Great leggings with the three sockets. Assuming you were into PvP, you could put three 12 stam gems in to get 72 stamina out of these leggings, compared to only 54 from the Arena Legs http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24555.

However, you do lose 26 resilence.

I do not believe there are other items in the game with this style of hyphenated name with CamelCase.

I wonder if the odd name was intentional--and if so, why--or whether this was some sort of typo or temporary name. It doesn't even seem to match the naming schemes of the various languages in the game.

I've not been able to find out anything--some players reported the name as a bug in Blizzard's forums but received no response.

I commented on this before, but my comment was rated down and apparently deleted. Apologies if this is entirely outside the realm of what should be commented on, but I hope that others who know about this item might be able to enlighten me.

Currently the highest possible stamina for cloth in game. Therefore w/the damage make best pvp legs in game IMO (for locks at least)

The drop rate is pretty acurate.

My guild has been downing opera for two months now (we got started in kara a little late =/) and over the past months we have been running 2 groups that have downed him.

I think total thats about 14-15 downs, and we've seen the legs drop twice.

I think I'll poop myself if I get these bad boys.

Trial-fire are great, and easy to get. Another pair, that is harder to get, but is very nice (for PVE) is this Doom Lord Kazzak drop, Leggings of the 7th Circle. I'd love to drop some +hit gems on these for bosses and keep my Trial-Fires (which have dmg and crit gems) for trash, or just fights where i need more stam.

Not surprisingly, the legs obtained through PvP (i.e. arena) are better for PvP, without any question.

These are amazing PvE legs and the three yellow sockets seem to be an open invitation to put spell hit gems in, which unless you are at the +hit cap (and a majority of Kara raiders aren't) is the biggest DPS boost you can give these legs.

Woot, got these last night at last cause my mage buddy with Spellstrike kindly passed.

Replaced my trusty Khadgar's; farmed some primals for Runic Spellthread, got 3 runed living rubies thus giving a whopping 111 +dmg on one item slot.

Dang. for mages, you can put three +8 resilience gems in here for the stats of

42 stam
40 int
24 resilience
49 spell dmg

Compared to Merciless legs :
-10 stam
+4 int
-6 resilience
-29 spell crit

Not bad at all considering those other arena points can be spent on another peice of gear and considering that spell critical is not too important for a frost mage, which most arena mages will be. And all for killing an easy boss in karazhan? why not.

I just got these - put 3x 4Crit 5Spelldamage Gems into them - and with these non-epic gems and a 35spelldam 20stam Runic Spellthread - you have a pair of pants with the Whopping stats of:
62 Stamina
40 Intel
16 Crit
104 Spelldamage... 104... awesome - oh so lovely mitch

I personally wanted more spell hit so I socketed them for pure spell hit with 3x Great Dawnstone.

I also put Runic Spellthread on.

Total stats:
62 Stamina
40 Intellect
89 Spell Damage
24 Spell Hit

Great option for those who aren't yet hit capped. And if you find you get a little above the cap, you can swap in a Veiled Noble Topaz for one of the Dawnstones, losing 4 hit but gaining 5 damage for each swap.

If you had all 3 sockets filled with the Veiled Noble Topaz (and of course still the spellthread from before) you'd end up with:
62 Stamina
40 Intellect
104 Spell Damage
12 Spell Hit

They may have good stats, but they are one of the uglier pants textures you can find (especially on male night elves!) I hope you have a dress if you win these!

Seriously, why would you put anything but + spell hit on these? If you're upgrading TO these, you need the spell hit anyways, probably. Gollveig is right, so is fmorrison.

Fact: Spell hit owns crit and even damage and haste UNTIL you are hitcapped. That is why Spellstrike gear REALLY rocks, and why the welfare epic S1 staff is so annoyingly hard to upgrade from. If you think otherwise you haven't been spending time analyzing your dps and dpm. Here it is again, the gospel of math backed fact:

Spell Hit>Haste>Damage>crit and forget about penetration unless your in arena. For Pure Arcane mages, Int falls in there too, but that spec is too dependent on SPs being in their group for long boss fights.

I know you think crit is awesome, and it is fun, but you HAVE TO HIT BEFORE YOU CAN CRIT. If you are hit capped you will crit more even with 4-5% less crit chance, because you will have a larger sample of spells to have a chance of critting from. remember at 70 level instances, raids and heroics, bosses get up to 73, so you will automatically have a higher chance to miss. When you see the "RESIST" come up, it really means "MISS." I think the math is like ...

1 SH = 3 CRIT. so 50 Spell hit is worth like 150 Crit in terms of overall damage output.
Check out a mathcraft site like Elitist Jerks sweet mage theory page, cuz I am sure as %^&* not writing out all those darn formulas again.

Furthermore, spell haste gets better as you get more of it, and at lower levels (of 70 gear :P ) damage>haste. But I hope you all don't take this advice because it makes me look better in raids to see a mage or caster boast high crit/dam and have like a 55 hit rating, and then I smoke him in recount.

When your guild wants to get a SWAT team like approach to Kara clears & ZA clears, for the badges, after they iron out the group makeup, your dps/dpm output will become well known. Your apparent high crit wont mean anything after they try out a hitcapped fire mage who all of a sudden makes you look like a noob. :) Of course, if your guild is constantly subbing out guys and never has a real fast clear, your probably safe if you just dont screw up, like move around when yer flame wreathed from Shade or something. But for those who want a spot in a 3.5 hr clear group, or whose guild wants to put gruuls/mag on farm as they start looking down the road to SSC, dps slots get really competitive in a good sized guild. Dont be the guy who thinks he's going but gets booted at the last minute all the time after waiting 40 minutes or so when someone better pops up. Get your hit up.
