The Threads of Fate is a new leveling system added in the Shadowlands expansion. Inspired by the Adventure Mode of Diablo III, Threads of Fate grants a different leveling experience for alts in Shadowlands. The Threads of Fate system allows alts to level through Shadowlands content by completing world quests and other assorted bonus objectives, experiencing the expansion in a non-linear way.
Threads of Fate is automatically unlocked for your account once you level a character to 60, choose a Covenant, and complete Chapter 1 of the campaign.
In this guide, we will go through how to unlock Threads of Fate, what can you do while using the system, and rewards granted by it.
Why Should I Use Threads of Fate?
Threads of Fate is an entirely new leveling experience and a refreshing way to level a character from 50 to 60.
Benefits from leveling using Threads of Fate over replaying the Shadowlands storyline include being able to start working earlier on grinding reputations for the Shadowlands factions, as well as being able to choose a Covenant right away and familiarizing yourself with the covenant abilities in a more free-form way.
It is currently unknown if Threads of Fate is a faster way to level from 50 to 60.
How to Activate Threads of Fate
The first time you level through the Shadowlands expansion, you must follow the normal linear storyline that has you pass the four main zones in a specific order. However, on your second character and beyond, you are able to choose how you're going to level through the expansion.
To activate the Threads of Fate system, you must first complete the Shadowlands Introduction Questline in The Maw, or complete the Maw skip if this option is open to you. Once you successfully complete The Maw and arrive in Oribos,
命运撰写师罗-塔尔
will stop time and approach you, offering the quest
命运丝线
. At this point, you must choose whether you want to level by following the Shadowlands storyline or by using the Threads of Fate system.
IMPORTANT:
If you choose to level via Threads of Fate, all Shadowlands storyline quests will automatically be completed for that character. Because of this,
Threads of Fate is a PERMANENT choice
- Once you choose to level via Threads of Fate, you will not be able to level via the Shadowlands storyline on that character anymore.
Activating Threads of Fate Midway Through Leveling
If you first chose to level in Shadowlands by repeating the storyline and then change your mind, you are able to activate the Threads of Fate system by going back to
命运撰写师罗-塔尔
in Oribos. The Fatescriber will be located in the Outer Ring, on the eastern end of Oribos.
Again, remember that once you activate Threads of Fate, you can no longer go back to leveling via following the Shadowlands storyline.
Threads of Fate Introduction
Once you activate the Threads of Fate system, you will go through a quick introduction where you will choose a Covenant and what area to strike first.
Choosing a Covenant
Once you activate the Threads of Fate system, Fatescribe Roh-Tahl will give you the quest
再次迎新
, where you will be sent to The Enclave, and then you will choose a Covenant in
天命之选
.
This quest works the exact same way as the level 60 version of choosing a Covenant - You will talk to the ambassadors of each Covenant to learn their basics, and have options to test Covenant abilities on the target dummies near them if you so choose. At the final portion of the quest, you will be asked to choose a Covenant. Once you choose your Covenant and finish this quest, you will automatically learn your chosen Covenant's signature and class spell.
Please be mindful that, although you are now part of a Covenant, you will not be able to start your Covenant Campaign until you reach level 60.
Aiding the Shadowlands
After choosing a Covenant, you will receive the quest
协助暗影界
, where you will select a zone to help first.
This quest is merely a suggestion on where you want to go first - If you wish to change zones, you can simply fly to your chosen zone and you will receive the respective quest to aid the zone:
Bastion:
鼓舞晋升堡垒
Maldraxxus:
鼓舞玛卓克萨斯
Ardenweald:
支援王庭
Revendreth:
增援雷文德斯
You are able to earn objective for this quest by completing World Quests, Side Quests (which will all be highlighted on your minimap), Bonus Objectives, slaying Rare mobs, and killing Dungeon bosses in the zone. Completing objectives within the zone also has a chance to grant you level-appropriate gear, ensuring you are not left behind gear-wise.
Killing rare mobs grants 3% completion per mob.
Completing side quests grants 1% completion if it's a breadcrumb, 3% if a normal quest, and 5% if a group quest.
Completing a world quest grants 4% completion.
Completing a bonus objective grants 7% completion.
Killing dungeon bosses grants 3% completion per boss, and completing dungeon quests grants 10% completion per quest.
Completing the zone relief quest will grant you a massive chunk of experience (close to 1/3rd of a level) and a level-appropriate weapon. You will need to venture through all zones if you want to reach 60 using Threads of Fate.

