. 30 stamina = 300 hit points. It may not seem like much, but even a little extra HP makes a big difference when tanking endgame instances.

If you plan to use this for PvE as I have for my alt DK,
15 resi rating is equal to 22 def rating in terms of crit avoidance at level 80.
(15 resi = 0.18% crit avoidance, 22 def rating = 0.18% crit avoidance)

Just to keep in mind if your trying to stay over the 540 def mark.

just as a thought; this is what I use for my feral druid shoulder enchant for tanking.

with the changes to resilience and the amount of stam on it, I really don't feel it can be beat.

plus without having to be defense capped and getting craptons of agi from feral pieces I love stacking stam.

For a fully buffed feral tank - this represents 480 HP. (1.61 total stamina modifier)

The debate then is between 480 HP and 0.8% avoidance (Before DR)
If you're pushing around 40-45% dodge like most bears are fully buffed, the amount of avoidance is more realistically about .5%.

I'm thinking i'll take the stamina. PVP gear wins again for feral survival :( I'd still advocate taking the real tanking hodir enchant while gearing up though, as .8% avoid is nothin to sneeze at from one enchant. DR will smack it down though, and ultimately theres no DR on stam, which makes this better.

I'm looking at this vs. the 'normal' tanking enchant from Sons (+dodge/def). In my DK tank's gear the Sons enchant gives ~0.6% dodge total. This enchant would give a total of 328 HP in Frost Presence and unbuffed with my current Blood spec (about 362 total raid buffed).

While gearing up initially the +def/dodge from Sons probably outweighs this one, but once you're at a point where that's not as critical and DR is killing your gains from dodge rating the 30 stamina starts to look more appealing.

If you do not have the Defense Cap as a Tank, you should read this:

+30 stamina and +22.5 defense rating (+15 resilience rating equivalent)

This. Is. Just. Awesome. Forget the Sons of Hodir one. You can buy it for 150 Stone Keeper's shards. What do you use them for anyway?

Otherwise you only get a +30 stamina bonus which is still really good

When I'm looking for this Greater Inscription of the Gladiator at this vendor Brave Stonehide, there are no enchants offered! ='( She only sells BG potions and gems =( I am a warrior, does that have anything to do with it? Warriors can't buy it? I want to buy these for my Paladins shoulders, but now I can't!

Blizz has gone to making shoulder enchants available to all of your characters (with appropriate level requirements to prevent OP twinks)...so you only have to do the rep (or honor/stone) grind on one toon.

This applies to Sons of Hodir (req lvl 80), Wintergrasp (req lvl 80), Honor (req lvl 70), Violet Eye (req lvl 70), Aldor (req lvl 64), Scryer (req lvl 64), Argent Dawn (req lvl 55), and Zandalar Tribe (req lvl 55), enchants.

The enchants can be placed on gear worn by low levels (e.g. BoA gear), but the enchant will be red until the character reaches the required level. For the non BoA enchants (PreBC and BC), you have to have the gear in your inventory to enchant it. It can not be applied through the trade window (so enchanting your lowbie's quest reward gear is out).

The tooltip now says 'Enchanting the item causes it to become soulbound.' Fairly certain it did not before 3.3.2. Can anyone confirm this enchant can still be applied to heirloom shoulders as of the latest patch? If there has been a change, I would expect the account bound mechanics of the heirloom shoulders would now prevent this enchant from being applied...

Ingame tooltip put 15resi at 0.16% reduced chance crit, which is equal to 4 defense. Or 4.92*4 = 16.68 defense rating.

You have done your math wrong 4.92*4=19.68 not 16.68. You are absolutely correct about everything else.

I also want to point out that this conversion is only good if your critable. Resilience after 540 defense WILL DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. For the resilience on this enchant to work in PvE you MUST have less than 540 defense. If you only have the 15 resilience from this enchant then your goal is to have 536-540 defense to be uncritable, and at the same time get some benefit from the resilience.

If you are still unsure if you are uncritable:
Add the crit reduction amount on the tooltip when you hover your resilience stat (not crit damage reduction amount), and then add it to the crit reduction amount on the tooltip when you hover over your defense. Since raid bosses' crit is set at 5.6% the sum your uncritable numbers must be equal to 5.6% or greater.

The conversions for being uncritable:
4.92 defense rating = 1 to defense skill = .04 reduced chance to be crit
1 resilience rating = .0106 reduced chance to be crit (as of patch 3.2 wich changed resilience)

Currently this can be applied to heirloom shoulders with a higher level character and sent to your alt. It scales with level and at level 15 the enchantment was +11 Stamina, +6 PvP Resilience.

As of 7.0.3 it looks like this item has been removed from the Vendor on alliance side and replaced with 3 shoulder enchants for level 85.
