So well done blizzard. Also this will grant a very cheap way to raise your skill level without spending hours of farming or golds.

To sum it up: do you have an alt that has Blacksmith not capped? Don't waste time now, wait for WOTLK and enjoy summer vacations.

Smiths look to be making a lot more useful lowbie equipment now. Exciting to think how much of what we make to skill up with will actually be wanted, and thus not merely vendor/de trash

Note that this item is BOP, unlike the other early trainable items (and all the later craftable shields), so unless you're really gimped for a shield at 70, you'll never make this.

(In fact it's only the second BOP BS green in the game...)

I find this shield quite good for a lv 70 starter defense rating set. As a blacksmith prot pally I find the cobalt "set" and this shield makes nice combination. Along with my other items I got 48X defense and over 100% avoidance with Holy Shield and Redoubt active.

Is this the first craftable shield for blacksmiths? I've just leveled BS'ing up to 380 and I don't ever remember making shields.

Can anyone explain why this item is BoP?

I made a couple of these with some leftover cobalt to send to my main for disenchanting, never thinking even for a second that some lousy lvl 70 green shield would be BoP for no apparent reason whatsoever. But no, apparently this item is so egregiously OP that it can't possibly be allowed to circulate.

Ridiculous.

full cobalt (including shield) is a great set of tanking gear for when youve just got into northrend, if you want to be the beastyest tanker around get this and a 1 handed mace.

If you are an aspiring tank closing in on the 70 mark and don't want your face royally pounded inside your head by the first northrend dungeon mobs you encounter, then I too seriously reccomend geting the whole cobalt 'set' along with this baby.

If you decide giving a shot tanking UK/Nexus in those flashy outland/early-LK dps pieces like I did, prepare to be masticated.

Very nice set, and VERY affordable. Cobalt is amazingly common, and you can make the entire set quickly, and either use it or sell it for a very nice profit.

I also must go along with what Sorsa said: If you try to tank with Outland blues/LK Quest DPS Plate, you will get mauled and quite easily killed. The scaling just doesn't go that far for these pieces when it comes to tanking. Unless you have high-tier Outland Epics, get this "set" ASAP.

The price was nerfed in the most recent patch. I believe the vendor price is now just over 2.77g per shield. This is about a 50% drop, thanks Blizzard for destroying my hopes of getting gold capped via the cobalt market.
