How to Play Survival Hunter in Dragonflight
Survival Hunter is a melee DPS spec that, at its core, focuses on a dynamic rhythm of fighting alongside your pet as you manage your Focus. You'll use a variety of tools to generate your Focus (both passively and actively) and spend it, ensuring a proper balance to make sure you aren't wasting any cooldowns or Focus. The main concept of your spec is managing your

ability and thus, your Focus to have the resources to use your abilities—primarily through efficient usage of

. You also have

's cooldown to pay attention to as well as keeping

active on your targets.
Survival Hunter Differences from Shadowlands
While the general kit of Survival Hunter in Dragonflight is very similar to the Shadowlands iteration, there are a few major differences.
With the new talent tree system, we have far less conflicting talents than we used to, as well as talents picked out of necessity, balancing, or convenience. For example, in Dragonflight, we can now take
利矛之刃
AND
猫鼬撕咬
. This opening up of
猫鼬撕咬
changes the entire single target priority of the spec, shifting the design space to mostly focus on
猫鼬撕咬
and its associated
猫鼬之怒
buff. This moves Survival to a much more intensive Focus and cooldown management priority system. Additionally, we are able to take
屠戮
and
游击战术
at the same time now, which has never happened since our re-rework in BfA! This is quite exciting as the old

hit like a wet-noodle flavored LaCroix and
屠戮
is a fan favorite ability from Legion, so many are happy to see it usable.
As mentioned above, with the new talent trees also brings a host of new abilities with moderate to short cooldowns you'll slot into your current priority system. Things like

provide extra damage and Focus generation.

exists as a new way to help Hunter scale with secondary stats as well!
With the removal of the 9.2 Tierset bonus (
疯狂掷弹兵
/

), (and the

from BfA and Shadowlands)
野火炸弹
has taken more of a backseat position in both our damage breakdown and priority. Many were tired of the degenerate loop the 9.2 tier set brought, but that came at a cost of being wildly overpowered. This is another key difference as we are back in the corner of being a regularly tuned melee DPS without any Raid utility that's applicable other than common crowd control.
Survival has also received two new cooldowns:
锐矛之锋
is a single-target focused cooldown whereas
协同进攻
has been reworked to be a more AoE focused cooldown. Both of these also include further enhancing talents, which some say is far more interesting than our old flat damage % buff cooldown.
How Strong is Survival Hunter in Dragonflight
All in all, our strength in Dragonflight is very flexible—we have distinct builds that can lean towards AoE or single-target. Most of our spec currently (and considering our future tier-set) focuses on single-target damage with
猫鼬撕咬
and
锐矛之锋
providing us a high amounts of sustained single target damage that can help with priority targets. However, even when building for AoE or cleave with a
协同进攻
focused build, we still use
猫鼬撕咬
and many talents to support
猫鼬撕咬
, which means we no longer have to sacrifice ST to perform in AoE which has been the case in previous tiers.
If we're strictly speaking about our damage output, it is fairly average. This it isn't the worst, but our utility is mostly centered around mob control, which isn't always a useful form of utility to bring to all types of content, such as Raid encounters. For this reason we are still much reliant on tuning, perhaps even more so than other classes. so here's hoping!
Survival Hunter Viability in Dragonflight
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, we are very reliant on tuning. We're a melee DPS without any sort of mandatory utility or unique raid buff/debuff. Even with the buff to our defensives with baseline

and an accessible

, we are still a bit lacking in defensives, so it can be hard to justify bringing a Survival Hunter if they're not dealing out ridiculous damage.
At the end of the day, you're a melee DPS without any sort of necessary raid utility in an expansion where other classes got new tools. We are very much reliant on tuning to be viable.

For Dragonflight, your main priority is to maintain your Focus levels to properly use

Best Stats for Survival Hunter in Dragonflight
As always, it's best to sim your character for the most specific and optimal results, but general your stat priority for single target or low target AoE is as follows:
