If you are a CC class and there is only one other person at Gurubashi Arena you can easily CC them and take the chest as the chest has a fairly quick opening time.

If you're on a server in which lots of 60+ people go to Gurubashi every 3 hours then it would be smart to bring a group of friends who are willing to let you take it.

There are generally less people at the arena (sometimes even none) late night/early morning.

So we had an... interesting fight the other day, some 8 players fighting persistently for about 10-12 minutes. Then all of a sudden the chest despawned and everyone wondered who had won.

Never heard about a despawn time on that thing. Can someone confirm this?

well i don't know about despawning, however im a rogue, and i was stelathed next to the arena, and a lvl 80 mage was looking at people away from me as if to challenge them, and i walked up behind him in stealth and opened the chest, afterwars making a hasty retreat

If you are a twink and want to access the arena without an escort, I think the easiest way is as follows:

Horde: Orgimmar to Grom'Gol; jump off zep early and swim to coast near the arena. 4-5 Raptors will mob you, but then Spirit Rez at the arena and you're done.

Alliance: Assuming you have no FPs of use, die on purpose near Stormwind. Run, as a ghost, down the western coast of the continent until you reach the Arena. Go to the Spirit Healer on the east side. If you rez with her, you'll be teleported back to Stormwind, so log out first. The game doesn't record where your Spirit Healer was after you log back in. Now rez, and you're at the Arena.

Edit: I should mention that I HAVE managed to reach the arena without an escort on a 19 hunter twink. Swim from BB or GG to just west of the arena, run ashore with the raptors on you. Use your pet to pull as many as you can off, and run to an inside corner on the exterior arena wall. This evade bugs the raptors. You can find similar corners all the way around the south end, then jump through the last trees/hills to reach the ramp on the east side.

I just ninjad the chest there were 2 40s druids there I'm a 52 mage, they killed me once cause they kept running away and healing eachother I tried poly too late and got killed but then I ressed polyed one the other was fighting someone else and got the achievement :D. They started QQing in /w they said I got owned and stuff I said lol but I still got the trinket, my gear sucks and sometimes I get only 4fps and that's why they beat me the first time :D. I did it at 3am server time.

when i first entered the arena it was empty. then another player entered, we dueled, i won and then after that the chest appeared.

That would make sense, since my understand is that the chest goes to who wins the fight.. if there IS no fight, then there would be no reward. Can anyone confirm this? I walked in one time, but not when it was FIght time and it still did the PVP sword Icon.

As of 3.3, this achievement recognizes historical activity (so if you ever go this in the past, it'll now give you credit for the achievement). Sadly, the Arena Grand Master achievement hasn't received the same change.

This might seem like a no-brainer, but make sure you shift+right click when you open the chest. The chest contained more than just the trinket for me, and because I hadn't shift+right clicked, I had to click on each item to loot it. I luckily did this late at night, so there were only three other players in the arena, but I can see how not doing this simple thing might cost someone the achievement.

First time i went for this on my 80 shammy was the last time i went for this, I went in, seemed no one was there, i was alone up until the chest was placed, then out of no where this Relentless geared DK with Shadowmourne shows up (first time i've ever seen Shadowmourne in action) , thoroughly pwns me twice b4 taking trinket lol

Just got this as a level 59 Draenei Death Knight, next to a level 80 Troll Hunter and a level 80 Troll Rogue. They distracted each other long enough for me to take the trinket.

I just recently tried to go for the trinket on my warrior and it appears that the graveyard spawns you literally right outside the arena now as opposed to by Booty Bay where it used to. This makes it incredibly annoying to open the chest. Really bad change.

To all you naive Achievement Gatherers out there and the sorts, please do not take this to heart. Anybody worth his grain of salt will bring a PvP trinket of some sorts to this type of situation if they're just as serious as you about getting this achievement, and Humans have Every Man for Himself.

So while using a Crowd Control ability to obtain this is possible, it's very unlikely.

If anyone wants to see what it is like to fight in the great arena, here is a video I uploaded:

Note:
The great arena is quite unique. It is one of the only places in the game where you can kill or be killed by any faction
(Alliance vs Alliance, Horde vs Horde, and of course the normal Alliance vs Horde). These faction neutral world pvp rules apply in this arena
all the time too, its not just when the chest is out. All you have to do is step into the arena and your faction neutral world pvp is turned on.
This means you can use anything you could during normal game play, potions, engineering items, bandages, food (when out of combat long enough),
and whatever; all with their normal cooldowns (as opposed to rated arena matches that don’t allow engineering items, potions, etc).

