I think higher level inscription makes it so that you have higher chance of getting Icy pigment, can anybody confirm?
When i was at 400 inscription and milled icethorn/adder's tongue/ lichblooms, i only got few icy pigments.
When i got to 436 inscritpion, i realized i was getting more icypigments than before.
It could just be me or does lvl of inscription have anything do with gaining rare pigments?

If you are herbalist you can farm herbs with good icy pigment proc in these spot:
- Adder's Tongue and Tiger Lily in Sholazar Basin (just do a full circuit run)
- Icethorn and Lich bloom in Storm Peaks (circuit, better way is from Brunnhildar village to Thunderfall, and do a look also in Fjorn's Anvil)*
*Brunnhildar Village, north east of K3, coords are 48,69
*Thunderfall, east of map, coords are 70,51
*Fjorn's Anvil 73,61
*NOTE* you need to have fly mount to discover all areas up to k3 ^^

Was the drop rate of Icy from low level Northrend herbs (Goldclover, talandra's rose, tigerlily, deadnettle.) increased recently? When i started farming these a few weeks ago i'm pretty sure Wowhead was reporting the mill rate from these herbs to be about 4%, and now i'm seeing 25% for these herbs. Either way, now that the post-expansion economy has settled itself down and it's no longer a no-brainer to AH these herbs, i'm milling them along with my Adder's/LichB/IceT as i work towards Greatness.

If u want to figure out the actual percentage then do this math. For every 5 herbs u can do 1 mill. For a stack of herbs that would be 20 herbs which is 4 mills. So to figure out herb to mill ratio it is 5M.Now there is an unknown factor which is the icy pigment so doing the equation 5x4M=20M we will say 3 icy pigments dropped. Now that we know how many pigments dropped the equation changes and becomes 3/M=such % which in this case is 3/4=75%. But u can use this math to also figure out how many herbs u need to make a specific amount of Snowfall Ink. For every 2 pigments u can make 1 Snowfall ink. P/2=? snowfall ink represents this in which P is pigments. So put it all together lets say u want 6 Snowfall Ink, P/2=6 thus P=12. 3/4=12/4M M=4. 4X4=16. Which means u have to do 16 mills to get 12 snowfall ink. 5X4M=20M which with 4 being M means 5x16=80 herbs. I actually made it more complex than it needed to be but to figure these out is actually solved through 2 separate problems. But if u plan on farming to make a Darkmoon Card this would be the math other than the fact that i used an untested pigment drop.

Today 02/01-09 I were milling various herbs, and got as much as 4 icy pigments
per stack
from icy thorns. Then I went down to adder's tongue, and to my surprise I got
3 icy pigments from a single milling!
(5 herbs)
So you can get more than one at a time, even though in my experience, is rare. And I've never received just 2, it's either 1 or 3(the icy pigments are rare enough as it is :> Can sometimes mill through 3 stacks of herbs without getting a single one)
Edit: Happened a few more times, only on adder's tongues, and this time I got 4 azure pigments on as well (more than WoWhead says)
I'm thinking that higher level herbs have higher proc chance after all, because I often get icy pigments on icethorns and adder's tongues, but almost never on goldclovers and tiger lily's etc
Silly me, WoWhead even says you have twice as good chance on icethorns, adder's tongues and lichblooms *bonks his noggin*
Milled through 19 stacks of Adder's tongues, received 31 icy pigments (15 snowfall ink) and 237 azure pigments. All those azure pigments will give another 11 snowfall ink in the next patch (almost 12). Does that really help this drop rate for the northrend glyph research? In my opinion, no. >.< Because I still need to do the research at least 60+ times.....

Anyone found it strange how the change of Icy Pigment from Icethorn (level 80 Northrend herb) has a 50% for 1 - 3 Icy Pigments while Adder's Tongue (level 77 Northrend Herb) has a 50% for 1 - 4 Icy Pigments.
I am putting the levels from item level.

