This is the 25 man Protection Paladin t8 set. There will be gear tokens available from the 25man version of Ulduar. (25 man gives the Conquerer Set)

The gear's iLevel 226, which is on par with Kel'thuzad gear from naxx25.

We can assume that the final boss in Ulduar 25 man will drop gear with an iLevel of 239

I've been wondering about the 4pc bonus of this set.

Can anyone speculate if it applies the block value before or after the attack itself does damage? This will either make it a great threat increase and decent mitigation, or just the mitigation which may or may not be worth using over several ilvl 239 pieces.

Edit: It's been confirmed by a blue that the block value will indeed be applied to Shield of the Righteousness as well. Making this set very good for building threat and having some extra mitigation.

Unless taking so many hits that all 8 Holy Shield charges were getting burned up, block rating is absolutely worthless to Paladin tanks. Helm of the Faceless is a perfect substitute, it's loaded with avoidance, and better gem sockets.

The sockets are difficult to fill. I wished the set would have the sockets of the warrior T8 (which has 0 red and therefore a couple more blues). As jewelcrafters Dragon Eye's are limited to three while equipped it pretty much comes down to:

Sovereign Twilight Opal (stamina + threat/block)
or
Regal Twilight Opal (stamina + mitigation)

Note:
Defender'sTwilight Opal ist not a good choice as parry gives less mitigation then dodge and accumulates deminishing returns faster. If you are very low on parry this might be incorrect.

Assuming the way of most drops from mobs, the helmet will be dropping of the last boss, making it the most difficult to get. So it really shouldnt be an issue with being unhittable except for lower end content and will put you nicely set up for the next raid instances when they arive.

I just dont get what we are suposed to do with all the red slots. Both DK's and Warriors get 4 blue slots, why would we need 4 Red slots?

Looking at the sets and they look more or less balanced but again, the Paladin stats dont stand out and say good for this boss. Looking at the other sets i can see the roles in boss tanking but Paladins look a bit in-between.

If Blizz want block to be our mechanic then i feel we need a bit more than the 225 off a boss hit..

When you are looking at 10% of a 10K hit compared to 225 of a 10K hit who will be taking more damage. I am not saying its worthless, it's just not somthing i want to sacrifice stamina dodge and parry for. Oh wait i dont need to stack it /smacks forehead i get 225 from four peices...

Before someone goes walloping on about extra threat - its really never an issue especially if you get a head start on the raid - i never do of course, allways have a few dps jumping the gun but they never catch me for long and its never an issue.

I cant help feeling boxed into the trash tank slot - gee thanks Bliz i see that in LFG all the time need a trash tank for Nax or else we simply wont go...

Even raid trash tends to hit harder than a sheildblock being usefull; so i am getting the feeling Paladins are simply to be 5 man tanks and they can heal in raids. I just feel a bit robbed they must know we are one of the most dedicated tank classes, is that why they nerf us so much? Every patch i am just hoping to see one killer peice of kit that opens that raid door wide for the Prot pala and i never seem to get it from my class gear. Not only that, the way our mechanic works you allways need some balance I end up with several sets in my bags - it would be nice if our teir gear was the back bone of our set, as it is i think it will be filler gear again :(

Known tokens locations as of 16th April@04:45AM are:

Head: Thorim.
Chest: Hodir.
Hands: Mimiron.
Leggings: Freya.
Spaulders: Unknown yet, but Ensidia has cleaned every boss except Yogg-saron at the time of writing, therefore it's safe to assume the spaulders drop off the one and only remaining boss; Yogg-saron.

This comment will probably get downrated over time as the database gets filled and links are being fixed between the items and their respective tokens but if you want the info in the meantime, at least... it's "there".

Clearly, this set is focussed a lot more on avoid than mitigation stats. Probably because of the huge incoming damage in some bosses, that would make you think that paladins are not suitable for maintanking them.

The 4 piece set bonus is currently bugged, while it is adding the proper amount of block value to your blocks, Shield of Righteousness will not get it's own +30% damage multiplier.

This gear looks so bad! It dosent even look like plate, more like leather or even cloth. I seariousy think that blizzard should change its graphics, I mean since it is tier 8 it should look good, I would even wield tier7 instead of tier 8 even if it would make my stats worse.

We all know Pally doesn't have great HP compared to other tanks to begin with.
The 1st thing I was told once Ulduar started was: "Pallys ain't fit for Uld, low HP" fact is it is always been like this still people do Pally tanks. we will never have Warrior Druid or DK hp, forget about it, fact is they will never have all Pally benefits in mitigating stats or threat (DK kinda does but is a hero class and they don't even have a shield so screw them)
Obvuiusly 4 red sockets will make us pick for more mitigate stats, I guess most of people will rely on Regal Twilight Opal but personally I'd go with 2 of those, 1 Precise Scarlet Ruby and 1 Delicate Scarlet Ruby
OR
3 Regal twilights and 1 precise.

Incredible stats but i agree with m4ko because paladin tanks are great for crowd control and holding multiple people as other pick them off but if we had blues sockets like those of a warrior we could be even better.

Still i dont get why they brought back the Kilt because unless its the one from T2 ( Judgement Armor ) then dont try to remake it

We all know Pally doesn't have great HP compared to other tanks to begin with.

This is not true. Yes, a druid with a similar gear level will have significantly more health, and with certain specs DK's will have a bit more as well (though not all DK tank specs). However we are pretty much on par with warriors: we get a lower base health (warriors only gain health when they ding, pallies gain some health and some mana), but we get a higher stamina multiplier from talents.

In fact this means health wise, paladin tanks scale better with increased gear than warriors do, and although I haven't done the exact maths my feeling based on tanks of either class I encounter in game is that even with pre-Ulduar best in slot items paladins already have the advantage over warriors health wise.

Also, socketing expertise as a paladin is something I'd strongly recommend against. With most of our attacks not being parry-able the advantage is really minor - much better off socketing avoidance than expertise which gives you a chance to avoid all attacks, not just parry-hasted ones.

I'm not a huge fan of trash-posts with irrelevant personal drivel, but I'll make an exception for this particular set (since it's worth it) -

As a female belf tankadin, this is simply put, The Set to wear since I was lv60 and in female human form with t2. While t6 looked awsome, anything that has legs looks ridicilous on females (especially belfs with the most ugly combat animations ever). I'm glad to feel like an ironclad valkyrie (again). However, I guess alot of male characters won't approve.. so it'd be schmexy if Blizzard just let us chose between looks, as we chose between sets.

T2 > T6 > rest, but now we have this set up there sniffing below T2. I for one love this and don't want to wear anything else when tanking. Thanks Blizz, much love. Keep making skirts on our sets, please. ;)
