This trinket is much better for feral druids then any other tanks i think.. druids dont have any form of def on tier or any other leather gear (other then clefthoof ofc). Its hard to keep the def cap and get enough dodge/hp, so this will be damn nice upgrade =) Lovin it

IMO, this is borderline worthless. Most tanking gear has plenty of passive def rating on it already that you don't need this crazy amount of def rating on a trinket. This would just force people to shift gear around in order to not over-compensate for the 415/490 def rating required. For Warriors, excessive def rating translates into other values (Block, Parry, Dodge etc), but for Feral Druids the extra def rating is almost worthless beyond just adding a few points to dodge. where pure agility is better. I hope they change this trinket to +Stamina or +Dodge, or something. The rest of the new stones are pretty nice though.

this is definitely not worth the vortexes. the only usefulness it provides would be to allow versatility in gearing other slots before you have epics. once you have epics, your gear will compensate for defense while providing versatility anyway. and if you're in blues and use this for versatility, there's really not a whole lot of gear to be versatile with.

if you're a tank, i would go with the attack power trinket instead.

Having this much defense on a trinket allows you to reitemize your other gear. There is lots of nice +block rating, +dodge rating, +stamina gear that doesn't have defense. It will now be possible to use more of this gear.

Did a number crunch -

I know some that some numbers are rounded to integers in game, but here you go from the items:

Shadowmoon Insignia has 3.5164% Avoidance - Dodge, Parry, Miss; and .6088% block.
Guardian's Stone has 2.7396% Avoidance - Dodge, Parry, Miss; and .9132% block.

Shadowmoon Insignia has .7768% more Avoidance, but the Guardian's Stone has .3044% more block.

Compared to http://wowhead.com/?item=28528 - Moroes' Lucky Pocket Watch - both trinkets have more passive Avoidance, which has 2.01% chance passive and 15.85% on use.

Defense does great things after 490. Rage starvation happens when you heroic strike / don't use your abilities effectively.

What is better +15 to tall stats or 52 def?

if you're a patient alchemist and take your time to farm/craft the mats, you will save your self several hundred gold. primal might, skyfire diamond, earhstorm diamond - these items are transmutable, however if you're not going to wait for your 22 hour cooldown for several days in a row then expect to spend some gold, 800-1000 easily

hey earlier i asked what the total price was, i got this stone on my warrior tank on Hydraxis for a total of 1240 Gold, i A.H. all the mats, this is just for the people who are to lazy to go mat hunting and want to see how much this will cost them.

Another question, by transmuting your alchemist stone into this one, is it possible to create an extra alchemist stone? I know they are unique but it would be nice to keep the original one and a guardian for different purposes is this possible?

This trinket is good for tanks trying to become defense cap while in resist gear.

There are 6 epic trinkets in the game that have defense and two of them are Profession related. The first piece you'll get in BC drops off of hydross, if that tells you anything...

To get a better view about how « good » this item actually is, you can convert the 40% mana increase from drinking potions into mp5.

A Super Mana Potion gives you 2400 mana on average, this Alchemist Stone will give you around 960 extra mana every time you use a Super Mana Potion (2400 + 40% = 3360 mana on average Super Mana Potion use)
In very long/long boss fights (in short ones you won’t get oom anyway), if you drink a potion whenever the cooldown (2 minutes) is up, you would get:

960 / 120 = 8 mana per second from this trinket or 40mp5

All in all, with optimal use, this trinket can be seen as:

Huh?

Sorry, but I fail to see how 40 mp/5 makes this item so good. Of the 4 new alchemist stones, this one will obviously only be used by tanks, as a DPS or healer will have much more use for any of the other 3. And there is only one tanking class that uses mana to begin with - prot paladins.

However, I fail to see that this item has any use besides becoming uncrittable in either resist gear or very early tank gear (it's dead easy for a newly 70 tank to become uncrittable from just quest & BoE items). Mp/5 is not a very valuable stat for tankadins, despite the fact that Blizzard used to allocate some stats to it on tank gear at some point (they seem since to have grown some more sense). In an easy instance bosses & trash groups will die so fast that you won't have to worry about maintaining threat for a long time anyway. In difficult instances you will take enough damage for Spiritual Attunement to provide a steady supply of mana through healing.

And yes, it does provide a bonus to healing potions as well, which in some fights could be useful. If not for the fact that in most fights where you're likely to get anywhere near low health, chaining Ironshield Potions is almost always the better approach as it reduces the likelyhood of "oh &*!@" moments to begin with.

Not a bad trinket as such, but as many have already indicated, highly situational. If you're a tankadin and reading this, unsure about which professions to pick for the best possible gear, don't choose alchemy but go for 2 out of 3 of:

Engineering (Tankatronic Goggles, Goblin Rocket Launcher).
Jewelcrafting (Figurine - Crimson Serpent as well as Figurine - Empyrean Tortoise for the same situations as where you'd use this alch stone, even if the def is slightly lower; and Falling Star).
Blacksmithing (Boots of the Protector or Red Havoc Boots).

Of course, for a holy paladin Alchemy is a much better profession, and for a healadin building a tank set this trinket is definitely a good choice to craft if you can afford the materials.

Given the healthy amount of def rating on this, this trinket can last you into level 80 raids. It is a good trinket to have for making the 540 Def rating cap.

This trinket, with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44323 can give you a nice amount of avoidance, stam, and the added bonus of the 40% on health and mana pots.

An excellent tank trinket combo.
