After open water fishing in Howling Fjord for a while, the Glacial Salmon were the most 2nd common fish I caught after the Bonescale Snapper fish. If you're familiar with fishing in Terrokar Forest, these are similar to the Spotted Feltail as far as drop rate goes. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27425

Should be a decent money maker, as a lot of casters may buy them up to make leveling and instancing easier.

On another note it looks like Glacial Salmon is also used with Northern Spices in the higher end cooking recipe Firecracker Salmon http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34767. It's the same as Smoked Salmon, but with more spell damage :)

edit: clarify that Bonescale Snappers are the most common fish ;P

Glacial Salmon are commonly found along the rivers in Grizzly Hills. The rivers along Howling Fjord barely have any at all, instead they have Fangtooth Herring.

Great for making: Firecracker Salmon.

It's hard to find schools for these in Howling Fjord, you seem to have better luck by just fishing them up.

Yeah, Grizzly Hills is much better for Glacial Salmon. The lake near Ashwood Post and the river that runs down from Heart's Blood Shrine have at least 13 Pools. I was fishing there alone and they respawned faster than I could fish them out.

Seems like they nerfed Glacial salmon drop rate from the waters in Grizzly Hills (or I'm just being very unlucky). The most common fish seems to be Bonescal Snapper, which is used for the hit rating food Snapper Extreme. Glacial Salmon schools are still very abundant in Grizzly Hills, so farming these is still pretty easy.

In Grizzly Hills, if you want to avoid PvP areas, one good spot is the lake below Camp Oneqwah and the river that goes to the right of the map.

You can easily find 3-4 spots in the lake and near the part of the river that goes through the furborg camp to the south and if you follow the river to the eastern part, you can also find 2-4 pools.

Its easy to get 20-30 fishes by the time the lure worns out and since there arent many quests there, you can fish without being disturbed.

I found loads of easy to fish glacial salmon in the Grizzly Hills just outside of conquest hold to the east.
Fishing skill of 350 +20 bonus on fishing rod +75 with bright bauble.

-Glacial Salmon-11
-Crystallized water-1
-Bonescale Snapper-9
-Fangtooth Herring-1
*Pygmy Suckerfish-1

10 min of fishing got that 1 bauble, and the salmon, pygmy, and fangtooth sell pretty good for bank in AH.

I found the catch rates in the above comments highly overrated. Here are my stats:

Bonescale Snapper - 39 - 54.9%
Fangtooth Herring - 12 - 16.9%
Glacial Salmon - 10 - 14.1%
Pygmy Suckerfish (caught with the other fish) - 9 - 12.7%
Crystallized Water - 1 - 1.4%

Fished at 30,54 in Grizzly Hills.

If you fish from actual schools you'll get the Glacial Salmon nearly every time. In addition to that, just from my experience fishing these up in Grizzly Hills this morning, I got caught a Pygmy Suckerfish nearly every time I caught a salmon, so if you don't have any alchemist friends and aren't one yourself you can at least auction 'em.

I Just started with 415 Cooking. and 360+25+100 Fishing. I fished 20-25 of theese per Lure. ( 10min ) And after around 40 min i had over 100 Glacial Salmon. 85 of theese got me to 424 Cooking, Starting on Green skill. This is a great fish to skill Cooking on tho. Easy to get, And Alot of them in Grizzly Hills, and they sell rather good on AH.

Caught from waters of Grizzly Hills. You can fish it from schools (90% catch rate) and from open water (22% catch rate)

Depending on how many dedicated anglers are on your server these can fetch a nice price at auction. Since one of the two options for higher end cooking skill ups is Gigantic feast which takes 2 monster belly and 2 grouper, and the other option is Small Feast which requires two each of Glacial Salmon and Nettlefish. Many cooks aiming for finishing off their profession will be looking for these fish.

As of Patch 3.1, Glacial Salmon can now be fished up in Wintergrasp, as can Nettlefish and several others.

I wanted to see just how fishable these were in open water, so with 35 minutes of open water fishing in grizzly hills and 455 fishing I got :

70 x Bonescale Snapper (46.6%)
29 x Glacial Salmon (19.3%)
27 x Fangtooth Herring (18%)
14 x Pygmy Suckerfish (9.3%)

And :
2 x Tattered Cloth (1.3%)
2 x Weeds (1.3%)
1 x Driftwood (0.6%)
3 x Tangled Fish Line (2%)
2 x Sickly Fish (1.3%)

I will do more testing to see that my percentages ring true.

Start at 30,44 and move ur way down that long river.

Should be mentioned that this fish alone can get your cooking skill from 350 to 450 , if you have the needed fishing skill to get it .
You can cook Smoked Salmon from 350 to 400 and Firecracker Salmon from 400 to 450. After that it's just a money making machine if you make Fish Feasts and sell them.
( you will need 3 Dalaran Cooking Award to buy the Recipe: Firecracker Salmon )

I noticed the comments on here say to try the rivers of Grizzly Hills. Man were they right. In about 20 minutes I caught 45 Glacial Salmon and 33 Pygmy Suckerfish and I didnt have to travel far at all. All of my catches have been from schools, haven't tried open water. But if your looking to rack up the Salmon number quick, find some schools.

I found making a circuit of the northern pvp area in Grizzly Hills worked really well for schools of glacial salmon. Probably best on a PvE server and just don't flag /avoid mobs

Winter Grasp is the best place to pick these up as those above me have stated. When you don't get these you get Nettlefish which is just as good.

As of Feb. 7, 2011 .... fishing from the abundant schools of glacial salmon in Grizzly Hills worked very, very well for me. If you have learned the "find fish" skill, and can fly, it is dead easy. The schools are always respawning in the lake and river edges.

From what I can see, there aren't any Glacial Salmon Schools in Howling Fjord in the river/lake areas noted here, but instead they are Fangtooth Herring Schools.

I found the glacier salmon very difficult to find at first...I went to Dragonblight, Wintergrasp and Howling Fjord, and couldn't find any schools. I then went to Grizzly hills, near Amberpine Lodge, and found some straight away. To prevent this problem...just go to Grizzly Hills first! Hope this helps.
