Glyphs like this and the dispel one will be amazing for shadow priests since we'll have a way to defensively heal more than just PW:S rather than breaking shadowform and trying to get off a flash heal or 2.

PW:S is getting some pretty hefty love in the Discipline tree, though I wonder how it will effect Warrior and Druid tanks who need to tank damage to build rage.

The glyph turns Power Word Shield into an Earth Shield of sorts that also absorbs damage.

Regarding PW:S being in the Discipline tree.... there is no such thing as a Discipline school of magic. PW:S is classified as a
holy spell
, click on this link to see that fact:
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=48066
Shadowform does not allow any spells that are
Holy
to be cast:
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=15473
If there is a way that this is being worked around, I'd sure love to hear how.
edit: Holy is a school of magic, Shadow is a school of magic, Discipline, sir, is not a school of magic.
Power Word: Shield is a Holy spell. Click on the link. Then practice getting Kicked out of the Holy School and trying to cast PW:S if you don't believe me.

TY Bloody for your helpful answer. It still seems to contradict the wording of Shadowform, but if you are saying that it's based off of class and not School of magic, then I can buy that.
@ yurmama- you do understand the difference between school and classification, right? You understand that when you get Kicked casting a healing spell, you get locked out of PW:S as well, right? This isn't Thottbot, try to help the discussion instead of name-calling and refusing to read the distinctions that are being discussed.

while you cannot cast PW:S if holy is on cd, you have... and always have... been able to use PW:S in shadow form.

Is this an instant heal at the cast of the spell or is health funneled to the character for every absorbed point of damage ?

The healing effect can crit.

When you initially cast PW:S on the person or yourself... that is when the healing is applied. It does NOT heal you per melee hir or spell damage.
This is not a good glyph to purchase at low levels... At low levels your probably Shadow spec and this will heal for like 18-25HP when cast .... Buy a different glyph!

If the heal crits, does that means that the shield crits also for double absorption?

Does this have a hidden cooldown, because this Glyph doesn't seem to be healing for a lot.
Another question which might seem obvious, does the healing cause threat?
Sorry if these seem obvious, but I'd appreciate a response.
EDIT: It actually appears to work like this: Whe you cast power word sheild, it will instantly heal you for the total amount of damage the sheild can absorb, so you will gain no benefit from this glyph if you cast power word sheild when at 100% health.

Glyph of Power Word: Shield now correctly uses the Priest’s spell critical chance instead of the target’s.

The heal from this seems to be causing aggro issues. The scenario is:
Tank at full health
Tank pulls
I shield
Mobs start running towards me
This seems to happen every time the above scenario occurs. Now, according to what I know about aggro, this shouldn't happen. The tank pulls one mob, causing threat on that mob and aggro'ing the others. At that point the other mobs have a threat level (to the tank) of 0. Any actions that generate aggro will pull them. Ok, thats fine.
But! Overhealing does not generate threat (afaik). So what is causing the mobs to aggro to me when the heal from this glyph is 100% overhealing?
Has anyone else using the glyph noticed this happening? Is there something I'm missing that is causing threat?

If you are Disc with this glyph and cast PW:S on another Disc Priest, it procs a Divine Aegis shield on the receiving priest. Kinda interesting

Does this have a spellpower co-efficient? I ask as on my 24 priest, this hits for about 80 healing but the PW:S tooltip says it shields 246.
Seems a touch odd...

Currently, this seems to be calculated before
Imp. PW:S
, meaning it doesn't get the extra 10% from it. Hope it changes.
Edit: posting the math.
I put up a shield for 414 damage, as shown on tooltip and log.
This heal hits for 76-77, which is not 20% of the above:
414 * 0,2 = 82,8
Instead, the heal is much closer to 20% of what the base shield would be (without the 10% from the talent):
414 / 1,1 = 376
376 * 0,2 = 75,2
Which brings me back to my first statement. Any confirms on this?

This will be a much better glyph in 4.0.6 if it remains the same, considering Power Word: Shield's effect will be increased by 208%, pretty much tripling its worth.

In Mists of Pandaria this glyph has been modifed. At this point it is unclear if this is only a tooltip change or if the spell is not calculated differently as a result of this change.
OLD: Glyph of Power Word: Shield
Your Power Word: Shield also heals the target for 20% of the absorption amount.
NEW: Glyph of Power Word: Shield
20% of the absorb from your Power Word: Shield spell is converted into healing.

Currently in MoP, the new wording of the glyph does in fact change how the glyph operates. I have tested and verified this on the beta.
20% of the shield is converted into healing, as opposed to the old functioning, which added on an additional 20% as a heal.
My testing:
Without glyph: 57721 shield, 0 heal
With glyph: 46177 shield, 11544 heal (57898 total)
Possible benefits to using this glyph:
Refreshing Renew in Chakra: Serenity as Holy
Proccing Echo of Light as Holy
Proccing Divine Aegis as Disc
Overall, glyph seems okay for Holy as another instant way to refresh Renew, and pretty useless for Disc.

As has been stated already, the MoP version of this glyph pulls down the absorb amount to convert into healing.
This sounds quite useless at first but high shield absorbs were one of the reasons I never specced into Mastery as Disc pre-MoP as well as intentionally avoided the 4 piece (10% chance to proc double shield amount). It's a bit difficult to quantify but bigger shields reduce the chances of getting your Rapture procs every 12 seconds since they are more difficult to break, as well as reduces the chance that the shield itself (and therefore the itemization into Mastery) would be useful each cast. That is why I was specced into a minimum amount of Spirit for the hardest encounters and then Crit for aegis absorbs, which are maintainable and much more likely to eventually be "used". The smaller shields to me were simply a mana regen tool and occasional tank save, with more efficient spells like Prayer/Aegis/Mending/Atonement/Greater Heal taking precedence in effective healing done.
Before MoP if you were talking about any-sized PW: Shield going from breaking to not breaking, and thus not proc'ing Rapture, the efficiency of the spell dropped off
very
drastically which reduced its usefulness to saving someone about to die rather than being an effective healing spell all-around. At 4.3 it was beneficial to avoid casting PW:S unless you were accurately certain it would either proc Rapture or that it was necessary to rescue a party member.
With that said, this new glyph seemed quite beneficial at first but now is further complicated by the fact that Rapture procs seem to be have been significantly reduced in MoP. With current Spirit levels (I was running 2,500 for DS) I went from gaining a few thousand mana each Rapture to only getting back half the cost of my PW:S. With all of this said, I'm not sure that paying special mind to your Rapture rotation will be nearly as beneficial as it once was but we aren't level 90 yet and this may also change and become vital once again in end-game if Spirit becomes more prevalent than it was in Cata for Disc, which appears to be highly likely.

Downgraded to the potency of a major glyph, this now heals for 20% by detracting that value from the absorb instead of being an extra heal on top of the absorb. That said, this would be useful in PvP against anyone who dispels bubbles. Even if dispelled immediately, your PW:S still managed to do something other than proc Rapture. Speaking of Rapture, it also makes PW:S easier to break in PvE through damage to proc it that way, which was a concern at Cataclysm's endgame since shields could get powerful enough to not be broken as often as desired to proc Rapture.

Post 5.2 Update:
Power Word: Shield critical effects double the healing from Glyph of Power Word: Shield, but the heal itself isn't a critical heal-- it's just twice as large as normal. As such, it doesn't trigger Divine Aegis. Also, the Glyph of Power Word: Shield heal doesn't appear to double-dip from Discipline's new dual mastery; it only inherits PW:S's boosted absorb, and is unaffected by the healing increase.