If you go to the arena there are several possible scenarios, here are most of them:
1. nobody else showed up, so you can loot the chest for yourself
2. 1 other person showed up that is lower level, they will usually just wait for you to loot the chest and might go in if you leave anything in it
3. 1 other person showed up at or around your level, so you can fight it out to see who gets the chest
4. 1 other person showed up that is higher level; the decision to fight them depends how much higher level, gear, and class
5. 2 higher levels show up, you wait for them to fight it out, and try to loot the chest while they are busy
6. 2 higher levels show up, you wait for them to fight it out, and hopefully the survivor's health is low enough you can kill them and get the chest.*
7. 2 higher levels show up, they have decided not to fight it out and to just take the loot and kill anybody else.**
8. 3 higher levels show up, to kill or distract other players while 1 level 19 twink loots the chest.***
9. 3 or more players fight in teams (1 vs 2, 2 vs 2, 2 vs 3, etc)
10. 3 or more players show up to fight it out independently.

* This actually happened back during the burning crusades when a level 70 undead warlock and a level 70 bloodelf warrior fought it out,
the warlock won and then proceeded to "eat" the fallen player to get his health back. I was there with my level 60 pvp rogue (all the best level 60 pvp gear)
and I quickly (stealth & sprint) snuck up from behind (sneaking up from directly behind a player gives the greatest possible chance of your stealth not being compromised even by higher level players in addition the sprint gives them less time to react in case they do detect you from the time they detect you to the time you can stun them) and stun locked him and was able to take his health from about 30% down to zero. Back then the closest graveyard was all the way down at the entrance to booty bay (now there is one right next to the arena), so I had plenty of time to go over to chest and loot it before either of them got back.

** This happend when I showed up with my level 10 horde hunter. There were 2 level 70 horde Death Knights. I asked if could have the trinket.
They said “sure”, then killed me as I opened the chest. One of them said “sorry, he didn’t mean to, come back you can have it”.
Not trusting them, but still wanting the trinket I went back one more time and of course same thing. I then said “have mercy I am just a low level”.
They laughed, let me have the trinket, and shortly after that, one of them asked about my hunter, then a couple days later made one with the same gear
and joined my guild and we fought together in the level 10-19 battleground together for quite a while. We also had other people ask about our
hunter's gear and by the time we stopped running the level 10-19 battleground we had 4 hunters with identical gear. Also, I never bothered
to go back to the arena to get any more trinkets for the hunter, with a twink hunter the trinket was not needed to do well in the bg.

*** I saw this happen. During burning crusades 3 level 70s helped a level 19 warrior (all from same guild) loot the chest.
I later came up against him in the level 19 wsg battleground and he was tough but was still able to kill him with my level 19 warlock.

Just so there is no confusion about the starting time, I would suggest coming about five minutes ahead of time. Short John Mithril will start the event anywhere between 120 seconds before the scheduled start of the event (which is 12 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM, 9 PM and so on) to 120 seconds after the event is scheduled to start. CCs will give you a few seconds to make it towards the chest, but the best ones to use are fears and polymorphs considering the entire action bar goes translucent when in effect. The trinket also drops a quest along with the achievement Gurubashi Arena Master. The quest has you bring it back to Short John Mithril and he will begin a repeatable quest that (blue question mark) that requires you to bring him 12 Arena Master Trinkets.
On my server: Gilneas... the majority of players are mostly high-end players levels ranging from 60 - 85, so Gurubashi and the majority of Stranglethorn are deserted. This makes getting the trinket real easy. Especially if you are early... However, for players whose servers are crowded with lower level toons, it is a good idea to get there at least five minutes early as I stated before and then start making your way to the center of the arena floor so you can get the chest almost as quickly as he spawns it.
REMINDER: You do not have to click on Short John Mithril to begin the event... just on the chest. And, above all, have fun... it's great PvP practice.

I was doing Archeology in Stranglethorn this morning, so I just popped into the arena to see if the chest was there. It was 7:03 am and it was there so I looted it. I set my timer and came back at 9:45 am and waited until 10:10 am and the chest never showed up. If its on the timer of 6 am, 9 am, 12 am, then why was it there at 7:03 and why didn't it show up at 10 am? :( Can anyone explain this too me?

