Dropped from Rei Lun in the "Halls of the Serpent" in Guo-Lai Halls in the Vale. Spawns at the very bottom of the zone (Go straight once you enter & immediately down to the lowest portion.) You do NOT need to have a cloak to be able to loot the scale OR to be able to turn it in. As long as you're able to see the updated vale you're able to loot the scale. (Will update this comment if anyone needs, trying to give as much helpful information as possible(also my first comment on Wowhead, apologies))

Only spawns during Mogu invasions in the Vale. Thus, during Mantid and Black Empire invasions, Rei Lun will NOT spawn.

I couldn't find anything about the respawn timer- so from my low sample size of 2 (just missed the kill of one) to the next one respawning, was 45min. Hope that helps!

This is a rare drop from 瑞龙 who appears in the Guo-Lai Halls, Pandaria when the Asssault: The Warring Clans is live. This rare can be killed once per day for a chance at the scale.

Reports indicate a 40-minute to 1 hour respawn timer.

The entrance to the halls is in a cave /way 22.09 24.03 Guo-Lai Halls
When you get through the corridor, go directly ahead, past the altar and to the arch
Make a note of the tile pattern at the entrance
Follow the maze, stepping only on that pattern tile - heal up if you mis-step
When you reach a Mogu statue, stop before you reach its feet and wait for the cast to finish
Head down the steps and up to the final platform

The scale can be redeemed for the reins at the Rajani quartermaster in the cave East of Mistwall Village.

Got it today (EU).
We were 3, it didn't drop for the others.
Beware, this rare has some deadly attacks, avoid AOEs and breath.

Dropped for me today after about 50 attempts, but i've seen also 3 drops in 15 man group so maybe it's not that rare or maybe just luck. Anyways good luck farming.

Definitely not a 1% drop rate.
I've realm hopped and killed Rei Lun at least 250 times now. No drop.
I've seen it drop roughly 60 times for other players. It's hard to confirm whether you can farm it on one character or not. The players I have seen it drop for often don't have any other loot with it.
The drop rate needs increasing soon. This is torture. 18 hours of my life wasted.
It's also really stupid how it's only available during a Mogu Assault.

I received the scale on the first ever personal attempt of killing the rare. Not sure if insanely lucky or drop chance is higher than originally thought as others have speculated.

Based on my experience and comparing notes with guildies, Rei Lun seems to respawn 30-60 minutes after a kill (only during mogu invasions). He resets daily, so each character has 4 chances per mogu invasion to loot the scale. He does drop loot for characters that haven't begun the 8.3 introductory questline. These mounts are starting to become common just 4 weeks into 8.3, so the drop chance is probably comparable to Huolon. Unlike the heavenly onyx, we all stand a realistic chance to obtain one of these in our lifetime.

UPDATE: After 100+ kills, the shortest respawn time I've seen was 30 minutes. The longest was 59 minutes. Most seem to fall within the 40-50 minute range.

I can confirm that you don't need any quests from the 8.3 story line to be able to trade this in. I was able to see the vendor and get the mount on a level 120 DH without even starting the initial quest.

For mount collectors out there that don't want to do the cloak multiple times, there's good news! Just do the first couple of quests and accept 泰坦的问题. That's as far as you need to go. Confirmed it on my alts.

Since AzerateAeriePeak was insisting you didn't need any of the questline to see the 120 mobs, I'm posting screen shots on a fresh 120.

I was told "Talk to the NPC to show you the current vale again." This NPC isn't there if you don't have up to A Titanic Problem in your questlog. And no, my fresh 120 has not done a single LFR. Here is she is again at Rei Lun's spawn point. As you can see, there's no buff on her for being in the past and the level 90 pink dragon (Milau) is hoovering where Rei Lun should be.

Tried to get it with all my Twinks (12) since 8.3 came out and everytime Rei Lun is available. No luck yet. It gets frustrating !

So I have a doubt about this item: I read on this page that you can accept the quest a titanic problem and go to vale and kill rei lun without doing any following quests to unlock vale, and that's right, I killed him, I got AP, coa visions and occasionally the 410-415 boa gear, however I never got the scale in a relatively high amount of kills: 182, and my question is: is there anyone who managed to get the scale to drop on a char that hadn't unlocked the rajani faction?

I'm wondering especially cause the npc to turn in the scale is inside the rajani base, so perhaps there could be a further requirement, such as having met the rajani faction, before being able to get the scale, does anyone know?

Dropped for me today, during Mogu Invasion. Thought I would try it out and got it on my 1st attempt...
First time I've got a mount 1st attempt :)

Yeah this is becoming a joke now. 400 attempts and nothing. No rare NPC's mount should take longer to get than raid boss mounts.

Finally got it after countless tries during the past TWO YEARS, I can finally stop paying attention to what assault is up every few days, which make my life much much much easier. Thank god.

Can confirm that the mount can drop even if you HAVEN'T unlocked the assault. All you need is to get the phase and you are able to loot the mounts. You unlock the phase by doing the following:

1) Unlock BFA WQs
2) Nazjatar intro up to 心之熔炉
- It starts with 派遣舰队 / 派遣舰队
3) Start the 8.3 qline with 意外的顾问 / 黑王子归来 and up to ACCEPTING 泰坦的问题 (you dont need to complete this quest, just to have it in your questlog and you are good to go)

Hope this helps you save time for alt farming :)

My mother destroyed TWO of these on two characters... not knowing what they were for! Now she's trying to get it to drop again and is thoroughly depressed she didn't check what it was for first. :(

Is the scale tradable? In case a character has the mount but still farms the scale together with a friend who doesn't have it.

I got this mount after 210 kills finally. Some facts that are summarized

1. Respawn timer is 30-60 mins, I recorded and timed the kills to an extent that I can confirm that it will not spawn earlier than 30 mins before last kill or later than 60 mins from the last kill. Average of my kills respawn was oddly enough 44,7 minutes over 80 kills. The recorded kills is lower because I juggled a lot of shards.
2. It does not spawn to a fresh shard and will not spawn until the shard has been up for 30 mins and follows the 30-60 min spawn timer
3. Scale is tradeable
4. It does spawn when assault has been up for 1 minute after the change but the shard has to have been live before the assault changes.

- This Rare can be killed once per day per character
- You can be phased if your character don't have Zidormi unlocked
- Respawn time is between 30 - 60 mins
- It drop around 2%

Finally got this mount after 287 attempts!

Got it on a toon that didn't unlock the full assault only the zone with the quest a titanic problem

I felt like giving up after the 200 mark glad i didn't because of the long spawn times and would miss alot of kills so you would have to wait there

Could only farm it every second week during warring clan assault for 3 days