I'm really quite confused. I hit 60 on my main char, had the option to start Threads on my alt when arriving to Oribos, I leveled normally, hit 60, now the fatescribe isn't giving me any options to skip the rest.

Ok so i chose threads of fate and i immediatly got this new campaign quest where i need to fill the bar in each zone does any1 know if this is mandatory?
because i really want to level by just spamming dungs however i dont want to be "filling up the bar" once im 60 that would be really annoying.
since it gives us the option to "free-level" hopefully that isnt the case but has any1 tried this?

So I selected Threads of Fate, chose my covenant, talked to Tal Inara to start the Support The Court quest, handed it in... and then nothing? No quest with completion bar, no world quest unlocks, nothing. Tried to select the other quests and the same thing happened, and now I have literally no objectives available. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
EDIT: Aha, I figured it out. I had to go back and hit level 50 before anything showed up. Seems awfully silly that you can start Slands at 48 but can't access the meat of Threads of Fate until 50.

It says you can change zones but flying to a new zone doesn't give bonus objectives or a quest for me, do I have to talk to somebody or is this article just wrong?

DEFINITELY consider
BEFORE
choosing Threads of Fate.
Yes, it states it is permanent, but doesn't really clearly explain (imho), that you are FOREVER locked out of the campaign story content (and don't get the Covenant Mount I've been told - not verified though).
My understanding, which was in error, was we could CHOSE to do the campaigns we wanted or bypass them and just do dungeons/world quests. NOT to bad you'll never get to see all that story content on your alt. It's a good choice for people that like to grind or run dungeons, etc., versus quest.
Not very thrilled having selected that on my first alt. I've put in a ticket requesting to have that character reset to pre-Shadowlands as I'll redo the Maw, but not happy that all that story, including your induction into your Covenant is gone
FOREVER
.
I hope Blizzard will reconsider this unforgiving decision. You can start the Campaign and switch to Threads of Fate, but not reverse? Seems an odd decision, imho.
----------------
UPDATE 11/27/20 - IF you put a ticket in regarding this the wait time is 10 DAYS. YES DAYS.

WARNING:
You need to switch to Threads of Fate at level 59.9 if you don't want to finish the Campaign, when you hit 60. If you hit 60, you can NO LONGER choose Threads of Fate on your alt.

I am wondering if I am locked out of getting the achievements for completing the story line for each zone if I decide to skip them. I know I have it on the first character but since it's not an account thing it would say not completed on my alt. Can anyone confirm if you can still get the achievements?

Does anyone know if you can get a mage port to Oribos and select Threads of Fate to bypass the Maw introductory scenario?
Edit - No, it does not. I leveled an alt to 55, never did the intro scenario, got a mage to port me to Oribos, and I did NOT get the quest, even if I manually go to the NPC. Dangit, was really hoping I could skip the intro quest on my alts using this, but I guess not.
Another edit - However, one thing I noticed - it appears the Maw intro quests do NOT scale, so waiting to do it until level 55 on my severely under-geared alts still has some advantages in making it far easier to do.

Threads of Fate can be triggered from
Fatescribe Roh-Tahl
in Oribos. The NPC is located on the platform just behind where you'd find the inn-keeper. I'll note that Threads of Fate does not become available to your alts upon immediately hitting 60 and choosing your covenant (on your first character). You need to go a little bit further until the point where you visit your covenant home-base, and pick up your introduction to Callings (dailies). After this, you'll receive a quest on your alts as soon as you enter Oribos:
The Call of Fate
, giving you the option to activate this alternative leveling method.
In general, I think questing will ultimately provide the faster leveling experience. Depending how fast you reach 59, Threads of Fate can be used to reach the point of choosing a covenant, without having to complete all four zones -- notably allowing you to skip Revendreth (and possibly Ardenweald story-lines).

** EDIT ** From what I've read online, the Covenant Campaign is started like normal at lvl 60 which should include the induction ceremony. Mounts are given at different Renown levels with each faction.

By my experience, you better lvl up till 55-56 with story and then switch to Threads of fate. Not the fastest way to get lvl 60 but the fastest way to get lvl 60 AND skip the 2nd half of the story, that you should finish if you dinged lvl 60 on story mode

For anyone using AAP (Azeroth Auto Pilot) addon to level thru the campaign, it currently sends you on some 'optional' quests, mostly in Ardenweald, that get you almost to 59 when you get the quest to go Revendreth, and I think they (DesMephisto or any of the addon maintainers) should 'cut' some of them.
Most of my friends that use it, including me, are hitting 60 way before ending Revendreth campaign. On my 2nd character I hit 60 without even finishing the 3rd chapter there.