I looted the chest tonight at around 3am MST. It was just sitting there in the middle as I was arriving to do the daily. Looted it and took the Arena Master quest and go the achievement. Piece of cake. Looks like there are no bugs in my realm (Destromath). Maybe being a night "owl" helped. lol

Definitely was in the southern stranglethorn area tonight at 2:55am server time. I waited in the arena until 3:05am server time without him showing up. Seems fishy!

I just attempted this with a friend along for help and we were phased from each other. I couldn't see the emotes, NPC, chest, or other players at all but he could. The only difference I can think of is the new ZG questline. I'm on the last quest but my friend hasn't even started it.

I attempted this 6 pm servertime, and nothing appeared.

I read wowhead to find a solution, and read the comment about having a zg quest.

I went to booty bay and delievered Bwenba's spirit and removed the ZG stone quest.

Then I returned - was still phased. I relogged - and the chest + npcs were there - noone else around, and I looted my trinket.

if u doing the arena tokens and you are on the spirit of mwamba quest chain you cannot see the gurubashi daily quest guy Stone Guard Twohide or the arena battlemaster :) so they cannot be done untill you do so.

remember depending on if you have daylight savings etc the time may change on the spawn

Right, I'm in an average population server, I'm level 85 and got this achievement 3 days before getting the one for 12 trinkets, the gurubashi arena grand master.

Basically, I didn't do anything else but checking every 3 hours, did like 5-6 checks every day.

As for bugs, max the npc yells sometimes at 6.01, sometimes at 6.02, I didn't really notice any timer bugs.

As for levels, in my server there are mainly horde players (my faction) that look for this, and it happened me to find:

1) 2 level 85s who fought each other, and in that case nothing to do because I don't have pvp gear, I suck at pvp, and so there was no way I could take advantage of the fight.

2) 2 level 85s who agreed about letting one of them have the trinket.

3) 1 level 85 priest helping a level 19 rogue twink get it, and he had sick pvp gear and could defeat me + an 85 hunter at the same time and let his level 19 friend loot it.

4) 1 level 85 hunter with 290 item level, easy fight even for me.

5) Some low level players, mostly level 20 twinks, but even 75\80 sometimes, no way they could do anything normally.

6) Empty arena.

I didn't find level 85 players too often, but still if you try to loot it as 20 you'll probably come across some level 70-75 (which may try because they don't see any 85s in the middle of the night) and would still be hard.

Best times to try are for sure 3-6 a.m., even midnight doesn't seem bad.

Once I checked after 10 mins at these hours, and the trinket was still there.

If you're level 20 you should really get one 85 to help you, otherwise you might find one unguarded, but not 12 (for the arena grand master).

Now that I completed the achievement (even the grand master) when I still come across the arena I try to help lower level characters, of course, or to watch the battles: in 3 full days of searching there was only an interesting (like 3-4 mins) level 85 battle!

Edit: another thing: tonight at 3 a.m. I was checking like always and found out that after 9 minutes the chest disappeared. I had already looted everything but the trinket, so here may be the deal: if you don't loot anything it stays there forever or at least for 3 hours, till it gets replaced by the following one; if you loot the other stuff it disappears way faster.

After talking to a Game Master regarding the chest not spawning at given hours, he confirmed for me that it still do spawn. But if you for instance is phased out in some other quests in the zone you wont be able to see the chest or /yell from npc.

For me i was on the two quest Bwemba's Spirit and To Bambala in the zone. Game Master said, either disband those two or complete the chain in order to be phased to the right zone would solve my issue.

Thought id share this with the community that is currently confused on "why cant i see the chest" :)

If anyone's wondering if there is a macro for accepting the litle popup window to loot the trinket, here it is: /click StaticPopup1Button1

Basicly what it does is that it accepts any kind of such popups, for example party invites, accept loots (as in this case) etc.

Just earlier today there was an incident where I was fighting a 19 shaman and killed him after he had opened the chest. Luckily for me he didn't have a macro and therefor has to accept the popup manually which he didn't had time to before he died.
PS. Another thing that came quite as a shock to me at last: Mind Flay does NOT interrupt anyone whos opening the chest. So to all shadowpriests out there: Be careful when trying to kill those who's opening the chest and don't use more than two mindflays in a row.

