This can also be done in a raid.

Unfortunately, you can only visit the instance 5 times per hour regardless of how many people you bring, so that means less loot for everyone.

As the poster they are not DEable, but also they are NOT possible to sell to vendor so actually there is no need to greed if you don't need it.

I've killed him 20 times. I've got this ring 4 times, the pumpkin mask twice, and caster rings every other time. So like...20% drop chance for me.

To make this post useful, I'll post the macro I'm using. For the longest time I had to look around to find the head after it fell off, then I started using this macro
/target Head of the Horseman
Pretty simple, but it makes it a whole lot easier.

This is an extremely simple ring to get with almost any party of 70s.

1. Go to Scarlet Monastery Graveyard (note: there is no need to have a quest or get a quest first).

2. Kill all of the ghosts and ghouls around the crypt with the big pumpkin sitting in front of it.

3. One party member clicks on the pumpkin, gets a candle. He then clicks on the pile of dirt behind the pumpkin.

4. The horseman will land in the graveyard to the right of the small crypt. His initial agro will be on whoever used the candle.

Horseman fight:

Phase 1: Tank and spank down to 0%. At 0%, the head splits off and the body becomes undamageable and untauntable, though it still whirlwinds. Avoid it, find the head and DPS the head.

Phase 2: When the head takes enough damage, it will return to the body, which will go back to 100% health. Tank and spank again. During this phase, the horseman will randomly place a debuff on a party member other than the player with top agro which will cause some fire damage, and more importantly will cause a disorient like effect and cause that player to do damage to any other characters he is near. If this gets on melee DPS and the tank doesn't move the horseman, it could cause a wipe. The head will come off again at 0% just as in phase 1.

Phase 3: No more fire. The horseman will toss out about 6adds who will sit on the ground as pumpkins briefly, then sprout and go beat the healer to death. They should be thunderclaped or consecrated back onto the tank. DPS should stay on the huntsman, then switch to his head to finish the fight, as bringing the head to 0% this time will end the encounter and all the adds will die.

This is an extremely easy encounter which most reasonably skilled 70s even in greens should be able to do without much trouble. That said, you do need a real tank to hold the horseman, he will hit for about 4000 on cloth.

I could see a wipe happening if the adds get to the healer in phase 3. Other than that it's pretty unlikely.

It counts as a daily quest, and each party member can only start the encounter once per day. In addition, in the unlikely event that you do not kill the huntsman, you don't get a second activation.

There seems to be a bug which will occasionally allow players who have already done the encounter to get a second candle and do it again in the same day after changing parties. It has happened once to me.

Each of the rings appears to have about a 20% drop rate, though the AP ring has dropped far less than the other two in my experience. The helm and the pet are definitely a much lower drop rate, 5 or 10%

The rings cannot be DEed and have no sale value.

In every encounter I've run, one of the 4 brooms has dropped in addition to other loot (1 slow ground, 1 fast ground, 1 slow flying, 1 fast flying). I haven't detected any difference in drop rate. They are Bind on Use and can be transferred, but they can't be listed on the AH.

Finally, everyone in the party will get piles of candy which give a short minor runspeed increase, and the body generally gives 3-5 weighted pumpkin heads which allow you to either make your character or another character look like he or she has a Jack-O-Lantern head.

Just a thought, but this ring might be a reference to "The Haunted Mansion" ride at Disneyland.

At the beginning of the ride, the "Ghost Host" says:
