In my opinion, you have items like http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=36880 which is a reward for a quest you can do before level 70 if the trend is the same as BC (when we could quest at 58). Now, considering how powerful this green is, say to the first level 70 MH----> http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=28297, I am sure that there will be level 80 instance drops from either normal 5-mans or Naxx (the first raid I think) that will be close to equaling this item or at least close the gap so much that people will not want to spend 7.6k gold.

Also, some people want to start new professions, and if the BC trends continues, people will have far better returns pumping that cash into their professions instead of one item slot.

I still don't get why everyone is just talking about price and not stats.

The Agi/Sta bonus are amazing by themselves, and on top of that, 100 AP, 34 crit.

~~The big cherry being an amazing 30 haste on a ring, that combined with the new haste enchant (+20)~~ is gonna make this baby the best rogue/shammy/fury/hunter/kitty ring shown so far in WoTLK.

Last time i checked you can make some ridiculous amount of gold via dailies in a month something like 5-7k if you do 20 plus quests a day every day...
So i dont think it'll be a issue to afford this ring and YET again its not meant to be OWNED by everyone... of course unless you put the time in...
As a shaman i must be honest seems like a waste... heath and astral recall more dan enuff

I love how almost everyone focus's solely on the hearthstone aspect of it. Even if it didn't have a teleport to dalaran effect I would probably buy it. It's a nice way to get some gear to help make it easier to jump the gap from instances to raids. Also depends of course on what other rings are available and how big of a deal 7600 gold is in wotlk, but it seems like a nice thing to me.

Well we have a Caster and a melee dps version chances are we may see a tank one as well.

I was curious of how valuable this ring would be in wotlk endgame content. so i started looking at iLevels in Wow's raiding history:
Vanilla wow character lvl 50-60 ilevels = 52-92 or a total of 40 Ievels from ungoro to Naxx.
Tbc character lvl 60-70 ilevels = 81 - 164 or a total of 83 ilevels from Hellfire to Sunwell
Wotlk character lvl 70-80 ilevels released so far = 130 - 200 or a total of 70 ilevels from then newb zone to this vendor loot.

I then looked at the Lowest item level item in the first raid of each installment of wow.

Vanilla = 65 or 13 iLvls higher then lvl 50 gear or 35% of the way to the highest ilvl which was 92
Tbc = 115 or 34 iLvls higher then lvl 60 gear or 40% of the way to the highest ilvl which is 164
wotlk = ? 37.5% of 70(which is the number of ilvls estimated to gain in wotlk from what we have seen released so far) we get an ilvl of 156 for the lowest iLvl item dropped in the first raid instance.

You may have noticed a pattern in the span or ilvls from Vanilla to tbc, they almost doubled. If this trend were to continue we would see a high ilvl of 290 or an ilvl span of 130-290 or a gain of 160 ilvls in Wotlk. If this were the case using our figure of 37.5% gain in ilvl from lvl70 to our first peice of raid loot we would come up with 190 beginner raid ilvl. This ring is ilvl 200 which would make this ring the Violet signet of wotlk.

Although, if the max ilvl stays around 200 this ring would be more like Band of Ruinous Delight From sunwell or Band of the Eternal Champion of Hyjal Summit.

To summarize:
It all depends on the span of the ilvls in wotlk this could either be then new Violet signet or Band of Ruinous Delight.

Cost:
now 8k may sound like a large amount of gold to spend on one item regardless of the quality, but lets look at what we may be earning in wotlk.
I haven't done much reading on the cash flow in wotlk but I did come across one article about a someone earning 2k by level 77. That is quite a bit considering this guy wasnt likely pinching every penny and those last 3 levels will more then double his take. I dont think it is overly optimistic to think you would only be a few thousand shy of 8k when you hit 80 if you dont go overboard on professions. Also, there will be no mount to buy when you finally do hit 80.

Utility:
Assuming you bought this and replaced it with something better. Is that hearth worth 8k gold to you?
How often do you find your Hearth is on cd when you want to use it. Only time I can think of is when I
have just used it to leave an instance and jumped in a portal to browse the ah. That is Not that often
in my case, having a bank alt to do all my shopping. Although, the description reads "teleports you to
dalaran(0hour cooldown)" from this i would assume that the ring has its own cooldown of 0 (no
telling if this will stay this way) there for freeing you up to set your hearth to your other favorite major
city then letting you port back at anytime to dalaran.