Short John Mithril will normally do his call-out at 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00 server time. However, because of the fact that the Gurubashi Arena Booty Run is set every three hours instead of at certain times (the server does not check the time, it simply counts out 3 hours), during Daylight Savings Time, the chest will not spawn at the normal time, but either an hour later or an hour earlier than usual, until the following Tuesday when maintenance is performed and servers are restarted.

My girlfriend and I, (Both level 33 Enhancement Shamans), Won the battle between a lvl 24 Human Paladin and 54 Tauren Druid last night. I must say, this is the most exhilarating world PvP I've had for a long while. I love these additions to the game such as these.

I experienced a recent bug when attempting for the grandmaster version of this achievement. I have been checking the chest about every 3 hours for a few days (when I'm free of course).

I arrived today for the 6PM spawn (and watched the spawn) to find that after John Mithril laid the chest out and I looted it I only received a few potions and a random green rather than the usual trinket. I had been the only one there with no combat or even hint of another player. Kind of annoying since this would have been trinket number 4, but it's not heavily farmed on my server so back again I go.

I will update if I run into this same bug again, but I guess don't be alarmed if you don't get the trinket since it seems it is possible the chest may be missing it.

Cross-server realms have made this interesting. I attempted this on Gilneas at 0900 server time and about 10 players showed up, all from other realms.

As of today (10/26/1012, Patch 5.0.5) I waited around to open the chest, no one was around, and at 6 P.M. server the chest never spawned. Waited 15 min, still no chest. I got there 20 minutes early so I know I didn't miss it. Can someone confirm it's still available?

I love this place.
Back in Vanilla my druid could never get it cause there's always a brunch of well-geared 60's fighting there for fun.
Even worse considering that i was in a pvp intense server.
6 years later i finally get to loot it while i was herbing around on my 86 (already my highest!) druid. Killed a 87 horde, 20 rogue, 19 mage to get my lovely trinket-which is now restricted to lvl 35 apparently. Just in time to flight formed away from a 90 hunter.
Blizz oughta to give this place a weekly bonus chest with 5k or so gold, make it even more exciting.
At least the audience seat won't be empty.
Screw 3v3, Gurubashi Arena is the best.

Walked in to day on my 22 rogue, the chest was just sitting there.. all alone.. so i just walked up and looted it. Point is, it still spawns. (noting a post where the poster was wondering if it did)

1: Hop hop hop around during very late at nights.
2: Cherish the moment, because chest will be there waiting just for you, when you finally get into a low pop server without any competition at all.

This post is in part to vent my frustration and also to tell you what you may need to do to win.

I've been trying to get this trinket for the past three weeks and every time I had to deal with at least 3 people cooperating with each other for it.

Basically if you want this, you're going to need to come with some friends.

It doesn't matter how skilled you are or how much effort you put into acquiring gear. You will need to come at 12AM or 3 AM to avoid these ridiculous cooperatives or come with a group of your own.

After years of going back and forth, not really spending the time to try and get the 竞技场大师饰物 trinket, I finally went for it. The thing is, the quest to complete this now require lvl 30, instead of 1! Therefore, I can't complete the final quest to achieve my 竞技场大师饰物 trinket! Ffs! I'm fking pissed off right now for not being able to get this achievement done and get the trinket on my lvl 10.... I'm really disappointed at Blizzard for removing this item from low levels.

Lots of stealth druids that un-stealth and press convoke right away. If you can manage to kick convoke in time you should be fine. Post convoke 9/10 of these druids don't know what to do and can't PVP. Goodluck!

Just wanted to let everyone know that if you don't loot everything in the chest and only take your Arena Master Trinket then someone else can loot the chest and take one as well. So if you see other people from your faction going for the chest invite them and take turns looting so you can all get Arena Grandmaster!

I saw the last comment about the looting thing. Turns out you don't even have to be a group or even the same faction. I did it last night and this morning in a group, but I saw a few Horde hovering outside the arena and decided to leave the potion in side to see if it worked. They swooped in to stop me from looting but I already finished the channeling and just left the arena with the potion still in the chest. I saw the Horde rogue able to try to loot the chest and the two Horde players fought over it for a bit.
