I once read that Draenei blood is tinted blue by cobalt in the same way that human blood is made red by iron.

well, in the warcraft universe, High elves, blood elves, humans, Mag'Har orcs, dwarves, gnomes, and night elves genetic coding for hemoglobin uses iron along with almost all natural Azzerothian and draenor creatures (anyone know what troll blood is colored? seriously, i dont)

orcs, fel orcs, and fel blood elves use copper (copper can be red, orange, or mint green)

draenei use cobalt in their genetic coding

and for those who wonder why we can wear this and thorium armor (although seriously, thorium is both radioactive and weighs too much to wear in solid breastplates, which are already 10 pounds using aluminum), is because its a solid, not a powder, and what you mine in slithus is depleted thorium, not enough to kill you

Well.

I would not go to compare World of Warcraft to real life, since there is so many things that makes sense from point of view of our world (ie. metal names, rarities etc.)

Anyhow, this appears to be First metal that is mined from outlands and seems to be way more useful than Fel Iron was in TBC, as you can make quite few different sets froms this metal (set with similar names, but not with bonuses atleast yet)

I am really interested to see how rare this stuff will be.

Dont be fooled by the Price that Wowhead is giving, atm iv seen prices for ores/bars/herbs go up to 300g per stack...

Great money maker for those who sell this stuff, but !@#$ for anyone who has to buy their materials for a living to get their proffs up.

Hopefully when the WotLK craze dies down, the prices will turn to something reasonable.

I ate one. It didn´t taste that good. And my stomach hurts...

Day 3 after eating the cobalt bar:
My stomach hurts even worse and I haven´t been able to go to the bathroom in 3 days. I have also felt very tired.

Day 6:
My stomach hurts. And I have a strange urge to go north all the time.

Day 9:
My skin is starting to get blue and yesterday I got stuck to a magnet for about 3 hours before I got away. I feel even worse than that time I drank 15 bottles of Barlett´s bitter brew.

Day 15: I´m bluer than that woman in X-man and I´m almost flying north towards Northrend. By some reason I have a large pack of mechanicals hanging after me screaming "Brother"

The Hemoglobin similar protein that makes certain Arthropods blood blue instead of regular red is called Hemocyanin

Hemocyanins (also spelled haemocyanins) are respiratory proteins in the form of metalloproteins containing two copper atoms that reversibly bind a single oxygen molecule (O2). Oxygenation causes a color change between the COLORLESS Cu(I) deoxygenated form and the BLUE Cu(II) oxygenated form. They are second only to hemoglobin in biological popularity of use in oxygen transport. Tl;Dr: Their blood is blue due to the fact that the protein (Hemocyanin) uses Copper (Cu) to bind the Oxygen (O) molecules to the blood, instead of Iron (Fe), which is used in regular Hemoglobin which 99% of all animals on the earth uses as Oxygen transport protein.
Copper has the ability to turn Blue when it is oxygenated (The same thing that happens when Iron Rust and turn Red
