T5 are still better in side by side match up. Plus VR is a push over. So if you already have T5, let these go to an OT (if they dont already have T5) or one of your dps warriors for when they have to tank.

2 blue sockets and a really nice socket bonus. Looks like we can finally have our cake and eat it too...The block rating/block value is more than worth the loss of spell damage from T5, especially with all the new tanking heroic badge rewards which make up for it.

This dropped in the chest after killing Nalorakk (the bear avatar) in the time limit, contrary to seeing them listed under Akil'zon (the eagle avatar).

As I understand it, the boss you kill first, if killed within the time limit, will spawn a chest that has a piece of armor in it, and this could be that armor.

Better than Tankadin Tier-5 for stamina, similar for mitigation: 3.55% block vs 0.8% parry.

Definitely something I'm going to pick up for my "block set", already have the Jungle Stompers, the shield and the mace from ZA. Great zone for gearing up for SSC/TK.

For Paladin tanks remember this: you don't need intellect.

Much of the tier gear has intellect on it and you just don't need much if any of it. A few pieces to get you to 4.5-5K mana so that you can unload some threat at the front end is all you need. Judge wisdom and between that and 'sympathy mana' from healing you'll be just fine.

These shoulders have a smidge less armor and defense than T5, a lot more avoidance (pushing crushes off in the form of block rating), and no int or spell damage. You don't need the int and the loss of 22 spell damage isn't as important as the gains in stam and avoidance that you get.

For AoE trash tanking the T5 shoulders might be more useful but the reality is that these are probably the best shoulders you can get before T6.

I just got these on my paladin the other day. A good upgrade compared to the Kara Mantle of Abrahims and even the t4 shoulders in terms of tanking. And even with the lack of spell damage, I find these better for AoE tanking thank the t5 shoulders as well.

For aoe tanking, shield block rating and value are important, because that's going to be your biggest asset in avoiding and minimizing damage. When a mob is hitting you for 800 damage, and you absorb 300-500 of it with a block, you're cutting your damaging down significantly. And with the ability to stack spell damage other ways. Go with these rather than the t4 shoulders. Unless you need them to complete the set bonus.

And as said, you get these from downing the first boss on the timed event.

There's an 'unofficial' DPS and a Tank set in Zul'Aman you can collect if you are looking for matching armor. Sadly it is not a tier set, but cosmetically these pieces go together.
