Anyone know what determines the color of the staff? I have the red one and it's the Heroic version, if difficulty means anything.

This staff will randomly bug out and appear Pink instead of Orange in the dressing room for me. Anyone else experiencing this?

Wow, an item from WOD without one of three cookie cutter templates! For real though, this is one of the best mage xmog weapons probably since BC or early Wrath, if only the blue version wasn't such a pain to get with all the noobs in reg, red looks great however.

The NPCs in Auchindoun carry a purple version of this staff. Maybe it will become available for players.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm a mage trying this like forever and I never get the staff. Almost every week, both heroic and normal through specific dungeons, since the release of the expansion, and nothing!

If you want the non-heroic version of this bad boy as much as I did and can't find a group (like I did), I've got good news: she's perfectly soloable in 704 PvP gear.
The trick is to "survive" into her Arcane phase. I used an Arcane spec with Overpowered, Unstable Magic, RoP, Cold Snap (with Rune of Regenerative Ice obviously, though I didn't always need it) and Alter Time.
Begin to burst her, Alter Time when her first spell hits, Iceblock when you get low (be sure you get out early enough to interrupt Parasitic Growth), Cold Snap, repeat.
Once she's in Arcane her damage becomes almost negligible, even for a Mage with nearly zero healing.

Purple, instead of red version, dropped on Heroic :(
It looks as if the red version doesn't exist on WoWhead but does in-game journal thingie.
