Intriguing, I wonder if there are any plans to replace the sharding system in retail wow with this new layering technology.
I feel like this is going to be WAY better than sharding. REALLY hyped.
"However, this technology also separates players and creates awkward phasing situations where players or NPCs suddenly vanish from your screen." I wondered why this happened for so long. I now have my answer.
This is better than sharding but not much better. I hope they disable it for RP realms at least as its a complete detriment to the experience. With this layering system, you may never get to see a group of people because you ended up on different "layers", so while it solves some issues, there's still the biggest issue there.
Please replace sharding with layering on retail, cause sharding fn chucks.
Don't forget everyone's favourite phasing issue; Vanishing resource nodes the moment you're within 10 yards of them!
So its the same as phasing but not cross realm and not adaptive.... They really just came up with a fancy name for it. That said as long as its only used at the very beginning I'm okay with it.
Classic wow is like an onion. It has layers.
The video is not working properly.
can we do this on live?
When I first started Vanilla in mid 2005, I remember having a terrible time with the first quest to kill Kobolds. I must have hit level 4 by pure grinding before I realized the exact name of the mob mattered. I was killing the harder, higher level Kobolds because everyone else kept killing the level 1 versions I actually needed to finish that quest. All I was seeing of those guys was corpses, but they all looked so much alike that I didn't notice there was a difference. I remember wondering what kind of weird bug I'd found that my kills weren't registering lol.I'm glad they have a solution that is not full phasing/sharding to deal with that problem. I'm sure the first few weeks will be bonkers regardless, but this should help a great deal!