It seems that when one reaches the max level in WotlK this will be the most readily available ring that has the stats required for endgame raiding. If people have had money saved from pre-wotlk, it looks to be worth saving it for this item.

Although there may well be other items e.g. weapons available from Quatermasters, this looks to be a worth while item to have when starting to gear up for those end-game raids. The iLevel shows that this is definately a ring in it's own right, not just a second hearthstone.

Furthermore there will be no level 80 mount or flying mount to use so this could just be another thing to blow your money on. :)

You can set your hearth to something else, and use this to ring to get to all the major cities.

For example I would set my hearth to Area 52 when I was raiding The Eye in BC.

Maybe not the hugest use, but the freedom to set your hearthstone to whatever suits your immediate needs is a welcome change.

In addition, currently Kirin Tor reputation reduces the cost of this ring. At level 80 on beta you either start out friendly, or get it by default through normal questing. This made the price of the ring 8075g.

It's worth noting that this ring is almost identical to Sealing Ring of Grobbulus, which is found in Naxx-10. That may influence your decision to spend ~8000 gold. It's worth considering, however, that in early WotLK it may be difficult for your guild to down bosses in Naxx without a few of your DPSers buying these rings.

I suspect that, once WotLK matures, these rings will be less important as new raiders will get "free" epics from their more established guilds.

I for one will definitely be buying this ring for my feral druid when I turn 80.

Am I correct in assuming that if you build up your rep with Kirin Tor (seeing as the vendor is listed as part of the faction) I will get the 20% faction discount? Now given my math is correct, will this make the price 6800 gold at exalted? Can anyone confirm this please? Personally I think 8500 gold is somewhat excessive even with increased opportunities to get gold at level 80, however a 20% discount might just make this a viable purchase.

This ring will no doubt become outdated with the introduction of new raid instances, as there are already other rings that are on par with/bettter than it from raid instances and badge rewards.

But like walkere said, the main benefit of this ring is having the flexibility to set your hearth to anywhere you want, for example to the Shadow Vault in Icecrown if you're working on Ebon Blade and regularly do dailies there, or pretty much anywhere you travel to frequently.

i have ruby slippers on my lock, it does share a cooldown with my hearth (so i just tossed the hearth). but ruby slippers can be set to any location, just like a hearthstone.

this seems to indicate it only goes to dalaran, so it might not share a cooldown with your hearthstone, which would be awesome!

The teleport may lose some of its usefulness compared to now in the next patch, as hearthstone cooldown is being reduced to 30 minutes. However, the teleport will still be handy if your hearth is set somewhere other than Dalaran.

Lets say so.
This is not the ring for those, who is going to farm gold for it...(especially if you don't like farming gold...) because you will be disappointed later, when you upgrade it (maybe very soon).
This is a ring for those people, having tones of gold so that those 8k g won't do any damage to them :)
Now it has become a currency for Inscribed Band of the Kirin Tor
That means you are gonna have upgrades for it lifetime of WotlK as i guess, but it will never be the endgame ring tho. while 3.1 items are iLevel 226+++ this one has 213.

and additionally nowadays 30min HS after patch.. I don't use the HS that often even. 1 is totally enaugh.

With the removal of portals in Dalaran this ring is nearly just an achievement for 6.8k gold. If you have Crusader by now you likely have the tabard which will take you to the tournament. Close enough to Dalaran if you ask me. In Cataclysm you shouldn't need more than one port to Northrend at 85. Kind of a shame. Would be nice if Blizzard would add a portal in Dalaran that at least connects it and Shattarath.

This is apparently now refundable. I put off getting the achievement for ages due to the large gold requirement, but I got it today and it had the blue notice giving me 2 hours for a full refund of the 6,800g.

Just bought the ring today for the achieve, sold it back immediately and kept the acheivement so its effectively free as long as you have the money to buy it in the first place. You can also do this with the mounts sold by Mel Francis.