Probably this should be mentioned in the guide.
If you have leveled a fresh alt to lvl 50 you will have a simple problem if you start "Threads of fate" mode right away when you enter Oribos for the first time.
To farm normal dungeons you will need ilvl above 80 (it's a requirement by Blizzard) but your alt will probably have ilvl around 50.
So you will have 2 choices:
1. Buy gear on AH. You might buy a few items here for a cheap price, but usually they cost a lot (1000+g on my server) since craft professions allow to craft only a few items for 50 lvl (for example, only bracers and boots from leather armor). The rest of items are world drop BoEs.
2. Farm gear doing bonus objectives.
To farm gear you will have to complete Bonus objectives. They autoadjust themselves to provide the required gear. For example, at first they might show that they offer money as reward, but a few minutes later they change their rewards to gear for your level and stay like that.
In order to unlock Bonus objectives on all islands you need to get respective aid quests (marked as campaign quests) from faction capitals.
The problem here is that bonus objectives usually take a long time to complete as a single mob kill adds only 1 or 2% to their progress bar + you will be undergeared at first.
Therefore my advice is to gear up via normal campaign quests first, and then switch to Threads of fate and spam dungeons or do other stuff if you like. With the higher ilvl gear it will be much easier.

Currently I'm only doing 2 toons in Shadowlands, my main & a gatherer. All alts are waiting it out until Threads of Fate is unlocked. My main hit lvl 60 yesterday upon just starting in Revendreth. I've quested a little ways into the zone, don't yet have the first Covenant class ability learnt, haven't yet gotten an option to choose a long-term covenant (I assume I have to quest further in the campaign before that option becomes unlocked).
What I need to know is, at what point will Threads of Fate be unlocked for my alts? Should it be unlocked now that I'm 60? Will it be unlocked at the same time that my main gets to choose a long-term Covenant? Or does it happen when I finish the Revendreth campaign questline all the way through?

Be aware if your alt turns into your main you may have to go back to original storyline toon to unlock flying....
For exploration I need Kyrian sanctum but I can not get there.

A minor question I started an alt using thread of fate. Picking Ardenweald covenant played through Ardenweald,Bastion and Revendreth quests offered to me. Hit 60 after completing Revendreth, and never got introduced to Maldraxxus.
If I want to do the quest of Maldraxxus(Campaign not sidequest) where do I start them? Cannot find Baroness Draka ethier as I cannot access seat of Prime.
Where is Baroness Draka's location when using thread of fate? I know where one first meet her using normal campaign but I guess she has a different location now?
Thanks in advance.

Started alt on Threads of Fate and chose a Covenant. However, is there any reason to turn in my anima? I might change my mind about which Covenant by the time I hit 60 and the anima in the reservoir would be wasted. If I have the bank space, would it be best to just save it until I can start my Covenant upgrades?

So when I chose a covenant on my main, I immediately received the lowest tier mount and a back cosmetic for free. On my alt doing threads of fate, even after hitting 60, this never happened. Do you just give up those free items if you do threads of fate?
评论来自
JDLKY
The general wisdom is that bonus objectives are not worth it. But that predisposes that you are doing them as your primary objective, when in fact quite often you will end up doing some of the bonus while working on some other quest. Then before you know it you've got over half of it done. Since you will end up doing the same quests a LOT and since a number of them border on the bonus objectives its not a bad idea to peck away at them, doing some of the easier parts as you level.
Completion bars on bonus objectives do not reset so that you need not be in a hurry to finish.

All my characters alts I'm leveling them with threads of fate.
It depends on the class that is leveling up what I do. For example if I am a healer or tank I play dungeons.
For dps, I mix dungeons with side quests and objective zones.
It happened to me to have a character level 53, and go up to level 60 only with bastion.
In the auction I buy armor to be able to do more dps, endure more as a tank or heal more as a healer.
I buy armor at level 50, at level 54-56 and at level 60. In my realm each item goes between 50 to 100 gold.
The armor that I buy I try to have versatility to be able to endure more. Because that gives me more damage and a little more endurance both in dungeons and in the open world.
Sometimes I also sign up for battlegrounds. By gaining honor I can buy equipment at level 60. The equipment I buy is the one that is very expensive at auction so I get it with honor.
Another thing I do is save all the equipment that is falling and does not serve me for my class. I keep it for my other alts.
This week my idea is to go up 3 alts playing a few hours a day. And in a while have between 15 to 20 characters to level 60.
Greetings.

