One really interesting thing about the change to caster gear (a single "spellpower" stat affecting both damage and healing) is that it makes some damage gems into more viable options for healers, and vice versa. For example, the "teardrop" design will be defunct, and replaced by the "runed" design that both healers and DPS can derive full benefit from.

The gem designs that are affected by this change:

Reckless (spell/haste, formerly dmg/haste - now a good option for healers)
Luminous (spell/int, formerly heal/int - now better as an option for DPS casters, though DPS casters rarely gem for int)
Runed (displaces "teardrop" for healers)
Glowing (spell/stam, formerly dmg/stam - now better for healers needing Stamina)
Bracing (meta, spell/threat reduction, good for threat-capped DPS classes)
Ember (meta, spell/int, improves its viability for healers)

This gem is the best an Elemental Shammy can use to get the required 2 blue slots for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41285 if you're already hitcapped. Alternatively, use http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40166 if you need the +hit.

Remember: when talking about epic gems, the split ones (Purple, Orange, Green) will give a greater bonus than the pure ones (Red, Blue, Yellow). For example, if you need both SP and Haste and have 2 slots to fill, it would be better to get 2 http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40155 (total gain of 24 sp and 20 haste) as opposed to one each of http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40113 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40128 (total gain of 23 sp and 20 haste). This is, of course, not including any socket bonuses.

This is indeed a very good gem, has two of the better stats for casters/healers/ranged.