This has less to do with the actual percentage of herb to pigment, and more to do with the volume in which you can generally buy Adder's Tongue. Let's take a look at the list of things Adder's Tongue is used for in comparison to the number of things Lichbloom and Icethorn are good for.
Adder's Tongue.
Mighty Alchemist's Stone.
Potion of Speed.
Elixir of Major Agility
Elixir of Expertise
Elixir of Deadly Strikes
Northrend Alchemy Research
That's it. A few generally worthless elixirs (Most people don't even use elixirs over flasks.) and Alchemy research, which is on a cooldown and eventually becomes useless once you've learned everything you can learn from it. Won't even mention the Alchemist's stone because it's not that good and you'll only ever make one.
Now let's look at what the other two herbs are used in. I'll bold the ones that are very often consumed by raid guilds.
Icethorn.
Flask of Pure Mojo.
(Druid healers sometimes prefer this.)
Flask of the Frost Wyrm.
(Pretty much every caster in raid.)
Indestructible Potion. (Not going to bold this, but I've been asked to make them for the guild for really niche situations.)
Elixir of Mighty Defense.
Runic Healing Potion.
Lichbloom
Flask of Endless Rage.
(Obviously used by most melee.)
Flask of Stoneblood.
(Standard tanking flask.)
Flask of the Frost Wyrm.
(See above. Also note that BOTH of these herbs are used for this ONE flask.)
Potion of Wild Magic.
(Very useful in fights where you need to burst things down. We use this often.)
Powerful Rejuvenation Potion.
Runic Mana Potion.
(Yeah, we go through a lot of these too surprisingly.)
Elixir of Mighty Mageblood.
(I've seen some resto druids who like to use this paired with
this.
Which means they're highly disposable if you wipe a lot.)
What is the point of all of this information? Given the above facts, it would lead one to believe that generally, Adder's Tongue is less desired, and therefore paired with the fact that there are less abundant nodes for both Lichbloom and Icethorn, Adder's Tongue is significantly cheaper and in higher supply, whilst the demand stays low. So yes, if you are basing your return on how much you spend, Adder's Tongue is nine times out of ten going to be your best buy.
Hope this helps someone. :)

After milling many many many herbs here are my results:
Name Milled Azure Icy
Deadnettle 100 2.45 0.24
Fire Leaf 27 2.67 0.44
Fire Seed 0 0.00 0.00
Goldclover 255 2.54 0.20
Talandra's Rose 28 2.36 0.21
Tiger Lily 399 2.49 0.27
Adder's Tongue 1473 2.98 0.52
Icethorn 852 2.97 0.53
Lichbloom 540 3.03 0.51
I will update this as i mill more herbs. Any results with less than 100 millings should not be considered accurate. They are added here for completeness

Farm Adder's tongues in sholazar for this, collecting in storm peaks will give you 2 different herbs to mill while all that grows in sholozar is your tongues.

Either these ratios have changed and haven't been updated or my luck with
Adder's Tongue
. is very poor. I don't get anywhere near one
Icy Pigment
from each stack milled

Yeah, it does seem sort of ridiculously expensive to trade 10
Ink of Dreams
for just one single
Snowfall Ink
, especially if you're doing the research every single day like me for weeks and weeks now. I have an herber just parked out in Sholzar, seems
Adder's Tongue
is everywhere out there and is allegedly a 50% mill rate for these icy pigments. Well, it lies. A lot. Every day I mill stacks of the Adder's Tongue trying for the two icy pigment I need to make my 1
Snowfall Ink
, and I end up with at least 30 or 40
Ink of the Sea
by the time I have my ONE Snowfall Ink. Since it takes 2 Azure Pigment to make 1 Snowfall Ink, Thats 60 or 80 Azure Pigment milled for every 2 Icy Pigment milled. Sooo...cut that in half, 30 or 40 Azure Pigment milled to get 1 Icy, say 3 azure on average per 5 Adders Tongue milled, and it takes 30 to 40 to see 1 Icy, that makes 10 to 14 mills of 5 Adders Tongue to yield 1 Icy Pigment, meaning it's about 10% to 7% chance per mill you will get 1 Icy Pigment, not anywhere NEAR 50% chance per mill of Adders Tongue. I need 50 to 70 Adders Tongue gathered to guarantee I get 2 Icy Pigment out of it.
These numbers aren't based on one or two times of having done this. These are based on having done this a few days a week, week after week, for a few months now.
Maybe turning all of those damn Green Tea Leaves I have into 1 Snowfall Ink is actually more efficient, as hard to believe as that is.