OK - so I am confused. If you decide to run the Threads of Fate at 50 and choose a covenant do you pick any starting zone and run side quests etc. until you fill the aid quest requirement, then turn in and start another zone? In other words, does it make a difference as far as gear etc, when you turn in the zone aid quest?

What to do with anima objects you collect on character/alts BEFORE they reach Level 60
Note that you can store Anima you happen to gain (from quest rewards, etc.) in the Anima Reservoir in your Covenant Sanctum even before you reach level 60. Right-click on the NPC at the Anima Reservoir and then click on the "Deposit" button and the anima will be stored in the reservoir. I am looking forward to spending some of the anima without having to go out questing in order to do my first upgrade to the transport system.
OFC, the alt I did this on was using the Threads of Fate alternate levelling method where you choose your covenant in Oribos during the early stages of the process.

When I start Threads of Fate, I like to gather all the dungeon quests first, so I can be in LFG while questing. Here's how:
Oribos: pick up the two weekly dungeon quests from the Brokers,
Ta'lan the Antiquary
and
Finder Ta'sul
. They are in the
Brokers' Den
under the Oribos innkeeper. The stairway down to them is in back of the room off to the innkeeper's left (your right if you're facing the innkeeper from inside the Ring of Fates. There are 8 dungeons but only 4 available while leveling, so you may not be able to do either or both of these dungeon quests till you hit 60.
Bastion:
Necrotic Wake: A Paragon's Plight
. No breadcrumb quests for this one, just go to Bastion and grab the quest.
Ardenweald:
Mists of Tirna Scithe: A Warning Silence
. No breadcrumb quests for this one, just go to Ardenweald and grab the quest.
Maldraxxus:
Plaguefall: Knee-Deep In It
. Must do a short quest series that starts with
A Plague on Your House
.
Revendreth:
Halls of Attonement: Your Absolution
. Must do a 12-quest series that starts with
Abuse of Power
. Unlocks
Sinstone
acquisition and The Avowed faction.
Do all those dungeon quests and turn them in. That will get you to level 54-56, depending on whether you have XP boosts or not (
Darkmoon Top Hat
, etc)
Level the rest of the way to 60 by completing
Bolstering Bastion
,
Support the Court
,
Rallying Maldraxxus
, and
Reinforcing Revendreth
. Dungeons, Side Quests, Bonus Objectives, World Quests, and killing rares all contribute. Each of these awards one level of Renown, so they're useful to do to advance your Covenant.

I always use most optimal way of leveling my alts for each expansion. Once I was using missions, other time farming specific mobs, some with dungeons, others using pvp, mining/herb/skinning, killing rares, opening chests, invasions etc. My first rule is I wait for rested xp and I play until it finishes, log off the alt log in the next one and do the same. Once max level I get catch up systems to gear up and then is start doing storyline quests for rep and gold. XP from those quests is given as extra gold (at least that was the case in the past patches/expansions).
Now with Fate of threats there are good opportunities to use unconventional playstyles to level up. From videos, posts and comments there is a confusion on what happens with the storyline quests some say skipped others say completed automatically. This means there are 2 scenarios depending on which is the correct.
If quests are skipped:
Do I get those quests on my character marked as completed? There are scripts to check quests and if you completed them?
Can I do the quests if I use party sync with a friend who is doing story line?
Do I lose any breadcrumb quests that lead to dungeon quests or side quests?
If quests are completed automatically:
Can we redo quests with party sync?
Do we get transmog from quest rewards?
Are there any pets/toys/unique items that I will miss to earn?
For me choosing Threads of Fate has too many unknowns and is not worth it risking it on character that is after completing all quests/collecting collectibles.

I didn't see this mentioned yet, but you can have all four threads-of-fate campaigns active at the same time. I am currently leveling 8 alts in parallel. I opened the first campaign with Tal-Anara in Oribios, go to the quest giver in the target zone to turn it in, and then pick up all the flight / taxi points in that zone. Fly back to Oribos and get the next campaign, and repeat and repeat.
The reason for doing this is with 8 alts with different classes / specs, it can be confusing to remember which toon I am on, and which keys are doing what function. But that is not an issue with quests that use a vehicle were you get a special action-bar (for example "We will make an aspirant of you yet"). All of the toons will get the same action bar and they all do the same activity. With all four zones / campaigns open, it increases the number of such quests that can be completed on a given day. So all of the alts are leveling in parallel. And even if you are not leveling in the same fashion, it still gives you the chance to do any quests that you like in any of the four zones and get credit for them,

