Varimathras is a single phase encounter in which the raid needs to kill the boss before the strict enrage timer. The fight revolves around the idea of minimizing the shadow damage you take through group coordination to avoid gaining the devastating healing reduction debuff known as
哀难
.
Varimathras is the eighth or ninth boss in Antorus, the Burning Throne; available December 5th on Mythic difficulty. Varimathras is available after defeating
Kin'garoth
.

Mythic Quick Tips
Overview
– Varimathras uses the darkness of his cell to stalk his prey, attacking them with
.
Damage Dealers

Mythic Difficulty
Mythic Varimathras only has a few mechanical changes when compared to Heroic mode. The majority of the fight will play out similarly to Heroic, aside from the changes listed below. Each time Varimathras casts
黑暗独行
or

, he will summon a shadow copy of himself via Shadow of Varimathras.
This shadow copy is an add that you can attack and kill. The add does not need to be tanked and will remain at the location of the player who triggered the
黑暗独行
or
被标记的猎物
cast.
This add will cast is
毁灭回响
.
This is a debuff on a player which will expire after 3.5 seconds.
When this occurs, a pool of goo will spawn underneath this players location.
The goo deals large ticking shadow damage to anyone who stands within it, and the pool is permanent.
Having a
毁灭回响
cast go through is likely to cause a wipe, as the encounter on mythic relies on precise positioning from all players. This positioning will be severely disrupted if a pool goes down. Fortunately the adds have a low health pool and can be killed before the cast completes.
All DPS should save a hard hitting damaging ability and switch to the add each time it spawns. Doing so is not difficult as the add spawn times are very predictable if you are following the strategy listed below.
To minimize the amount of adds the raid needs to deal with, the raid needs to trigger as few
黑暗独行
casts as possible.
To do so is difficult as Varimathras will now apply two
冥魂之拥
debuffs out each cast, rather than one.
This would cause two adds to spawn, as both players need to move 10 yards away from anyone else to stop the
冥魂之拥
from spreading, which would trigger a
黑暗独行
and add spawn on each player.
Having two adds spawn simultaneously is likely to wipe the raid, as one of the adds will almost certainly get a
毁灭回响
cast off.
To prevent two adds from spawning at the same time, you want to bounce both debuffs to a single third player. This player will then allow their 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
to drop whilst only spawning a single add.
To achieve this goal you want to use three tanks. Two tanks will continue to do their standard heroic roles, whilst this third tank will be used for soaking up the 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
and disposing of it safely.
Ideally, this third tank should be a mobile class with good magic damage reduction options, such as a Vengeance Demon Hunter or Protection Warrior, however any tank can do this job.
Disposing of the 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
This is a delicate series of steps that needs to be followed closely. Any deviation from these steps by a playing during an attempt will likely cause an additional add to spawn via
黑暗独行
or they will spread the
冥魂之拥
to the rest of the group.
Before the pull the raid leader should set up two markers on either side of the boss for the raid to move between each time a
黑暗裂隙
s spawn. This will also help keep players grouped up and away from the rest of the group.
Three additional markers should also be placed in a straight line behind the raid. All three of these markers need to be 11+ yards away from the other two stack point markers.
The markers should consist of a single central marker of any colour, with a green and purple marker on either side. The colour of the markers are important as boss mod addons will place purple or green markers on the players with the
冥魂之拥
.
The green and purple marker should be at least 11+ yard away from one another, whilst being within 8 yards of the central marker.
Using the range radar feature built into boss mods can be a useful way of placing these markers precisely.
When the 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
are applied to the randomly selected players, those players and the third tank should all move to the central marker. Whilst traveling they must remain within 8 yards of each other to prevent the
黑暗独行
from triggering.
Once they reach the central marker, the
冥魂之拥
afflicted players should move to the marker they have been assigned via the boss mod, either a green triangle or a purple diamond. The 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
will then both expire and spread to the tank. Immediately the two players should return to the group whilst remaining within 8 yards of each other.
The single tank with 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
should move to the unoccupied raid stack point marker and proc
黑暗独行
which spawns an add. The tank should then travel quickly away from the group to drop the 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
whilst allowing melee DPS to safely switch to the new add.
Once the 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
have expired on the tank, he should then use his movement to once again stack with the rest of the raid.
The tank must return back to the group quickly, as they run the risk of triggering a second
黑暗独行
if they don't move fast enough.
The reason this strategy can work is
黑暗独行
will not trigger on the same person twice within 5-7 seconds. The tank uses this window to safely drop the 2 stacks of
冥魂之拥
away from the group.
When running this strategy, healers must keep the two
冥魂之拥
targets as well as the third tank healthy throughout the movement.
Discipline Priests are particularly strong at this role as they are able to spam
意志洞悉
into the targets to keep them alive, even when they are immune to standard healing via
哀难
.
