Mostly useless now, probably best regarded as vendor trash.

The jewelcrafting recipes are world drop or require exalted Shattered Sun faction rep (which most levelling JCs won't have), meaning that most people will cut the trainer-taught WotLK-era green gems for 350+ JCing.

With the introduction of BoA helms not many people are going to be making mat-intensive engineer-only level 70 helms and the engineer made gun is a world drop with fairly expensive mat requirements that has similar stats to an entry level WotLK quest item.