From Blizz:
Dragonflight pre-patch
The Threads of Fate option for leveling in Shadowlands will no longer be available as an option for characters who wish to level in Shadowlands using Chromie Time's "The Realms of Death" 10-60.
Any characters who have already chosen Threads of Fate prior to November 15th's prepatch release will be able to finish in Threads of Fate. However, characters who did not choose this option prior to Phase 2 will not have the option to select it. They will be restricted only to the zone-by-zone Covenant campaign for Shadowlands when entering Shadowlands for leveling through "The Realms of Death".
If you have already chosen Threads of Fate, do not choose Chromie Time's Shadowlands - Realms of Death. Stay in the present timeline. If you do switch to Realms of Death while Threads of Fate is active, you will retain most of the features of Threads of Fate, but you will lose access to World Quests until Level 60!

then go to Oribos

if you get to 61 in Shadowlands you won't be able to use ToF anymore

I actually when to Oribos (did first quests) and Bastion (did a few quests) at level 57, then got out, did Chromie time Legion, reached 60, went back to Oribos and he was available with ToF.

There's still a way to get this on your characters that otherwise couldn't. Whether that's because they entered Oibos through the portal or chose to Replay the Storyline and forgot to switch before the pre-patch happened, etc.
You'll need a friend to create an allied race toon (so they can get the quest
暗影国度:冷冽的召唤
|
暗影国度:冷冽的召唤
).
What you need to do is go to the location in Oribos, shown in the map above and wait there.
Once the two things above are completed, have your friend choose Shadowlands for chromie time. This allows them to obtain the quest mentioned above
Then they go to the NPC to skip the Maw intro, which puts them right in Oribos - the same location you are at.
Invite them to your party and enable Party sync. This will stun you in place, just like before, and Fatescribe will approve you providing you with this quest.
Now you're free to skip Shadowland's storyline and continue on like before!

First, your character needs to be at least level 60.
If the quest
Shadowlands: a Chilling Summons
does not pop up for your character, go to
Darion Mograine
and he will have the quest.
Accept the quest, then choose "I have heard this tale before." and
SKIP the Maw
.
When you teleport to Oribos, your screen should fade (like when you're dead) and you'll have to way for the Fatescribe Roh-Tahl to wobble his way over to you.
He will have the quest
The Threads of Fate
.
Accept the quest, tell him you are already to choose your fate, and select
The Threads of Fate
.
You will have to type in
FATE
to accept, complete the quest and now you can choose your Covenant!

If you first chose to level in Shadowlands by repeating the storyline and then change your mind, you are able to activate the Threads of Fate system by going back to Fatescribe Roh-Tahl in Oribos.
This simply isn't true. Sorry. I didn't choose to level in shadowlands, am 64 and he only has some crap about Purpose in his dialogue box

After looking around wowhead and reading plenty of comments, I compiled a step by step guide to get
命运丝线
Take the toon you're looking to get
命运丝线
on (we'll call them "A") and take them to the portal room of your main city.
Roll an allied race character of the same faction as "A" using a starter account, or have a friend make one. We'll call this toon "B"
Don't group up just yet.
"B" goes to Chromie and picks Shadowlands.
"B" will get the quest
暗影国度:冷冽的召唤
/
暗影国度:冷冽的召唤
from Mograine, talk to Nazgrim/Whitemane and pick "I've heard this story before."
"B" will be ported to Oribos & recieve
人生地不熟
. Ignore it.
"B" now invites "A" to a group and starts party sync.
"A" then goes to Oribos via portal. On arrival, Roh-Tahl should approach and offer
命运丝线
Keep in mind, you might have to do the Shadowland campaign and received the achievement
天命之选
at least once in order to do this.

In 2024
:
You MUST be
lvl 60
for your alts to have access to
命运丝线
.
If you are under it,
it will not be available
, meaning you won't be phazed and asked to choose when reaching Oribos.
If you already went to Oribos by being under lvl 60, do your leveling outside Shadowlands and come back
at lvl 60
(
not 61
!). You will be able to talk to
命运撰写师罗-塔尔
, location 78.6-49.0.

As a person that started Shadowlands when it came out before quitting for a couple years, this is no longer available if you weren't around to use it pre-Dragonflight. I can get the quest to start Threads of Fate, but it doesn't do anything. New players and returning players are just screwed.
